Gabriel GonzagaIt appears that the UFC and Brandon Vera have not been able to work out their contract negotiations, and Tim Sylvia’s next defense of his Heavyweight title will be against Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 68. Many people expected Brandon Vera to have the next title shot as he is easily the #1 heavyweight contender, but it looks like a contract agreement hasn’t been reached.

Gabriel Gonzaga defeated Carmelo Marrero by armbar at UFC 66 and in post-fight interviews, Gonzaga confirmed that he had been offered a title shot against Tim Sylvia at UFC 66.

THIS IS ANOTHER JOKE U HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME…. TIM SYLVIA IS THE BIGGEST BABY IN THIS SPORT HE PROBABLY DIDNT AGREE TO THIS FIGHT CUZ HE IS SCARED OF LOSING MAN I WANT THIS FAT ORGE TO LOSE HIS BELT I WANT ANDREI TO SMASH HIM AGAIN OR CRO COP TO KICK HIS HEAD IN HE IS SUCH A FLOATER!!!!!!

  2. Mightymaxx says:

This should still be competitive. I think Sylvia will come out the victor, but he will deffinately need to be ready for this fight.

Patrick, turn off the caps lock.

  3. richard says:

i hope tim wins this not cuz i like him but cuz i want to see cro crop knock him out

  4. devin says:

Damn that really sucks ***!!!!!!!!!!! not only cuz of sylvia not
gonna get out striked and ko’ed by vera but because vera isnt gonna
stay with the ufc!!!!! He has one fight remaining on his contract and they should through him in the octegon with cro cop and let him get his head kicked off!!!!!!!

….. One more thing, dont sleep on gabrial gonzaga he is very unknown and underated!!!!!!!!!!

  5. sam says:

Tim sylvia sucks and always goes to decision

  6. MAD says:

Sylvia knows his days are numbered. Crocop has arrived and the belt will be his by years end. I don’t see anyone in the HW division that can stop him. Arvlowski has the best shot right now, and maybe Herring in the near future but Tim no way. Tim will take a few baseball bat left leg kicks like Yoshida and not be able to walk. Vera is making a mistake by not staying with the UFC. He may get a little bigger contract now but if things don’t unfold like Showtime expects the UFC may end up buying Elite also. With the explosion the UFC is going through it doesn’t make sense to jump ship when your up for a title shot and have a very good chance of winning. This may be a choice Vera will live to regret. The UFC is bringing in the best guys out there and I don’t see Elite being able to compete on the same level. Fedor signed an extension with Pride so their still going to be the #2 promotion in the world. I was hoping Dana could work his magic and get Fedor but I guess we can’t have everything.

  7. richard says:

u know if i was dana white and one of my biggest stars didnt want to sign with me i would put him in the cage with someone that i knew would probably kick his *** like a cro crop or maybe arlovski a kind of if i cant have him then nobody can who wants to give a guy a big contract if he just got his *** kicked oh and im talking about vera

  8. Stevo says:

I’m a little late on this one, but this is why the UFC should give Mirko Cro Cop the next shot at Sylvia. Gabriel Gonzaga????? and now Randy Couture coming out of retirement????? Although letting Cro Cop build a Reputation in the UFC with the fans who don’t know him will build the excitement for his shot at the title later this summer. If it’s Sylvia vs Cro Cop…… Good night Tim….

  9. Ian says:

I love Crocop,…….and I’m hoping he tears through the UFC heavyweight division,………but don’t forget,….the rules in Pride and UFC are way different,…….and the possibility of getting mashed up against that cage with no escape is very dangerous in the UFC octagon if you are used to a ring. I hope for the best with Crocop,….’cause he’s a dope fighter,……..but he’s a blue-belt on the ground at best. I absolutely HATE Tim Sylvia,…….he IS a floater,….and IS boring as all get out,………..but 300 lbs of dipshit driving you into the cage is no joke.

,……….But,……..hopefully Mirko will get one of those feet up high enough to kick his stupid face in.

  10. Jayme says:

Its seems everyone agrees that Tim Sylvia sucks.

I wonder is Randy Couture made up his mind to come back to the UFC before word hit that Cro Cop is now in the mix. When you look at the UFC HW’s, besides Cro Cop, your chances as a good retired fighter being competitive are pretty good. No that Cro Cop’s here, maybe the HW division is not the best place to find yourself if your past your prime and get that Rocky itch. Any thoughts on a possible rematch between Rampage and Liddell? I know Rampage is UP and Down performance wise but he worked Liddell like a sparring partner last time they went toe to toe. Might be a good addition in the LHW’s as Im sure your all getting sick of Chuck beating Ortiz, again!!! need some new blood worth spilling.

  11. bvrasp says:

no, not everyone agrees that Tim Sylvia sucks.. though im tired of saying why.. lets just say, hes the champ.

  12. Jayme says:

Does anyone have anything to say about the quality of fighters coming out of the reality series. I know they make for popular fights(?) and are given plenty of promotion so just wanted to hear from anyone else what they think?!? Good or Bad.

  13. PATRICK says:

JAYME WORD UP IM THE PRESIDENT OF THE TIM SYLVIA SUCKS FAN CLUB

  14. Dennis says:

Hey BVRASP, I’m with you man. Not that I love Tim, but he IS the heavyweight champion!!!

Besides that, none of these chumps would have the balls to say that to his face.

  15. MAD says:

Diego has champion potential coming from the TUF series. Rashad has obviously had good outings the last couple of fights. Jardine has started to get some respect after KO’ing Griffin. Stevenson may be a couple of fights from a title shot in the light weight division. Even Florian gave an admirable effort against sherk. Swick is still undefeted and has had some impressive wins. Leben has had some decent wins and always comes to scrap and be entertaining. Forest was on a roll for a while till Keith derailed him. Looking back there are quite a few fighters from the show that have earned their respect as true mixed martial artists and shed the “reality show” image. I think Diego Sanchez is the best example of someone that was on the show but no one questions his ability anymore. Overall TUF show has brought some good talent to the UFC and gave the sport huge mainstream exposure. Because of this the UFC has gained new fans and respect as a true sport that we as long time fans knew all along. It’s good because the extra revenue that the PPV’s and sponsers gererate enables the UFC to keep signing guys like Crocop and Rampage. I think this is why the UFC is the premier promotion now, they have adapted to the market and grew the sport and gave it the respect worldwide that it deserves.

  16. bvrasp says:

yea, i think the reality show fighters would have fought in the UFC regardless of TUF. Like dana said, they researched and scouted the best upcoming fighters they could find, while some of them fell short for different reasons, you can never predict how a fighter will mature. The reality show was just a way for them to get more exposure for MMA and they hit a homerun!

Theyre on the level man, good example was season 4, fighters we already knew and respected, sacrificing and getting a taste of reality TV first hand. Even the comeback guys said they have alot more respect for the earlier show guys, its a serious ordeal. Personally im was really happy when these shows came out, just more MMA and MMA related programming for me to watch. I would probably watch anything once it relates to MMA lol

  17. Jayme says:

    Dennis,

I am sure Tim Sylvia could kick my *** but that’s not the point.

As the HW champion (not for long — will put money on it) for UFC, he partly represents the credibility of the UFC, or even MMA’s in general as being filled with legit, talented athletes.

As the UFC is so well promoted and is usually most North Americans first glimpse into the MMA world, its important that the “Champions are just that, Champions”

You look at any other League .. Example — Pride FC with their HW Champion, Fedor. In fact, you need to look no further than the current boxing HW Champions to see that these guys are all world class fighters with talent but more importantly bring excitement to their respective sports.

That’s right, it’s actually important to have guys that not only win, but become spectacles. The longer the UFC lets Tim Sylvia remain HW Champ by not searching out some talented HW’s the more ridiculous they look to the public. Do you really think people are going to be content to watch that lethargic jackass stumble around, slipping and falling over himself – it’s shameful for the sport!—and there’s no need for it

  18. PATRICK says:

ARLOVSKI WAS A BAD @SS CHAMPION

  19. MMAKansas says:

Jayme, I agree. I am enjoying watching the UFC transition from a limited group of less than great fighters to the elite and foremost in MMA.
I really am curious to see how Couture fairs against Sylvia, I really can’t give him a huge advantage because he has gone past the 40 mark and he is fighting a guy with a reach like a condor. To take Sylvia down, you have to get past his long reach, and Arlovski wasn’t able to get that done, it took Monson 4 rounds to finally get a take down and then he couldn’t do anything with Tim. What can Randy do that Arlovski couldn’t I wonder.
Someone either tell me I am wrong with good reason, or admit I am right regardless of what you think about frankenstein, (sylvia).

  20. MAD says:

Tim will probably get by Randy because of his reach and jabs. Randy’s not that great at submissions he primarily relies on a ground and pound attack. I think this is a bad idea for Randy but the only other choice for him to return would have been to fight Chuck again and he realized that is futile. If Tim gets past Randy which he should Crocop will be waiting. Mirko has no intention on trying to take Tim down. I think after a few leg and body kicks we’ll see Tim trying to take Crocop down out of fear. Either Tim will buckle from leg kicks or he will have to drop his defence to try and block them and open himself up for the deadly left high kick. Either way Tim better come up with some kind of stratagy because his fighting style will not work against Mirko. I can’t wait to see him lose his title he may just cry like Forest which will be funny.
