The rumor mill is running wild right now, as there is wide speculation that UFC Hall-of-Famer Randy Couture will be coming out of retirement to fight current UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Syliva at UFC 68 in Columbus, Ohio.
Couture is set to make an appearance on “Inside the UFC” this Thursday night on SpikeTV, and is supposed to be making a “big announcement.”
We had previously reported that Tim Syliva would be fighting Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 68, but now it appears that Randy will be moving to Heavyweight and fighting Sylvia.
I’m not sure how I feel about Randy coming back to fight in the Heavyweight division. I’d love to have Randy back, and no one wants to see him fight Chuck Liddell for a fourth time, so I guess this makes sense. I just hope Randy doesn’t lose to Tim.

hes to sloppy now for chuck and i need him to knock out a couple more people to say hes ready for chuck but the guy has heart so anything thing can happen
Yeah he is type sloppy. I think he is awkward, just like Chuck…which might make things interesting. Who would you say are the top 5 light heavy contender right now? ummm…I would say
1)Bisping
2)Rashad Evans (based on upcoming fight night)
3) Jardine
4)Forrest?
man…going through the 205 pounders is empty… there is not 1 legitimate light heavy contender in the UFC. I didn’t realize what a weak division it is.
Rampage should make the list. Again awaiting the outcome of his fight with Marvin. True though, Chuck hasn’t had a real threat to his title for a while. I thought Babalu would have done better but Chuck’s proved twice he’s the better man so it remains to be seen.
amir i look at ur list and i laugh at the competition that the ufc has for liddel the only real opponent i see for chuck is maybe a big maybe rashad evans hes another beast but bisbing will try to strike and get knocked out so will jardine and forrest and forrest this last ppv showed how good he really is so y hes on ur list is crazy oh and the one person who is going to beat chuck u didnt even add LONG LIVES RAMPAGE
I guess I failed to state that I was only considering guys who have been around the UFC for a while. Of course, Rampage should be on it…but did not want to be too hasty. I’m sure that if the UFC wanted to, they could bring in some real competition from Pride immediately, but I was trying to be more realistic…lol.
To gain some perspective here, it’s pathetic that Tito should technically still be high on my “imaginary” list. What would you guys think of (Tito vs. Bisping)? keep in mind the bad blood between them from TUF. Bisping was always jealous and pissed about Tito giving Matt Hamill so much attention. Now that I think about it, I really do not see where this thing with Tito can go. He’s already beaten Forrest, which I doubt anyone would want to see again. So that would hypothetically only leave Tito/Jardine…or Tito/Evans…which would lead to what? Tito/Liddell 3? give me a break. What do you guys think is the way for the UFC to go here?
I think Jardin vs Bisping would be interesting. They both like to stand up and trade and are improving tremendously. Tito is going to find himself with not to many options left at light heavy. Tito against Rampage could be a good fight although I don’t think he would win. I think the best option is after Crocop KO’s Tim he can take the route of Randy and drop to light heavy and win both titles.
Do you think this upcoming Fight Night will really make a huge impact on the division? I don’t. To me, Rashad Evans is pretty one-dimensional and boring. I’m actually getting sick of these college football jocks in the UFC.
yes i think tito should drop down to 185 and he might have a chance but anderson silva is about as deadly as chuck so maybe not but im going to play devils advocate and say that tim has the tools to beat cro crop its just that he doesnt use them im no tim fan but he is 6’8 oh and for him dropping to 205 from what i hear he has trouble sometimes making 265
I don’t think it will make much of a difference either. Rashad has gotten better training with Greg down in Albuquerque but he is still not good enough to fight Chuck any time soon. The fight I’m looking forward to is Herring and O’Brien. This should be a good fight. Jake is good but I think Herring has a huge experience factor that he will not be able to deal with. Rashad’s last performance was pretty good and his conditioning seems to be getting better but he is still not at the top of the light heavy food chain even in the UFC. The UFC needs to bring in guys like Arona and Rua who have a legitamate chance at beating Chuck. I still think the only one that will give him a battle is Quinton. Then theres the Silva debate all over again. I was on the UFC site and it has a question and answer session with Dana and he says he’s still trying to make this fight happen in ’07. I hope it does because every MMA fan would love to see this and put all the speculation to rest finally.
I was refering to Crocop dropping to 205 not Tim. Mirko is only 218 so it wouldn’t be that difficult for him.I don’t think Tim’s jabs will be enough to keep him out of harms way. I see Crocop hammering him with leg kicks untill he either drops or lowers his defence and takes a left high kick and gets knocked out. Tim is big but Mirko landed his LHK on Fedor’s brother Aleksander who is 6’4″ and put him out.
Sylvia lost to Arlovski at UFC 61, 3 rounds to 2 he should not be champion still.
Randy will win on points by octagen control.
Light heavy weight potential matches in 6- 12 months
Tito v Evans/Bisping
Rampage v Jardine/Forrest
winner will lose to Liddel.
Cro Cop will defeat Randy and will fight Liddel at 205 to unify the belts.
If any of this happens wake me up as i do not want to miss any of it!!
I think that Spike is going to replay the “Pros vs. Joes” with Randy whopping some azz….tonight!
Hey Patrick, look where the Pitbull is this week….LOL
HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION (over 205 pounds)
#1 Heavyweight Fighter in the World: Fedor Emelianenko
2. Mirko Cro Cop
3. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
4. Josh Barnett
5. Randy Couture
6. Tim Sylvia
7. Andrei Arlovski
8. Fabricio Werdum
9. Aleksander Emelianenko
10. Mark Hunt
DAMM DENNIS THAT SUCKS…. HEY THEY PUT HIM IN FRONT OF FABRICIO LOL???
I think the best facts are recorded on UFC.com:
“There have been ten Heavyweight Champions crowned in the UFC. One, Randy Couture, won the title three times;
Tim Sylvia has won the belt twice.
Among the other title holders, five champions (Coleman, Bas Rutten, Josh Barnett, Ricco Rodriguez, Frank Mir) never successfully defended the belt,
with Mo Smith (1), Kevin Randleman (1), and Andrei Arlovski (2) defending their titles, but not for an extended period of time.”
Randy is indeed………….a legend in his own time.
Oh, and by the way, Randy is also a two-time LHW champion, defended his title once technically (he won the interim title by being one of the few to ever beat Chuck, and then beat Ortiz for the full title)”
This is a legend….
THATS AGREED DENNIS
