Renato “Babalu” Sobral will make his return to the UFC after his brutal loss to Chuck Liddell at UFC 62 back in August of 2006. According to UFC.com, Sobral will face Jason Lambert on the undercard of UFC 68 in March.
Before losing his title shot against Chuck Liddell, Sobral had reeled off an impressive 10-fight win streak, and many thought he would pose a serious challenge to Liddell. Well, many (as well as myself) were wrong.
Sobral’s opponent, Jason “The Punisher” Lambert is currently 3-1 in the UFC (22-6 overall) with his last fight coming in a loss to Rashad Evans at UFC 63. Lambert should bring an interesting mix into the fight against Babalu and it will be interesting to see how Babalu bounces back and begins his climb back up the UFC Light Heavyweight ranks.

Gotta go with Babalu!
Hey Dr. J.
I just noticed that you picked Babalu to beat Chuck! hahahah.
Babalu will win this one pretty easily. If you can’t beat Rashad you shuldn’t be put up against a much better fighter in Sobral. I know Babalu has had some set backs to Chuck but he is still one of the best light heavies out there. I watched him fight here in Colorado a couple of years ago in a turnament like the UFC started as. He beat three guys in the same night and he faced Ron Waterman in the finals and took him out quick. That was pretty impressive so I have a lot of respect for him.
MY TOP 5 LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS: He is on of the best light heavyweights, but like Dr. J said; it will be interesting to see how he bounces back from his lose to Liddell. Babbalu is in the top 4 in that division. I’d put the light heavyweights in this order:
1. Liddell
2. Ortiz
3. Rampage
4. Sobral
T5. Jardine
T5. Griffin
(I put Jardine and Griffin tied even though Jardine won the fight. I like Griffin in a rematch. And as far as I’m concerned Randy Couture is a heavyweight now.)
I’d put Babalu above Tito & Rampage!!
i think babolou had a good chance against chuck but he didnt respect chucks punching power and for me knowing how good he is he looked like an amauter that night
If Rashad Evans wins his upcoming fight against Sean Salmon, I think he should be ranked 5th in UFC light heavyweight division. He’s 4-0 in the UFC, he is a wrestling monster and his ground and pound game is getting better and better. Sam Hoger, Stephan Bonnar, and Jason Lambert couldn’t submit him and I don’t remember seeing Brad Imes (a tall guy) taking him down. If he wins his next fight, he should be next in line to fight Tito Ortiz and I still think he’s going to win.
Guess everyone knows…RAMPAGE WON’T Be Fighting NEXT MONTH!!!!!!!!!!
Whoops! I MENT KEVIN RANDLEMAN IS HURT. NOT rampage. Sorry people.
i thought that randleman was suspended for steriods
I think Sobral will take out Jason Lambert easily. I really want to see Tito and Sobral fight, theres been some word exchanges bettween those two, and it would be a pretty sick match up.
Babalu will have a short night against Lambert. Lambert got distroyed, against a decent Rashad Evans, so it is known that he isn’t Babalu caliber. I would like to see Babalu fight either, Evans, Ortiz, or Rampage after this fight. I think he needs to go to the drawing board for a possible rematch with Liddell, he’s 0-2, but he needs to find a way to mix it up against Chuck and keep him guessing. It will be interesting to see that, if there is a rematch.
matt i think if he wouldnt of come at liddel like he did he might of had a chance but a rampage babalou fight would be nice
Babalu will submit either of the hypesters……easily.
hypesters dont put rampage in the same cateogory as tito he would kill tito and babalou how is rampage hype remember hillbilly he kicked liddels azz so is liddel hype
@Patrick
Don’t see any major upsets for 68.
I think that the big four, (Tim, Matt, Ace, Babalu) will do exactly what we pay them to do……….win, and win BIG!
This stack up looks pretty realistic to me….
LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION (205-pound limit)
#1 Light Heavyweight Fighter in the World: Chuck Liddell
2. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua
3. Ricardo Arona
4. Dan Henderson
5. Wanderlei Silva
6. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
7. Renato “Babalu” Sobral
8. Quinton Jackson
9. Tito Ortiz
10. Kazuhiro Nakamura

Silva’s stock dropped pretty bad after that fight. Rua should get the fight with Chuck at this point.
Looks like my dream fights are coming closer to reality….

@Amir,
If I was setting up the matches instead of Joe Silva….
I like ICEMAN vs. Shogun better
Henderson vs. Tito
Randy vs. Rampage
Wandaleer vs. Babalu

Of course the Randy vs. Rampage thing totally depends on Dana after Tim knocks him out.
Oh, and I’d like to see Hollywood smash the face of Anderson Silva, like he did wandaliar.
YO DENNIS WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT I WANT TO SEE YOU SMASH SILVA UP LOL THAT BOY CAN STRIKE VERY IMPRESSIVE FIGHTER IS ANDERSON SILVA.
@Patrick
You are right my friend….. no argument there.
Dan is also an impressive striker, proved by knocking out wandaleer.
But in the end……Dan hits harder!
Lambert is no punk…just look at his record.
He dropped babalu just as easily as Chuck did. Does babalu have no chin or is Lambert’s stand-up getting better now that he’s training full-time?
The Punisher has paid his dues and has the experience to go far.
Lambert definately jumped up a few rungs with this one…..
Cudos to Jason.
