Nick DiazMan, it seems like there is quite a bit of Nick Diaz news recently. First Diaz’s title fight against Thomas Denny in the Gracie Fighting Championships gets “postponed;” next, Diaz signs a deal with the newly formed Elite XC promotion to fight in May.

Now, Nick Diaz has signed a two-fight deal with Pride Fighting Championships and will make his Pride debut on February 24, when Pride holds their second event in Las Vegas.

Diaz’s opponent has not been officially named yet, but Pride has announced the both Takanori Gomi and Hayato Sakurai will both be fighting on the same card and either could be a possible opponent. Diaz will be fighting in Pride’s lightweight division which has a weight limit of 160-pounds instead of the “usual” 155-pounds that the UFC uses in their lightweight division. To this point in his career, Diaz has only fought in the 170-pound division.

its good to see diaz doing this i alway say “no substitute for experience” and thats what he will gain if nothing else.

  2. Brian says:

Pride is smart. When they come to America, they sign a few fighters that most (everyone) American MMA fans know.

That will be good for Nick. I’m glad to see him at lightweight. He should do good in that division. I don’t know about him fighting Gomi. I bet he fights the other guy.

diaz is a animal so far hes taken some of the best all the way even though hes lost i actually would like him to go against gomi i actually think he might have a chance and if he goes against sakuri from what i read hes ranked pretty high in the lightwieght division to so go diaz

  4. R.J. St.Croix says:

both gomi and sakuri are very good light weights ranked #1 and #2 if i’m not mistaken so for diaz to even get the opp to fight ether one looks very good on him

  5. Amir says:

Diaz vs. Gomi would be such an exciting fight.

  6. John Crockett says:

I think Nick Diaz will be a threat in the lightweight division. Nick Diaz is a submission fighter with knockout power, a strong chin, and an above average conditioning. Most of his losses are by decisions from top ranked fighters. His height and long reach are what makes him a dangerous fighter in the lightweight division. Improvement on combination punches, kicks, his speed and his takedown defense will make him an elite lightweight fighter.

its official check the pride fc web site

diaz vs. gomi its on. it should be a good card too!

    silva vs. henderson
    gomi vs. diaz
    nakamura vs. wiuff
    sakurai vs. danzig
    misaki vs. trigg
some of you may not know most of these fighters but trust me when i say if you got $40 to blow this p.p.v. will be worth it!

  8. MAD says:

Trigg’s actually going to fight. He has only fought once in Pride and it was way back at Pride 8. This should be another good card for Pride to bring to the US. I still think they should have given Silva Arona or Rua though. I know Rua doesn’t want to fight him because they are in the same training camp but that would be a good fight.

  9. J. Crockett says:

According to mmaweekly.com, Sean Sherk is ranked 10th in lightweight division and Gomi is the #1 lightweight in the world and I totally agree since Sherk only fought once in the lightweight division. Here is a tough one for all Gomi fans; Sean Sherk took down Diaz easily. Will the top rank lightweight walk through Diaz easily?

  10. richard says:

all diazs losses in the ufc were by decision diaz is a tough kid to stop so i think that he will give gomi a run for his money and it should be a real good fight
