This past week, news came out that Chuck Liddell would make his next title defense at UFC 71, but who his opponent would be was unknown.
When Quinton Jackson’s WFA contract was purchased by the UFC, we knew that Jackson was signed through July for two fights. Jackson and his manager have insisted that they would not fight Chuck Liddell during either of those fights and that they wanted at least two warmup fights before a title match against Liddell.
Well, it appears that the UFC must have loosened the wallet somewhat and made an enticing offer for Jackson to fight Liddell before his contract is up. The current word circulating is that Liddell vs. Jackson will take place this May at UFC 71. Of course, no official UFC announcement has been made, but several reliable sources are confirming that this fight has been verbally agreed to by both camps.
Most fans were wondering what was next for Chuck after his easy defeat of Renato Sobral and Tito Ortiz. It was widely assumed that Forest Griffin would get the next title shot, but his loss to Keith Jardine derailed those plans for the UFC. Rashad Evans and Keith Jardine were both possibilites for Liddell’s next opponent, but personally I don’t believe either of those fighters is ready for a title shot; and I have a feeling that Joe Silva, the UFC matchmaker, feels the same way.
Let’s hope that Jackson is ready for this title shot, and he is free of the “nerves” and ring-rust we saw in his UFC debut against Marvin Eastman.

You gotta let it go man. Liddell is not getting a title shot any time soon. He’s 0-2 with 2 bad KOs vs. Rampage. Listen to Dana White post ufc71 and Chuck has at least 2 major fights to get there with the first being Wanderlie Silva then maybe Shogun? That’s a HUGE mountain to climb.

I watched Henderson fight a lot and he’s a GREAT fighter but at 205 lbs he has to be flawless. Rampage is too BIG, too STRONG, and too QUICK to get caught with a punch or submitted. At 185 yeah he’s top dog but at 205 he’s not even in the top 5. Henderson has trouble with bigger opponents but he does fight with determination and passion.

im 6’1 6’2 on a good day about 405 lbs all gut ,i actually mentioned how much of a beast henderson was a while back i think he was number one on my 185lb list next to kang i think i just think hendo is underated on how small he is the guy has a chin has bricks in his fists and is an awesome wrestler that fights with no fear he takes on everyone ive recently was on the “nuts”of rampage but when i heard he was fighting hendo no way im not saying rampage cant im just saying its gonna be an old fashion pride fight straight up warriors first match in a long time that i respect both fighters and really anyone can win

i dont understand how all you guys are so quick to count out liddell. He has gone back to training. He won 7 fights in a row by knockout. He got caught by a lucky punch. He didnt get beat down he got hit with a lucky shot. HAd the fight gone on chuck would have won. Dont count him out. Hes an awesome fighter who will come back. He will beat Wandy.

had the fight gone on and chuck would have kept stepping in and back jackson would have probably gotten frustrated. After all it only took a minute for him to raise both hands in frustration against liddell. As he stepped in frustration chuck would have done his counterpunch magic and knocked him out eventually.

came at the worst time for him. Rampage admitted that before his debut in 2001 vs. Sakuraba, Pride officials offered him a cash bonus to take a dive against the Japanese legend. Of course, Rampage beat Saku into oblivion, but knowing his desire for money, I wonder if that happened other times in his career where he might have agreed to the dive…(ex. against Wandi or Shogun)hmmmm…

I am the biggest Rampage fan and have actually spoken to him about his loses (not the best idea cause he got visibly upset).
1. vs. Sakuraba: Rampage was offered a huge amount of money for the fight but they made sure he was going to lose. Not only did he take the fight with less than 1 month training, he was told to lose 25lbs in 2 weeks. He had no stamina (he calls it conditioning) but still managed to power bomb sak over 5 times before getting arm barred.
2. vs Wanderlei 1: He was having a huge fight with his then fiance and didn’t sleep for 2 days. He claims he was in the best shape of his life but Wandy was focused and unloaded on him in the 2nd round.
3. vs Shogun: Ramp beat his bro Ninja by split decision and really felt he lost the fight. Again, without training he took on Shogun and had 4 ribs broken by the chute boxing golden boy’s knee. He fought for 5 more minutes but shogun kneed the crap out of the broken ribs and Ramp slumped in a corner with a collapsed lung.
4. vs. Wandy 2: Ramp fought Wandy at the top of Silva’s storied career and was ko’d. No excuses…Wandy would have beat the sh*t out of anyone that night “including King f-ing Kong.”
Now that MMAK is smiling (haha) let it be known that he was being trained by a Muy Thai guy and not Juanito (boxing trainer). Rampages game is much improved and his condition is ridiculous.

Did you watch the fight??? Have you seen the 2003 Pride fight with Rampage destroying Chuck??? As far as I’m concerned Big John McCarthy saved the Iceman from serious punishment.
Rampage was hammer fisting him side mount. He was about to drop the elbows and then the knees. Chuck couldn’t block the hammer shots to his dome…He would’ve been knocked into next year.
Liddell should take on Coutoure for the Heavy Weight Title and then immediately retire because anyone else in that division would kill him. If he took on Fedor I believe the match would be under 2 minutes with Chuck getting submitted by armbar.

he did get a thumb in the eye during his second fight, jermy horn, he landed many good leg kicks and punches during their second fight proving chuck is a bad defensive stricker, however, jh has no power, and should go down to middle wieght, look at his body at 205, also his chin was overrated, tio was the only one with a chin and he was scared of lydell

I also think Henderson is good and an animal, but Rampage is naturally bigger than him, a much better wrestler and a better boxer. I know people are gonna start saying that Hendo beat the hell outta Wandi, who has won twice against Rampage, but that does not proof anything. Every fight and every fighter is different. We all know well that it could go either. I do not discredit Hendo, but Mr. Rampage is really really hungry right now, and I don’t think he’s playing around.
