Frank MirUFCJunkie.com is reporting that Frank Mir will once again fight in the UFC at UFC Fight Night 9 against Antoni Hardonk. Since returning to the UFC in February of 2006, Mir lost his first fight back to Marcio Cruz, barely defeated Dan Christison, and was KO’d by Brandon Vera at UFC 65.

For those who have been long-time MMA HQ readers, you know I used to be a big fan of Frank Mir, but after his fight at UFC 61 against Christison, I swore off my allegience to Frank Mir. I assume most fans, including myself, figured that Frank Mir’s career in the UFC was finished after his loss to Brandon Vera, but apparently the UFC is still in dire need of heavyweights and they are bringing Frank Mir back.

Mir’s opponent, Antoni Hardonk defeated Sherman Pendergarst at UFC 65 in his UFC debut.

So, if anyone really cares, Frank Mir is back and its uncertain at this time if his fight at UFN 9 will be televised or not.

    HEY DR J …. WHEN IN THE NEXT UFN… SCHEDULED FOR WHAT DAY?

  2. Dr J says:

    @PATRICK,

    the next UFC is scheduled for April 5th at The Palms in Las Vegas.

    Frank Mir needs to hang it up before he becomes the Gerry Cooney of MMA fighting. His cardio is gone, he gasses and bleeds so easily now. It’s sad that he’s a shell of the man he used to be. Probably one of the best HW submission artists ever.

    Dr J, me, and almost everyone else are tired of waiting for guys like Mir or Loiseau to bounce back… really i hope Mir loses…

    Im more interested in the Joe Stevenson vs Melvin Guillard fight, what can you say about that one?? everyone knows the facts, joes a monster on the ground, melvins a beast on the feet. Anything can happen in this one people! its gonna be an exciting fight!! neither of these guys can lose this fight, the title shot depends on it..

    Striker vs grappler, grappler usually has the edge, but i dunno man, melvin could catch him, and it only takes one punch to end the fight.

    see this is why i hate the ufc somtimes mir has lost two matches in the ufc and isnt out yet but buentello loses one match and hes out crazyness bvrasp on stevenson vs guillard guillard is a wrestler but i doubt if as good as stevenson but i think that he is as strong as stevenson strength wise and joe also likes to test the waters in standing in his fights so if he tests these waters he might drown or in other words if he tries to stand with melvin hes getting knocked out my pick stevenson

  6. bvrasp says:

    yea richard, i know melvins got a good ground game, but its not good enough to even compare to joes. Joe might like to swing sometimes, but nothing compared to melvin. Theyre both great fighters, i would also pick Joe on this one, but its gonna be a good fight.

    I can only hope that if I ever have an accident and have a broken femur and crushed pelvis, my family and friends wont leave me in the dust and write me off just because I am a little slow to recover. Give Frank a break, he went thru he!!. It’s like Ben Roethlisberger had an accident and a bad season, you dont just fire the kid, even when he has several bad games, you let him get his rhythm back and you watch him rise out of the ashes. Mir will get better and better, (his cardio will improve, he was on a couch for about a year barely able to walk) and when he starts tapping everyone again, who will be on the bandwagon then. All the fair weather fans who were on for the ride in the beginning.

    YOYOYO GUYS… DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT WEIGHT CLASS KURT ANGLE MIGHT BE IN IF HE COMES TO ELITEXC OR UFC

  10. R.J. St.Croix says:

    @patrick
    kurt angle would be a heavy weight. i know most of you guys here have no respect for pro wrestlers but i dont see angle as a fake and he is a very accomplished wrestler. olympic golds with a broken neck, yeah i think he’s probably a tough guy. i think he would do well in mma because he an awesome wrestler (and i dont mean “pro” wrestler) and he’s very aggressive. some muay thai and boxing training would make angle a force in mma. also for the pro wrestling fans i read that brock lesner has been working with the miletich camp and the gracies.i would also like to see this beast of a man test him self in a mma ring. one last thing i want to add is i have NO proof to back up ether of these men fighting in mma ever! so dont try to prove me wrong or ask for proof. these are rumors and rumors only! just wishful thinking from an old wrestling (not “pro”wrestling) fan.

  11. Amir says:

    I think many of these guys (pro wrestlers) have something to prove to themselves because they know they are not really respected but when they come into a real fight (ex. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Kimo) and get a few punches to the face, they realize right away what they just got into and get destroyed.

  12. MMAKansas says:

    @Amir
    Very well put Amir. Good post.

  13. Jeremy says:

    I believe Kurt Angle’s gold medal is a fraud if you watch his wrestling match at the olympics you see what I mean, he wins because the other guy is Iranian and they just didn’t want to give him the medal!

    Second of all, Kurt has no training in MMA, Dana White recently admitted that he spoke to Kurt suggesting an MMA debut if he agree to about a year training with Couture and some other guys, which is an awesome opprotunity (I’d jump all over something like that if it were me) But Kurt refused and went to TNA instead.

    Second, I used to love watching Mir’s fights, and I’m still rooting for him most of the time, and I’d like to say to the morons who said, “oh I hope he loses, bluh bluh”, he doesn’t owe you anything you idiot, and he’s certainly doing his best. There’s no shame in losing to Brandon Vera who’s ranked 13 in the whole world. I hope he comes back ready to fight, and I hope UFC broadcast it.

  14. Dennis says:

    LOL, Dana also said flat out, that Kurt is……….”FULL OF SHET”…
