The Nevada State Athletic Commission handed down rulings today and have suspended three fighters including Thiago Alves and Kevin Randleman.
Thiago Alves last fought at UFC 66 when he defeated Tony DeSouza by KO in the 2nd round. After the fight, Alves tested positive for the diuretic Spironolactone. Today the NSAC suspended Alves for 8 months and fined him $5,500. It’s a tough blow for Alves who is now 4-2 in the UFC with losses only to Jon Fitch and Spencer Fisher. Thiago was started to climb pretty high in the welterweight division, and this suspension is definitely a huge setback in his young career.
Also, Kevin Randleman was suspended indefinitely by the NSAC and fined $5,000 for allegedly providing a fake urine sample after his fight on October 21 in Pride FC. Randleman’s urinalysis was void of any human hormones, and providing a fake urine sample if viewed just as serious as testing positive for any drugs. Randleman will be eligible to appear before the NSAC board in October of this year and provide evidence that he is healthy before he will be reinstated.
The third fighter, Aaron Carvalho tested positive for marijuana after a Tuff-N-Uff card on December 29 and was suspended for 6 months.

In regards to the MMA fighters that are knowingly spiking their supplements with illegal substances or steroids are just trash. They need to get fined much more and suspended much longer. I do believe there is a small minority of fighters, who aren’t aware of what they are taking, they probably think the supplement is legal because it is purchase legally and they get “caught”. At any rate, there is a major problem in the MMA world with banned substances, it really reflects poorly on the sport itself.

Yeah, I know, it’s like you hear about them taking a urine test after the fight, but that makes no sense to me. They do that junk a lot, and not just in MMA.

that really sucks! like MMAKansas says this looks bad on the sport. i dont really think Aaron Carvalho should have gotten punished for smoking pot because it doesnt help you win fights if anything it can hurt your performance. marijuana is a downer and i dont know about anyone else but i would want to be pumped up and razor sharp for a fight not stoned and hungry lol

Was it ever really a surprise to anybody? I think it’s pretty obvious to see which guys were and are on steroids. I saw some list on a website that listed some big time names in the MMA community who had tested positive. Everyone from Vitor to Stephon Bonnar, yes, Stephon Bonnar. I wonder what Dana has to say about this cause he doesn’t tolerate a lot of sh*t, yet, it doesn’t seem like much is being done. We do not need Dana to become another Vince McMahon, peddling stuff to his stars.

when you leave a comment you need to use the same email address that you used when you created your gravatar account. The gravatar is tied to that specific email address. So, whatever email address you used the create your gravatar account, use that same email address when you leave a comment.

haha i can’t believe this gravatar thing has become such a “hit”. It may simply be because I am cacheing the gravatar images where so that the pages load faster. (Some posts have 200+ comments and loading all those images everytime would take forever.) Wait a bit and see if it shows up tomorrow. If not, I can clear out the cache and see if that fixes it.

The UFC announced on their website that Brad Imes will be the next one to face Heath Herring at UFC 69 in Texas. Herring better show something this time around because his last performance was pretty terrible. Brad seems to like to stand and trade so maybe it will make for a more exciting matchup. I don’t think either of these guys has a chance at the title but hopefully they put up an entertaining show.

Should be a good show. Shogun and Overeem should be a good fight. Their last fight was pretty good Overeem was doing pretty well untill it got to the ground. Seeing Trigg back in action should be entertaining, I’m glad they gave him a good matchup. Dan is really good but the size difference will be to much for him to deal with. He did put up an admirable fight against Nogueira so you never know. Hope Diaz KO’s Gomi in his Pride debut, either way this should be a great fight. Overall looks like a good card with some interesting matchups.

i will agree with most of the predictions that everyone is calling. but one fight i think will go different is gomi vs. diaz. i dont know if you are all counting out gomi because you dont know enough about him or you if you just like diaz’s chances. for those that dont know about gomi look him up, he is a very good fighter and the pride light weight champ and mmaweekly places him at #1 light weight world. no matter what happens i hope to see a war between these two warriors but after the smoke clears i think we will see some sad diaz fans, myself included. i really like both of these fighters but gomi is #1 for a reason.

I don’t know if anyone here subscribes to MMAweekly but they have an interview with Dana White that is hilarious. If you not a member they still have a small chunk you can listen to for free. I have never heard of a president of any company especially as large as the UFC cuss so much. He talks about the Pride purchase rumors and Vera amoung other things. Dana doesn’t pull any punches that’s for sure. The guy cracks me up gotta love the UFC just for having someone like him in charge.

im not going to sit here and say your wrong about joe riggs and bj penn but i just want to know why you say they suck? i dont like to say that anyone suck because these dudes are fighting at a pro level and it IS hard to compete at that level. these men work very hard to be the best and some of them go to the top and some dont but i think they all deserve respect from us the arm chair warriors who spend our time watching them do there thing. i will say that i have lost a lot of respect and the will to want to watch tim sylvia fight. i do have good reason to not be impressed with sylvia look at how he has been fighting lately and i always go back to the steroid thing. i really have a problem with the fighters who cheat! and taking steroids is cheating. if you slip up and break the rules (bad elbow, hold the ropes/cage) that is one thing but you dont take steroids by accident.
p.s. im not trying to pick on you richard its just the last few comments you made i disagreed with.
