As much as I hate to give the following news, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has revealed that Nick Diaz tested positive for a banned substance following Pride 33: The Second Coming last month. Diaz did not test positive for sterioids or diuretics, but rather marijuana.
Nick Diaz will have the opportunity to appear before the NSAC to defend himself, but is most likely going to face at least a six month suspension by the commission. Nevada has historically put athletes on a six month suspension for testing positive for marijuana.
If Diaz is suspended for six months it may not actually affect him from fighting due to the fact that he suffered a broken orbital bone during the fight with Takanori Gomi. Diaz is currently under contract to Pride FC and EliteXC and neither organization has released a statement on Diaz’s future yet.

Not really a shocker. Weed isn’t exactly a performance enhancing drug anyway. Not role model behavior, but not that big of a deal.
Yea it sucks to hear that, but big deal. I don’t smoke weed, pot, whatever you care to call it, but like Maxx said “It aint performace inhansing”.
This shouldn’t take away from his victory. If it would have been roids, I would have called FOUL! But weed?? Nah, he won the fight. Serve your sentace and go on Nick. You beat one of Pride’s best…
Even though this weed thing isn’t such a big deal, I can’t believe how many of these guys have been getting caught lately. It’s just absurd to me. These guys train so hard and try to make a living out of it and then disrupt their momentum by these crazy suspensions, on top of the injuries that usually sideline them for months at a time. Definitely not to take anything away from Diaz, he did fight great…just wish he’d use his brain a little more, I mean the guy just beat one of the world’s best, the only place to go from here is back to the top. I wonder how someone recovers from such an injury, especially as a fighter…that’s in a very dangerous spot, and it’s only gonna get hit more in other fights.
I agree with all of you. No big deal. NFL players are always getting busted for weed and the same with NBA players as well. We’re all human, including MMA fighters.
OH MY GOD!!!! some body smoked some pot! call the F.B.I. and the D.E.A. and mall security. this man needs to be locked up for life!!! i case you cant tell i’m joking. whats next alcohol ban maybe we should not allow fighter to eat sugar because they might get too hyper and beat someone up. its a joke! its lame because anyone who has ever smoked weed befor will tell you the last thing they want to do after is go fight. it doesnt help you at all. and befor you all jump on me about why its banned i know why, because it slows down your reactions and you could get hurt. that is if you smoke it just befor you go and fight and i truly doubt diaz smoked a big fat blunt mins. befor he stepped in to fight gomi. it can take up to 39 days for THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) to work its way out of your system. chances are diaz probably smoked some weed weeks befor and didnt even think it would be a problem.

I don’t care if these guys smoke either. I used to smoke and train at the same time a few years ago and believe me it does not help. Considering these guys are making a living doing this they should keep clean for their financial gains. Diaz will be back after the suspension he needs to heal anyway. Hope these guys don’t ruin their their careers by getting caught more. I agree if it was roids it would be a different story but weed doesn’t do anything benificial for you so who cares.
I’m not a fan of Nick Diaz. However being that I’m against drug prohibition, I think the punishment here does not fit the crime.
Theres a good chance that it could be 2nd hand smoke in his system, from the parties or watever. Any way you slice it, its unfair, like everyone already said, its not performance enhancing..

i remember you saying befor that you are some kind of political figure and i was just wondering at what level? its really awesome to see someone who watches mma and dont worry about people who smoke pot may someday have a position to really change things. in the case of marijuana i’m not telling anyone that they should smoke it i’m just saying dont rag on people who do…..its not that bad do a little research you’ll find its not even as bad for you as booze and there has been way less problems with people ruining there’s and other’s lives over weed as opposed to other things (booze, crack, heroin) so you dont have to like pot or the people who smoke it but keep it to your self. you have the right to choose weather you smoke it or not and you also have the right to choose to hang out with people who smoke it or not.
i know this is a bit off topic but is anyone else ready to see shirk defend the light weight title? it really sucks that the light weight title has only seen two fights. injurys suck!!!

Gatties, are you with the green party? hehe, yea RJ i agree 100%. Stevenson vs Guillard should be an awesome fight man!! the winners getting a title shot for sure, sherk is a beast at that weight, but so is Joe and Melvin is amazing at that weight too!
I’m not a big “Big Daddy” fan, just another boring-*** wrestler. Melvin has some powerful hands though. I would like to see Melvin and Sherk much more than Stevenson Sherk. Sherk is another one of these guys with a tree trunk for a neck, very hard to knock out by hands.

nick diaz faught his azz off that night and took the hardest shot gomi could give him and it dropped him but didnt ko him and for me this fight was just awesome so i cant wait for diaz to come back and get the title this time .and melvin is a animal but can get a little to much over excited and that can lead to him making mistakes

i think guillard vs. shirk could be a very close fight. but then again i dont know i want to see a few more of guillard’s fights because even though he has fought quite a bit i have not seen many of his fights at all. all i really have to go on is his four ufc fight (and from those he seems like a good fighter) so i cant really say because i dont know enough about him. yes you read that right there IS a fighter i dont know every little stupid detail about lol. i read a lot and i love mma so most of the time i know a lot crap about a lot of fighters but there is still one or two out there i’m not sure of lol. one fighter i really want to see take a run at the ufc light weight title is a kid from right here in my home town of london, ontario named mark hominick (he’s a team tompkins boy) some of you might know of him he has fought in the ufc twice. he can put you to sleep or make you tap and he’s very fun to watch.
Uhhh…Melvin cannot win vs Sherk because he has no ground game. This fight would not be a standing fight…Sherk wins, no problem. I agree Melvin is exciting to watch; but, he is one dimensional. I think he can beat Stevenson…again though, if Stevenson gets him down, it will be over.
melvin is awesome but i remember the neer fight melvin busted up neer bad but neer pushed through it and got the submission thats why i say that he might get overlly excited
i seen an interview nick gave on sherdog after his fight with gomi hes a funny guy and he said he didnt know what punch did that much damage and that he only got punched with like 5or6 punches

I’m currently the Vice-Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Southwest Michigan. Our membership has doubled in size over the past 2 years, so atleast locally we are gaining momentum.
On June 21st I will announce my political intentions for 2008 at an event I have planned here locally (June 21st is my 32nd birthday as well). Although I can’t really say right now publically what office I’m going to seek in 2008, I will say that it is a county-wide position in a partisan race.

I’d say, he’s not a champion, but he does have that “Diaz mentality” that likes to scrap, and don’t take no shet.
He’s tough as nails, knows a few submissions, and don’t mind standing toe to toe, so I like him already!
However, I’m ready to predict that Nate makes the semis, and maybe the finals..
