Today's Mixed Martial Arts News and Analysis Headquarters

Floyd Mayweather JrWell apparently boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. has absolutely no respect for mixed martial arts. While searching the internet this morning, I found the following quote courtesy of TheSweetScience.com:

“UFC ain’t s**t,” he said. “It ain’t but a fad. Anyone can put a tattoo on their head and get in a street fight.” He singled out UFC poster boy Chuck Liddell for an extra overhand right.

“We should put Liddell against a good heavyweight, under Mayweather Promotions, and if Chuck wins, then I’ll give him a million dollars out of my own pocket.” PBF then shoe-shined all MMA fighters. “These are guys who couldn’t make it in boxing,” he said. “So they do (MMA). Boxing is the best sport in the world and it’s here to stay.”

Mayweather is like what, a buck fifty dripping wet? I think he should worry more about his upcoming bout against Oscar De La Hoya than attempting to diss MMA, especially Chuck Liddell.

Sure in a pure boxing match, Mayweather could probably beat most mma lightweights. However in the cage, I’ll take Sean Sherk, Jens Pulver or B.J.Penn any day.

Don’t let this get around, but I gotta back Diik here. Those big pillows that a boxer straps on, do absorb most of the impact.

You can’t even begin to compare that to a well excuted round house, or elbow, where it’s “bone on bone” direct contact. One MMA blow equals dozens of boxer blows.

floyd mayweather can smoke my pole

  3. Dennis says:

    @Mario

you said, and I quote, “like dont get me wrong i love the ufc but boxers can take more of a beating there bodies are tougher”

You gotta be fooking kidding me right? Let’s see a boxer take a sledge hammer to his solar plexus, or break bricks with his forehead. I know lets get floyd to lay on a bed of nails, and drive a truck over his stomach, or get him to firewalk.

So, do you still think that boxers are tougher?

  4. therealist says:

floyd would demolish anyone in or near his weightclass… no 1 in mma can even come klose to matching his speed and intelligence… as for chuck it would be nice to see him step into the ring with a good heavyweight, he has awesome power so it would be kool to see it tested on a real heavyweight with a chin…

  5. richard says:

alright the realist u mean chuck in a ring with boxing rules hes probably gonna lose through the same in the cage and for sure the heavywieght is gonna lose no ?

  6. bvrasp says:

the thing about boxing is, theres alot of leaning-in, all the weight on the front leg to lean in and get more extention in the punchs. Also it allows them to pull their head back easier leaning-in. You cant use that strategy in mma because you would get sweeped, its a whole different idea, it really is apples and oranges. Martial Arts in definately superior in terms of protecting yourself outside the ring..

    @ Dennis comment #51,

I don’t think 90% of boxers out there would win an MMA fight, but in regards to your comment…that is just the thing…if professional boxers can do so much damage with those padded 10 or 12lb gloves…just imagine what they could do w/o them.

  8. richard says:

yes but a amautuer mma artist would know to take it to the mate

  9. IcEMANgLidel says:

Honstely I dont think it would be close. Pro boxers are so much quicker with hand speed and hit so hard hence why they say u have a weapon on ur fists and can go to jail if u hit someone. If one moved in to take down floyd he would pop em once or twice and drop them to the ground. Remember the boxer also wouldnt be wearing big paded boxing gloves.

  10. Dennis says:

According to FightNews.com, Mayweather acknowledged that he was just running his mouth when he insulted MMA fighters in multiple interviews leading up to last night’s fight.

“I apologize to the UFC,” the boxing champ is quoted. “Sometimes we say things that we shouldn’t have said and I’m man enough to admit that. I apologize to the Fertittas, Lorenzo and Dana White. I respect MMA fighters and what they do in the UFC. I have no plans of fighting in mixed martial arts.”

  11. Dennis says:

    @Amir

of course there are some fights that would be lost to boxers, because of their “puncher’s chance”,

however, most victories would go to the MMA fighter, I think mainly because of defense.

Most MMA fighters can block a punch, but few boxers know hoew to sprawl or can block a sweep.

  12. bvrasp says:

you watch the de la hoya – mayweather dennis? for all the hype, i decided to watch it, for free of course, in case something interesting happened.. it didnt.. the best part of that event was when they were talking about how the MMA numbers have increased exponentially while the boxing numbers have fallen off. It seemed like the entire audience was celebrities whos agent probably booked it for them as a promo, instead of them being interested in the fight..

    in short.. boxing still sucks..

    • jon says:

hows it going? seen your commet on floyd, and wanted your thoughts on his fighting. I think he sucks…what about you…If he wasn’t undefeated…he would be very regular…he tries to stick out like jones and ali…but he sucks in that too…they were naturals

  13. Dennis says:

LOL, is it me, or did that fight appear as …………..”FIXED”?

  14. bvrasp says:

fixed? what makes you say that?

  15. PATRICK says:

    BOXING BLOWS THE BIG ONE

  16. Dennis says:

Maybe it’s just me, but it looked like they both did allot of dancing, and jabbing, with neither fighter really “putting out”.

  17. Dennis says:

…..although, I must confess that I didn’t see the whole thing.

They couldn’t keep my attention, so I kept changing channels, looking for something better.

  18. PATRICK says:

EVERYONE ALWAYS CALLS U OLD ON HERE … HOW OLD R U

  19. Dennis says:

    Well Pat……….. I guess I am the “Old Man” here a mmahq…at 48!

Still tough as nails though, not afraid to ride my Harley into any hole in the country.

    How old are you there….?

  20. PATRICK says:

    DENNIS

    24 OVER HERE

  21. Shareef says:

    A couple of things:

    1) In brawl Mayweather would absolutely destroy Chuck Liddel and anyone who disagrees is either being dishonest or has not seen what Mayweather does to people. However, on the ground (from the clinch and down) there is nothing in the arsonal of boxing that prepares Mayweather to deal with an armbar or any of the other grappling techniques unique to MMA.

    2) And I have to say this: while MMA is closer to an actual street fight than standard boxing and therefore is more practical outside of the ring MMA is not conducive to streetfighting either. I don’t know where you all get into fights at or who you’re fighting but rolling around on the ground when facing multiple attackers or someone with a knife is not self-defense gentleman, its sports and you should never confuse the two. Vee-Jitsu, Sanuces Jiu Jitsu, Kenpo, Pencak Silat, Kali, Arnis, Krav Magva, etc. are what you use on someone in the real world with no referees, rounds or bells.

  22. jon says:

Floyd mayweather fears real compitition…Mosely…cotto…margarito…upcoming and seasoned guys…clotty…come on..de la hoya again…his dad trained him for years…a disciplined fighter will beat him any day…he holds…lunge out, crashing on the toe to score…and that shell defense, is for elbows…he does not square up…its only a bluff for a reaction..when has he ever through a full combo…not a 1-2…we can throw them…3-4…5-6…professionals throw them…maybe he should go to ufc…he can grapple there…and no mayweather influence is floating around there…oh yeah, money talks…but not to a real fighter…they are not sell-outs..roy jones is 51-4…100000x better than mayweather…the best baby…ali loss 5 greatest of all time…dont get caught up in the hype…broadcast yourself when you watch his fights…fxxk the broadcasters…they sell the fight ladies and gents…holla

  23. jon says:

i feel you..but mayweather dont attack enough to compete in the ufc…you collide in there…you slam…he is light…he is noooo street fighter…and foreal he is no slugger in the ring…hes a cheap shot artist…o.k he perfected the art of frustration…like who can get away with the most…or can i convince the refs otherwise…money talks in his cases…the refs never gets on him…he crys for help to achieve opputunity…a disciplined fighter will destroy him…just listen to the dialogue in the judah fight…when judah decides to talk off a round to counter…thats allful for him…but thats floyds style…he is not a great…b-hop said it the best…if your the best…do great things…not go to the wwe and retire after hatton…there is active boxers waiting to get a shot at the best…you know he dont want mosely…cotto…margarito…**** he should move up…he is wack homeboy

  24. Bo says:

Mayweather’s just a typical trash talking boxer who can’t stand the fact that people have finally realized that boxing is not the most dominant fighting style. They could put Mayweather against a nobody in the UFC and I honestly don’t think he’d make it through the first round. There was talk of him and Sean Sherk, that would be probably the most one sided fight in MMA history. Sherk would rip the boy’s head off and poop down his neck.
