Today's Mixed Martial Arts News and Analysis Headquarters

Floyd Mayweather JrWell apparently boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. has absolutely no respect for mixed martial arts. While searching the internet this morning, I found the following quote courtesy of TheSweetScience.com:

“UFC ain’t s**t,” he said. “It ain’t but a fad. Anyone can put a tattoo on their head and get in a street fight.” He singled out UFC poster boy Chuck Liddell for an extra overhand right.

“We should put Liddell against a good heavyweight, under Mayweather Promotions, and if Chuck wins, then I’ll give him a million dollars out of my own pocket.” PBF then shoe-shined all MMA fighters. “These are guys who couldn’t make it in boxing,” he said. “So they do (MMA). Boxing is the best sport in the world and it’s here to stay.”

Mayweather is like what, a buck fifty dripping wet? I think he should worry more about his upcoming bout against Oscar De La Hoya than attempting to diss MMA, especially Chuck Liddell.

Sure in a pure boxing match, Mayweather could probably beat most mma lightweights. However in the cage, I’ll take Sean Sherk, Jens Pulver or B.J.Penn any day.

    he seems a little threatened by mma…do people even watch boxing anymore?

  2. Dennis says:

    Chuck would cream him in the first round….

  3. Despys says:

    i am just a coach and ill whoop his ***. MMA VS boxing? not even a close call. boxing sucks now.

  4. richard says:

    chuck should honestly look into that million dollars Floyd suck a di*ck i think i take sh*its bigger than him

  5. bvrasp says:

    haha i think hes just trying to get some hype back for boxing, nobody cares about his fight with de la hoya. Theyre both boxing coaches these days with their own stable of fighters and their probably losing their shirts backing a dying sport.

  6. Amir says:

    I agree that he is clearly letting out his frustrations with the threat that the UFC and MMA in general has put towards not only his career as a boxer, but now as a promoter. The writing is on the wall, I think it is just a matter of time before we here more boxing affiliated people say more harsh things about MMA, because it is directly taking money off of their table. I used to like him before I read this. He must be out of his mind if he thinks that he, or an yother pro boxer, would survive even 2 rounds with a UFC fighter. Does he realize that Diego Sachez is currently training with De La Hoya for the Kos fight? either way, I guarantee is he enters the octagon…”pretty boy” won’t be so pretty any more.

  7. R.J. St.Croix says:

    huh weird?!? well i guess when you put pillows on your hands and punch each other a few hundred times you still get brain damage. lol poor pretty boy.

  8. maxx says:

    He’s just worried, really it’s fairly obvious. We should expect to hear more like this in the near future. The Pride deal just put MMA squarely on the radar, that good and bad. You can expect boxing purests to start taking their stabs at MMA in a reaction to protect their bread and butter. I see boxing vs. mma like I seen VHS vs DVD. MMA is the evolution of combat sports, and if wants to get a piece of the future pie I suggest he get a ground game.

  9. Dennis says:

    I really hope we’re witnessing an end of the Don King era. Time for those guys to get a real job, instead of just riding on the fighter’s backs.

  10. Dennis says:

    …..and it’s time for the fighters to step up their game if they want to be considered real gladiators.

  11. You can’t really compare the two sports. That would be like Tiger Woods calling out David Beckham. Boxing and MMA are to different sports. True, both combat sports, but too different to even attampt to compare.

  12. Dennis says:

    Yea, but………

    I boxer IS calling out the ICEMAN, so Chuck should prove that.

  13. Dennis says:

    …… and a hockey player named Happy did win the masters…. LOL

  14. PATRICK says:

    LOL TIGER VS BECKHAM

  15. Dennis says:

    Did anyone else here watch Spike all day yesterday?

  16. PATRICK says:

    MAYWEATHER SUCKS I HOPE OSCAR KICKS HIS A SS
    AND YES DENNIS I CAUGHT SPIKE TV YESTERDAY

  17. Dennis says:

    I hope Oscar wins too, but Floyd is fast, and hits pretty hard, so I wouldn’t bet against him.

  18. Dennis says:

    In fact, if you’d put GSP against Floyd in a boxing match, Floyd would win.

    In a MMA match, of course GSP would win.

  19. Dennis says:

    I’m thinking hard about going to UFC 69, even though it is on Easter weekend.

  20. PATRICK says:

    SO DENNIS WHAT HAVE U BEEN THINKIN ABOUT UFC 69

  21. todd says:

    WOW!!! What the hell is wrong with floyd. C’mon you cant even compare the sports, they are like apples and oranges. Well i gues you have to lookat it in a couple of ways, Floyd is on the top of his game right now so he can say some things, but if you put him in a cage he prolly would lose. He cant run in a cage especially when chuck corners you, and i dont think he has ever been hit with a chuck punch so for him to just talk like he really KNOWS about what a boxer can do to a mma gladiater is ridiculous!!!! Floyd just is being floyd but boxing is in a drought right now and there arnt a lot of fighters out there that people wanna see and would pay some money to see so no wonder why he is retiring after this fight.

  22. MMAKansas says:

    It’s almost prophetic. Wand was saying the “Pride will beat UFC” and kicking up such a fuss right before the Vegas fight, (Pride33). In hindsight, it was a last desperate call from an organization that was on the verge of collapse. I think this is a similar situation, Mayweather is simply talking it because he is scared of losing his job. As far as dissing Chuck as a guy who has a tatoo on his head and is into street brawling or whatever, LOOK AT TYSON YOU HYPOCRITE…. at least Chuck Liddell has CLASS and is mentally sound.

  23. klown says:

    Chuck should take the challenge. $1 million, not bad. What say you, Dana White?

  24. PATRICK says:

    MAYWEATHER DONT EVEN HAVE A MILLION DOLLARS

  25. Dennis says:

    Hey Doc,

    Thanks for finally taking away that annoying 1001 submissions banner ad…

  26. Dr J says:

    @Dennis,

    yeah I dont think anyone will miss seeing that thing…

  27. bvrasp says:

    @Dr. J

    for some reason, the anti-spam word isnt showing up for me in your UFN post.. tho its here in all the other ones. So obviously i cant post in that thread. Is it only me? or are other people having this problem?

  28. MMAKansas says:

    @BVRASP
    Had the same problem at work earlier around 4:45pm Central Time.

  29. hotpad says:

    @todd

    if floyd entered the cage- he WOULD lose.

  30. MMAKansas says:

    By the looks of that picture, Floyd Mayweather has finally learned to count to one…. maybe someday he can learn to count to number two, because that is what boxing is now that MMA has hit mainstream America, number two …

  31. bvrasp says:

    LOL mmakansas, i think your right, originally i thought they caught him about to pick his nose hehe.

  32. PATRICK says:

    I CANT WAIT TILL THIS A SSHOLE GETS HIS FIRST LOSS

  33. Dennis says:

    Talk about on a fighter’s nutz! mmaweekly’s staff sux!

    #1 Middleweight Fighter in the World: Matt Lindland

    2. Anderson Silva

    3. Paulo Filho

    4. Rich Franklin

    5. Dan Henderson

    6. Denis Kang

    7. Nathan Marquardt

    8. Robbie Lawler

    9. Kazuo Misaki

    10. Frank Trigg

  34. PATRICK says:

    YEA THATS A SICK LIST

  35. PATRICK says:

    YO IS MATT LINLAND REALLY THAT GOOD…. ???? MAN HES UGLY

  36. R.J. St.Croix says:

    yeah i really dont know why mmaweekly loves lindland so much. he has been #1 on the top ten middle weights forever. he most notable win were he last two fights with carlos newton and jeremy horn but he has been on the top of that list since way befor that. maybe after fedor eats him alive he might drop a spot or two. then again fedor is a heavy so they might not count it against him.

  37. R.J. St.Croix says:

    @dr j
    i cant post on the UFN preview thread its the same problem as last time there is no place for anit-spam thing. it just shows up like it did way back befor you added the anti-spam thing.

  38. Dr J says:

    @RJ

    I’ll take a look at it. I’m not sure why that is happening every now and then.

  39. richard says:

    ok now hillbilly are u taking my comments ive been saying for a while that linland shouldnt be number one i thought brian was the only one who “borrowed”ideas.GATTIES ILL BET U ON THE LIDDEL FIGHT if u win ill get u a shirt and if i win u buy me one.Stevenson said he wants to stand with melvin so if he tries lights out stenenson also i think that kenny florian is gonna win

  40. MMAKansas says:

    WAAAAY of subject, but I have to ask, does anyone have an update on the status of Wand’s contract with Pride FC and as to whether or not he will be fighting in Pride 34? I’m a huge fan and I can’t find anything on the net or on any websites regarding his current situation post Pride 33. He was ranting about UFC/PRIDE ect before Pride 33 and I am wondering what direction he is going to go in now that he is practically owned by the UFC unless he goes and fights for “Bodog” or some other org.

  41. richard says:

    THE SHIRTS SO FAR ARE AWESOME CANT WAIT TO BUY ONE

  42. Dr J says:

    @MMAKansas,

    Wanderlei has been cleared by the commission to fight at Pride 34.

  43. MMAKansas says:

    Thanks DrJ. Hey, Wand still isn’t listed on the Pride website as participating. I guess from what it looks like, he is going to opt out, but they are using his face for the advertisement. Did you guys hear that Dan Henderson got stripped of one of his titles .. saw that on sherdog.

  44. richard says:

    DAMN if henderson got stripped thats fu*ckin bull if he did i lost respect for ufc the man earned those titles

  45. Brian says:

    If MMA is a fad…why is he being asked questions about it? The questions where probably something like…”Do you think MMA is taking over the world of combat sports?”

    Screw him!

  46. R.J. St.Croix says:

    come on boys get some t shirt ideas in i wanna be rockin a cool asss tee this summer to help pimp the site a bit. if dr.j is gonna be cool enough to make up shirts we should help a bit and you all better buy one! lol
    o.k. on to mma…..cuz thats really why we are here. i have been going back and forth on who is going to win guillard or stevenson and i still dont want to guess but i flipped a coin and stevenson is going to win and i asked my kid and and he said round two knock out and my wife chimed in “yeah with a ground and pound” so thats it, thats my prediction.

  47. Jeff says:

    Absolute moron, who i would love to fight myself and make him look like a jack ***, no punches needed.

  48. Mario says:

    look i agree with you guys dat UFC is becoming big time now but a UFC fighter not even Chuck Lidell could compare the number of punches to the head a boxer gets for instance look at GSP he got hit in the head what 4-5 times? nd then got pounced on then you have some like Oscar who can get hit 20-30 in th head per round and still stands MMA is only martial arts if you wanna choke somone outs great u wanna watch two warriors go toe to toe u have to watch a good boxing fight like dont get me wrong i love the ufc but boxers can take more of a beating there bodies are tougher

  49. richard says:

    WHAT AN IDIOT
    MARIO do u know that the two gloves dont weigh the same not even close to the same have u ever thought of that

  50. Bocephus says:

    For starters these are 2 different animals when comparing UFC/MMA and boxing. Both require some skill and toughness. I for one would not want to fight chuck. I would rather fight mayweather.
    If I could pick one to be good at it would be boxing. When else you going to make 15-20 million for one fight. Oscar makes that. There are very few athletes in the world that can say that.
