Loretta Hunt at TheFightNetwork.com is reporting that Melvin Guillard tested positive for cocaine metabolite after his recent UFC Fight Night fight against Joe Stevenson.
A post-fight urinalysis conducted for April 5 UFC Fight Night headliner Melvin Guillard has allegedly tested positive for cocaine metabolite, said the Nevada State Athletic Commission today – a first for a mixed martial arts athlete in the State.
The Kenner, Louisiana native will have 30 days from the receipt of a written complaint to reply to the allegation and will be temporarily suspended at a forthcoming NSAC meeting. Guillard will face the Commission’s board at a second hearing where he can speak on his behalf and/or provide evidence to contest the allegation if he chooses. If found within violation of the state agency’s regulations, Guillard could be subjected to suspension and/or fines. Guillard earned $7,000 for his April 5 loss to Stevenson.
In 1997, boxer Lionel Butler’s urinalysis reflected the presence of Benzoylegonine, a cocaine metabolite. Butler’s urinalysis also reflected the presence of Delta-9-THC carboxylic acid, the major metabolite of Delta-9-THC (the active ingredient in marijuana). Butler was subsequently suspended for one year for the infractions. No combat sports participant has tested positive for cocaine metabolite till now.
If this is true, it is very disappointing for all MMA fans. Before his fight with Joe Stevenson, Melvin made big news by claiming that Stevenson used Human Growth Hormone. Now Melvin is the one testing positive for drugs; and not just any drug, but cocaine. A very disappointing story and another hurdle in the rise of MMA in the public eye.
MMA promotions and fighters have fought so hard and come so far in recent months to bring the sport of MMA into the “mainstream” here in North America. But with the recent rash of positive drug tests from “big name” fighters like Diego Sanchez, Nick Diaz and Melvin Guillard it would be easy to see why the general population would still consider MMA to be a “fringe” and somewhat “laughable” sport.

I’m not sure we are even looking at a suspension. If this is true, I think we are probably looking at Melvin having his license revoked completely in Nevada (at least for a full year).

I don’t now a LOT about cocaine, but I’m pretty sure the stuff only stays in your system for a few days. At least less than a month. If I’m right, that means he took some while training and everything. Heck, he could’ve taken some the day before. He really is a retard!
