UltimateFantatic.com, a French-Canadian site, has an interview today with Stéphane Patry, Georges St. Pierre’s trainer. In the interview, Patry implies that perhaps GSP didn’t train has long and hard as he should/could have for his title defense against Matt Serra. Patry says GSP only trained roughly 3 weeks for the Serra fight instead of his normal 6-8 weeks of training. Both before and after the fight, GSP insisted that he did not take Matt Serra lightly, but perhaps he truly did…
UF : Georges mentioned in his post fight interview that he didn’t felt as usual before the fight. Did you perceived a strange feeling in the moments preceding the fight?
SP : No. In the locker room, everything went well. I think that it all happen when he entered to walk thru the octagon. Georges generally trains hard 6 to 8 weeks before the fight. For this fight, he only trained 4 weeks and he went 1 week in Europe then got ill for a few days when he went back to Canada.
His 4 weeks training was more a 3 weeks training sprint, maybe less. According to me, Georges lost his confidence when he entered the octagon, remembering himself he didn’t train as hard as he should have, or as he usually do. He had a lot of question in his head at this moment. He said in interview he feels his legs and shoulders were heavy, but in the locker room, he didn’t felt this way at all. Maybe all those questions affected his confidence. He wasn’t mentally in his best shape…
UF : Do you think Georges under estimated Matt Serra?
SP : I won’t tell he under estimated Serra, but you can’t fight at this level with a 3 weeks training camp only to face somebody who did train seriously for 7-8 weeks. Georges could have beaten Serra, but as I said, some little details can truly make the difference…
UF : Considering he wasn’t in his best shape, why Georges didn’t pulled out once again?
SP : The fight was already postponed twice and I figure out it became more and more delicate to do it again. And Georges decided to go anyway in Europe for a week during his training camp. It was his decision. He made some youthful mistakes while preparing for this fight and I sincerely think he’s gonna learn from it and come back stronger in a near future.

I think that GSP was an idiot for traveling international weeks before his first title defense. Just plain arrogance to think he would only need to train 3-4 weeks and could handle international changes in diet, and sleep/time changes. Maybe arrogance is too strong, perhaps he was just young and dumb, youthful mistakes is what his trainer said, I think he was right, just plain stupid mistakes. I know what he is saying though, you cannot fight top level without training top level, doesn’t matter how good you are, you will fight like you train period.
YEA GEORGE BASICALLY FOOKED UP THIS WHOLE THING
HE’LL LEARN AND BE CHAMP AGAINBOTTOM LINE IS THAT
GEORGE IS FULL OF **** HE TOOK SERRA LIGHTLY
I DONT THINK HE EVEN TRAINED FOR THIS FIGHT
@Patrick
My sentinments exactly, I really don’t think he trained seriously for this fight at all, I think he took it as a gimme, I also agree that he will come back strong and win, but he has a french background so hopefully he doesn’t “gerle” out on us… lol.. just kidding.
You guys are all suckers. GSP was physically ready for this fight dont be fooled by that ****. Just look at his body and tell me 3 weeks of intense training instead of for made “ALL the difference” like the trainer said. Gsp got hit in the back of the head. Whether he was in his prime or not that would have hurt him and end the fight. Maybe he’ll be more careful next time.
YO I DIDNT THINK U WERE ALLOWED TO HIT IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD?
This has all the makings of great propaganda……..damage control.
Maybe Don King is his PR guy.
ZAK HIS BODY ALWAYS LOOKS LIKE THAT
if he didnt train as hard as he should of hes stupid and was putting up a front if he didnt train that means that he didnt respect serras skills so he deserved to get knocked out and i think people are putting to much into “in the back of the head”maybe it was a little towards the back a little but it still wasnt a clean shot i think i caught him towards the top and through him off balance.OH AND ITS MY 22ND BIRTHDAY AND THE ONE THING I WANT IS SOME BIRTHDAY HEAD WHILE WATCHING GSP GETTING KOED
HB Diik!
@ZAK
Suckers? No not really. I understand the sport from a personal perspective, reality is that muscles have memory, of course his body looked good, but the mental conditioning to react at the right times, ect comes from training up to the minute for a fight. Trust me, I have been through it personally, no bs.. he was not ready for that fight..
Happy Birthday Richard! Ask CEZ if he will give you a birthday present, he seems to be pretty into that!
even though Zak was clearly not addressing me, I can’t help but chime in here….
MMAK is correct!……….and Diik is even closer than you this time Zak, and that really hurts.
LMFAO!
it must be my birthday if HILLBILLY is agreeing with me

Happy B-Day Richard.. dennis, im sure Gabe Ruediger knows exactly what your talking about.. whats with the Colonic???? LOL
this is making me laugh. Fighters make mistakes. Randlemen knocked out cro cop once. Are you gonna say cro cop didnt train? Its called a punchers chance which is what matt serra stumbled across. Anyways this board isnt as good as the chuck liddell one so im gone
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH DR JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ
TODAY IS THURDAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?????
What’s going on these days? it’s like every time a guy loses, he blames it on something other than HIM LOSING. Just keep your mouth shut and suck it up, you lost so come back stronger the next time and prove it was a fluke…don’t raise questions amongst everyone.
AMIR ON THE POST SHERDOG INTERVIEW GSP SAID HE ACCEPTS HIS LOSS AND HAS NO EXCUSES
Was that interview right after the fight? cause I saw GSP interviewed in the cage right afterwards and he did state that he lost plain and simple, but things happen days later, when a guy realizes the full extent of what happened and becomes desperate to save face. After re-reading the article I get the impression that his trainer is just stating his own personal opinion on what happend but there are a few areas where it seems he is blaming the loss on things that should not have been an issue.
@ pat
ok pat so why are you and dennis and other people not sticking to that either. Your the one saying **** like his training wasnt good.
@Dennis
when you said :”even though Zak was clearly not addressing me, I can’t help but chime in here…
MMAK is correct!……….and Diik is even closer than you this time Zak, and that really hurts.”
What do you mean by that? Is that cuz u usually agree with what i say?
ZAK ARE YOU HIGH I DIDNT SAY THAT…
THAT INTERVIEW WAS HIS TRAINER….IM JUST SAYING I BELIEVE THAT GSP DIDNT TRAIN CUZ HE THINK HE COULD WHOOP SERRAS *** AND GOT HIS WHOOPED IN RETURN
zak
dennis aka HILLBILLY said that to u and me cuz we dont agree with what he has to say usually
Now I am absolutely positive that this is the Gayest TUF series yet!
Gabe Ruediger is Gaey
BJ Penn is Gaey
…and whoever was running around in thongs is Gaey!
BJ’s whole team may be Gaey for all I know.
They should call themselves………TEAM BJ!
LMFAO
he will forever be known as Gaybe Ruediger in my book.. I guess they havent picked him to fight because they dont want to eliminate him because of weight, they wanna throw him a beatdown first, then send him home.. I totally agree.. GETCHA MIND RIGHT GAYBE!
