Today's Mixed Martial Arts News and Analysis Headquarters

I have had quite of few people email me or leave comments here at MMA HQ asking for the fighter payouts for UFC 69: Shootout that was held April 7 in Houston, Texas. Believe me, I have been trying my hardest to get the information from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation but they haven’t been willing to release the information yet.

Here is the “official” response that I have been getting from the Texas licensing board:

This is in response to your public information request received by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (Department) on April 18, 2007. You requested fighter salary payout information for UFC 69 held on April 7, 2007 in Houston, Texas.

The Department believes that the information you have requested is excepted from disclosure under the Texas Public Information Act. We wish to withhold this information and have requested an open records decision from the Attorney General about whether the information is within an exception to public disclosure. We will notify you when a decision is issued. A copy of our request for a decision is attached. We will forward any subsequent written communications we may have with the Office of the Attorney General regarding our request.

As you can see, for some reason according to Texas State laws, they believe the fighter purse information is excluded from disclosure under the Texas Public Information Act. However, apparently enough people have been requesting the information so they have submitted a request to the Attorney General on whether they should release the fighter payouts as public information or not. I’ve linked to the actual document request they submitted so you can see how the whole thing works. Why Texas doesn’t normally release the fighter purse info like most other states, I don’t know. Hopefully, in the near future I will have an answer one way or the other about the salary info. Until then, everyone can take it easy and stop bugging me to get the info…

(As you can see, I’ve blacked out some personal information on Page 1. I don’t want any of you guys stalking me, haha…)
