Rich Franklin confirmed that Yushin Okami has signed to fight in replacement of Martin Kampmann at UFC 72. The following was posted by Rich Franklin this morning on his official website:
I spoke with Monte (my manager) Saturday evening and that conversation eluded to the fact that Kampman may be out. Monday,I was told he would be replaced with a top 10 opponent, and Okami was presented as the likely possibility. Later that day we found out Okami signed. From my end, the contract remains the same, and I’m still excited to fight June 16th in Belfast. My camp will make some changes in my training as well as develop a new strategy to approach this fight. However, I was and will continue preparing a fight…not a person.

He lost to the #1 heavyweight int he world….HEAVYWEIGHT. If anything he solidified his middleweight standings by coming out of the match alive. The mmaweekly rankings are pretty much useless, but they do provide a good “top 10″ list. As far as who is actually ranked over who…is mostly speculation. Plus ay ranking system is useless unless these guys actually fight each other. Rich Franklin is better than Dan Henderson??…based on what?? Number of T-shirts sold???
