This morning, Royce Gracie finally confirmed what has been rumored for about two months now. The first K-1 Hero’s card to be held in the USA on June 2 will feature a fight between Royce Gracie vs. Kazushi Sakuraba.
This morning on the MMAtv.com UnderGround forums, Royce made the following post:
For years the fans have been asking if I am going to ever fight Sakuraba again. Well now you have it. June 2nd, LA Colisem. The fight was offered to me, and I accepted it.
So come on out, we have a lot of seats to fill – lol

Gracie and Sakuraba first fought in May of 2000 during the PRIDE Grand Prix 2000 Finals. Their fight lasted for over an hour before Gracie’s corner threw in the towel giving Sakuraba the TKO victory. This fight with K-1 Hero’s will be scheduled for five 5-minute rounds.

It should be noted that the California State Athletic Commission, which has been noted for stringent provisions in sanctioning mixed martial arts under executive officer Armando Garcia, has requested a full physical examination of Sakuraba.
The mandate was expected, given the 38-year-old Sakuraba’s now-infamous fainting spell during training this past September, and the subsequent medical tests that revealed damage to Sakuraba’s vertebrobasilar system, preventing proper blood circulation in his head and neck.

SAKURABA BABY! heeeell ya! this is gon be a great fight! if he was fighting Silva again, i wouldnt agree with it, Saku doesnt need anymore knees to the head. Since Royce has very limited striking ability, hes gon want to go to the ground, this means Saku will control the standup game. These guys are very evenly matched, it wont be like a hughes – royce situation.

I am excited about this. Royce doesn’t suck, he is old, and starting to show his age badly, starting to suck a little, but you could say the same for any fighter over 40, its not about “what have you done for me lately” it’s about a legacy. The Gracie name is synonymous with MMA and that will be eternal. I am sure that in a few years lots of people will say that Chuck Liddell sucks, or Randy Couture now sucks. Everyone ages differently. This is probably one of the last big cards Royce will be on, and against his old rival who will probably beat him, but hey you can’t argue that it’s not more exciting than UFC 72! LOL!

I gotta respect them though.. .. I have a purple belt in it.. and yeah, it’s pretty effective along with striking… I really have this whole RESPECT thing for Bruce Lee, the Gracies, ect….
ya the gracie era is over, but so is the Sakuraba era, the point is, theyre very WELL MATCHED with each other which will make for a good fight.

Wand would do very well with Chuck, he isn’t a dumb idiot, he knows that Chuck is awesome, he would prepare with the best of the best in Chuteboxe, Shogun and the rest, and would put out a great fight, no 1st round knockouts in my opinion…
i think a draw, maybe because they are much respected they would respect each other in the ring and only throw a little bit, i dont think wandy would rush because he knows chuck would and could knock him out from an odd angle, and the same with chuck, i think a draw

Hmm. never thought in that direction. Perhaps. But I think in the end, knockout would come out of it. They are both strikers.. I can see Chuck winning by knockout over 3 rounds… i can also see Wand upsetting and knocking Chuck out by catching him off guard and rushing him like Vitor Belfort did to Wand back in the good ol’ days…
