Ken ShamrockUFC Hall-of-Famer Ken Shamrock announced yesterday on Fight Network Radio that his contract with the UFC has been terminated by Zuffa. You may remember a little while back when the FightNetwork.com reported that Ken Shamrock might be fighting Michael Bisping at UFC 75, even though TicketMaster.com was already promoting the event as featuring a fight between Bisping and Matt Hammill.

Well, Dana White and the UFC quickly dispelled that rumor and it appears now that Ken may never appear in the UFC again. Ken was reportedly released because of his status as coach of the Reno Lions in the International Fight League.

“He [White] doesn’t want competition, and then when I went over there [to the IFL], he got completely upset with me — which had nothing to do with the UFC — and tried to ban me from the UFC because of his personal conflicts with the IFL,” a heated Shamrock said.

“Dana White didn’t build this [UFC] organization,” said Shamrock. “Dana White is not God when it comes to this. Dana White is a promoter that took an event that was already created by Bob Meyrowitz and by Rorian Gracie. This guy did not create this. Therefore, he needs to stop playing God, trying to squash people who try to go out and do other adventures.”

Does Ken’s release “pave the way” for the much talked about fight with brother Frank Shamrock in Strikeforce?

I really don’t like Dana White. He is a ***, plain and simple, the fact is Ken Shamrock is right, he DID NOT BUILD THE UFC, he just helped it reach the next level as a promoter. He acts in mafioso fashion making the sport look dirty and dark. I don’t like his underhanded methods, how much blood has Ken shed in the octagon and how many shows has he done. You put the guy in the hall of fame, then you piss on him for looking at other employment while he is off the fight card temporarily. No wonder guys like Tito, Frank, Fedor, ect have issues with the UFC, they like CONTROL of peoples lives, which is total BS..

Dana made the right decision, Ken has no business fighting in the UFC. The UFC does not owe Ken a fight. If anything, Ortiz-Shamrock 3 was a gift.

Ken is full of it. He is not in the best shape of his life. He is not a good fighter. He would not defeat Bisping. He is simply looking for another paycheck.

This is not to say that Dana made the right decision for the right reasons. He may very well have had bad reason for his decision.

As for UFC and Dana. Buisness wise Dana saved the UFC with heavy backing by the Casino brothers. As for taking care of the fighters the UFC terribly under pays. Ken Shamrock is a terrible fighter. He never had good skills. Tito vs Sham 3 was a going away present. Ken seems like a real d–k as. Terrible coaching on TUF as well (who does not recruit a submission specialist to help coach and instead brings in a juiced up body builder friend to tell the fighters to eat alot of protien). I can not believe this guys slipped through the cracks into the UFC hall of fame. Dana is making a killing and should beef up pay days for the guys risking life and limb in the cage. Why when we order UFC PPV do we not get to see all the fights on the card. Instead we see pre fight interviews loop every five minutes. The under card are some of the best fights

  6. Jason Gatties says:

Hell I’m glad Ken is officially gone from the UFC. Facts are Facts and Ken Shamrock hasn’t been worth a **** since the 90′s. I’ve been a UFC fan since UFC 2 and I will say that ZUFFA (stop saying “dana” good or bad, it’s not Dana’s company, where I come from, OWNERS have final say, get that fact through your heads) built the UFC into the great company it is today, not Ken Shamrock. Ken and Royce may have laid the foundation, but the UFC is where it is today because of ZUFFA’s involvement.

FYI, we interview Ken Shamrock for this week’s edition of Fight Opinion Radio. He had a few choice words for Dana.

hey doc whens nick diaz fighting again?

  9. richard says:

JUST 406 MORE AND IM #1

  10. Dr J says:

    @Richard,

Not really sure. I think Diaz is off suspension in about 3 months. He is under contract with EliteXC and possibly with Pride, although I think he only signed a one-fight deal with Pride. My guess is we will see him in the next EliteXC event.

  11. PATRICK says:

I PERSONALLY THINK DIAZ WOULD GET HIS *** KICKED BY FRANK …. ALTHOUGH ID LOVE TO SEE DIAZ DISTROY HIM

  12. william says:

You know what,…Ken is a guy who sacrificed his body for the sake of the UFC. At UFC 40 he had no business fighting Tito being injured like he was – but he did it for the organization. This guys been fighting around injuries and surgeries every since he came back. I am not saying he would be top 10, or it would’ve made a difference. What I am saying is that he was used by the UFC to build other young fighters like Tito and Rich Franklin. Those two guys owe their fame to Shamrock. Just think d*** head Dana and the UFC could’ve appreciated what he’s done for them-honor the contract and set up a legends fight.

He knows how to sell tickets and he’s still got a strong following.

Bottom line UFC wouldn’t be where its at without Ken or Frank Shamrocks name linked to it.

Just my 2 cents…don’t go on bashing with nuthugging comments

  13. richard says:

i dont like the way dana treats these guys sometimes the guy just wants to make money man

  14. bvrasp says:

Agreed guys, with the amount of money the UFC is making off ppv events, the fighter payouts are very low. The UFC is supposed to be the upper eschelon of mma fighters, how can you have guys fighting for like 2000 dollars?? except for a few select fighters who make WAY more than that. I understand its all about the fight contracts and the fighters agree to that amount and sign off on it. Still, i could see the UFC rep, telling them this is a standard deal, if you win a few fights you will make more etc.. im sure they blow smoke up these guys *** and promise them the world, like how boxing promoters do.

I dont think its too much to ask to bump up the payouts, make it possible for these guys to fight for a living, not fighting on the weekend so they have to go back to work on monday. Sherk is a good example, he became the champ and he was finally making enough money to live on, so he quit his job and his training regimen went through the roof. More money is good for the fighters, its good for the fans, and it will ultimately make for better fights, higher skill levels, more determination to win.
