Today's Mixed Martial Arts News and Analysis Headquarters

Scott White over at MMAonTap.com picked up on some possible big news for the UFC this morning.

If you make your way over to the UFC website and check out their “Title Holders” section you’ll notice that they now have Featherweight (Over 135 lbs. to 145 lbs.) and Bantamweight (Over 125 lbs. to 135 lbs.) divisions listed. Could this mean the UFC plans on introducing these divisions soon?

It would make sense considering their influx of talent at the lower weights with the purchase of PRIDE and WEC.

If (as this is just speculation) the UFC does plan on adding these new weights, the divisions could be featured on an upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Update 2:45pm: Upon re-visiting UFC’s title holders page, the divisions no longer appear. Were they just testing, or did someone jump the gun updating the website before an announcement was made?

Hmmm, first the Featherweight and Bantamweights are listed and then suddenly they are not. Sounds like its definitely more than coincidence. Dana White has all along maintained that the “lighter weightclasses” (featherweight and below) would be kept in the realm of the WEC. Buth, then again, when has Dana White ever told the truth publically in the past?

Nice catch, Scott.

In a related or maybe unrelated case, UFC 73 was the first official UFC event I have ever seen Urijah Faber at, is there any significance?

WOW! that would be great man! id love to see some smaller guys, fight in the UFC. Kenflo for one should drop down, Pulver is already dropping down, Yves Edwards could drop down, but theres a TON of other talent at a natural 140-145. This would be a great move, smaller guys have tons on endurance and they scrap it out like animals!
