Kevin IoleDidn’t I mention yesterday, during the middle of all this furor surrounding the Chuck vs Wandy announcements that I wasn’t holding my breath and wouldn’t believe this fight was happening until it was officially announced. Well, yeah, looks like that was a good perspective to take.

Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports, who seems to have quickly become Dana White’s first go-to choice in the media, is reporting that the Wanderlei Silva vs Chuck Liddell fight is over and the deadline passed with no fight contract being signed by July 11 (yesterday). I’ve never heard of a July 11 deadline for this match to be made, but who knows what the real story is.

White said he had reached terms for Liddell, arguably the UFC’s most popular fighter and its recently deposed 205-pound champion, to meet the Brazilian Silva in a highly anticipated bout at UFC 76.

But White said Wednesday he was told by a member of Silva’s Chute Box team that Silva did not want to fight Liddell. White said the deadline for having the fight made was Wednesday.

“This is the worst news I could have possibly gotten,” White said. “It’s horrendous. I have been trying to make this fight for six years. I have done everything in my power I could do over the last six years to make this fight and it’s still not happening. I just don’t see it happening now.”

“This just happened (Wednesday afternoon) and I’m not sure what we’re going to do,” White said. “We’re trying to figure it out. It’s not a fun time right now.”

He said he’s not certain if he’ll keep Liddell on that card and match him with another opponent. A possibility would be to bring in more fighters who are under contract with Pride and have them fight in the main event.

White said he planned to go ahead with Rua against Machida and wasn’t at the moment considering a Rua-Liddell bout.

“We haven’t really had enough time to figure this out because it all just came down,” White said. “It’s been a bad day ever since I heard that.”

Sounds like it could all be a big smokescreen and a bunch of Dana White’s crap if you ask me. Seems strange that all this talk arises yesterday and Wanderlei is personally announcing the fight on this supposed deadline-day, and then the day after Dana White says the fight will never happen.

Like I said yesterday, I’m sick of all this nonsense with the Chuck vs Wandy fight, and I’m sure most of you are as well. Whether this September at UFC 76 or anytime after that, Chuck and Wandy will fight and then we can stop talking about it.

  9. Amir says:

I honestly thought I was the only here who saw through the UFC bs marketing machine…glad your on board KANSAS. I really would like to hear and be involved in any suggestions about what we can do to cause a stir online with all this non-sense.

  10. MMAKansas says:

    Wanderlei Silva:

In the video Wanderlei stated, “I never said that I wouldn’t fight Chuck. I’ve wanted this fight for a long time.”

The former Pride champion continued, “I received a contract with two options, I could fight in September or November. I have chosen to make this fight in November. I was the first to want this fight, but they kept avoiding this fight. Now there’s a lot of people saying that I have ducked Chuck. This is not true.”

According to Silva, the timing for the fight to take place in September did not work for him. He explained, “I am in a moment of transition in my life. I’m going to move to the U.S. in a few weeks. I’m going to live in the U.S. and there’s a lot of things happening, and I’m not focused on training the way I want to be. I always fought at the time the promoters wanted. Sometimes I did things I should not have done, but this time I won’t do that anymore.”

  11. MMAKansas says:

    UFC.com’s side of the story:

There was a glimmer of hope in the last couple of weeks, when terms were reportedly reached for the two future Hall of Famers to meet at UFC 76 in Anaheim, California, but Wednesday afternoon, a Silva representative informed UFC President Dana White that ‘The Axe Murderer’ did not want the fight.

“I really wasn’t holding my breath,” Liddell told UFC.com of the latest implosion of a match against Silva. “I was hoping it happened, but if the guy wanted to fight me, he’d fight me.”

Inter-organizational negotiations eventually broke down, but with the purchase of PRIDE earlier this year by Zuffa, all obstacles were apparently removed from making the bout a reality, which was still highly anticipated by the fight world despite recent losses by Liddell and Silva to Jackson and Dan Henderson, respectively. But after this latest episode, it may be safe to say that Liddell-Silva dream match is going to have to remain just that – a dream.

“You never say it’s never gonna happen, but until you have something signed, you never say it’s gonna happen in this sport,” said Liddell. “It’s just one of those things. Before he had excuses, now he doesn’t. There’s nothing in his way now.”

HEY CHUCKIE, HE WANT’S THE FIGHT IN NOVEMBER, YOU UP FOR THAT OLD MAN!??! OR ARE YOUR HANDLERS THE FERTITTAS AND DANA WHITE TELLING YOU HOW TO WIPE YOUR BUTT TOO?

  12. richard says:

chucks also saying he will fight in september and november

  13. MMAKansas says:

This is all a show of power control, Dana wants to make this happen fast and he is going to lose another contract for a great fighter if he doesn’t shape up.. if he keeps ******** with Wand, Shogun will eventually pull out of the UFC after his contract expires… what then for Dana? He has to learn when to give and and when to take.. he likes to play God too much with these guys’ lives. I think he is better than Dream Stage Entertainment by far with regard to how he treats fighters, but I don’t think he wants Wand to win this thing and is afraid it might happen if Wand has 3 months to train for Chuck specifically.

  14. MMAKansas says:

Things would be so easy if we were all kids, remember back when we would say “meet me by the monkey bars at recess, we are gonna throw down then”! lol… then everyone gathered and yelled fight! While we beat down some mouthy idiot! Good ol’ days ….. wish this was that easy .. lol

  15. bvrasp says:

I noticed some of you guys are saying Wandy doesnt want the fight, others are saying Chuck doesnt want it..

BOTH THESE GUYS WANT TO FIGHT EACH OTHER!

whatever problems that always seem to arise are FINANCIAL in nature. Both these guys are looking to get paid for this fight. Probably the most anticipated fight in mma history.

Kansas made a good point saying bodog should arrange the fight, thats only IF chuck is “allowed”. I dont care where the event is, or if any stupid belts are on the line, the contest itself is enough.

  16. richard says:

hey guys this is off topic but wheres mark hunt?

  17. richard says:

i just read and i bet its old news but nate quarry was kicked of team quest anyone know why?

  18. MMAKansas says:

    @Victoria
Yep, couldn’t agree with you more. Still it would be interesting to watch.

  19. richard says:

chuck would lose anyways HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh im sorry i thought u were saying a joke

  20. VICTORIA says:

@ Richard we talked about this about this at yours house. Chuck would put up a fight but end up loseing at the end of the day

  21. mmahero says:

Chuck vs silva X 1000. Whatever. I know chuck wants to keep active, and him and Dana are buddies. If chuck wants to fight, dana will put him on. Chuck wants to fight in sept, chuck gets to fight in sept. I believe silva was telling the truth. Sept is not the best time for him. he wants to fight in november but chuck can’t wait till november. The truth is both chuck and silva wants to fight each other. No question there. Their problem mainly is to time it right. Silva don’t want to fight in sept and chuck can’t wait till november. I’m sure this fight will go ahead perhaps early next year. Mark my word! Dana is in love with chuck. He will not give silva chuck on november because chuck would have just fought jardine. Dana don’t want his golden boy to lose. Unless maybe Dec. I’m sure chuck will be happy to fight silva even tomorrow. Chuck is a fighting machine but other than that, chuck is real stupid and dana loves that.

  22. Amir says:

HAS ANYONE SEEN THE VIDEO GAME TRAILER ON UFC.COM? it looks absolutely insane!!!

  23. richard says:

    VICTORIA
we didnt talk about this at my house chuck wouldnt lose hes a counter machine and wandy is a wide looping punch machine but kansas u call liddel old but henderson is 37 going on 38

  24. richard says:

    amir

  25. VICTORIA says:

@ Richard this is your daddy nate we both know Chuck isnt ready he never will be

  26. richard says:

why not put nate instead of victoria u idiot, willing to bet a shirt where u at come over

  27. VICTORIA says:

Richard this is daddy nate Chuck isnt ready

  28. richard says:

    nasty nate
wandy is to bulky now hes slower second he comes in wide third why u trying to use ur sisters name ,creepy where u at

  29. MMAKansas says:

    @Richard

Why can’t you accept that Wand would kick Chucks butt? Too bulky slow and wide? That the best you can come up with? You are betting EVERYONE a SHIRT, how bout your next check against mine???? You THAT bold big boy? Think you know enough about the outcome to predict your “monthly check” against my $5k this month?

That’s what I though.. I am sure you will say “that would be irresponsible or your kids this and that” right?

  30. MMAKansas says:

Dana was managing Chuck before Chuck was a champ. That is why Dana’s stories are always so biased, and also why you see them cya on each others web sites. They scheme, then enact. I think that MMAHERO in line 72 is completely accurate.

My prediction if Chuck fights Jardine….

Wand vs Chuck happens February 2008, that is if Chuck can get through Keith… lol … after the loss, people will not fear him as much, that wont bode well for him…

  31. richard says:

    kansas
see u make 5k a month i make 800 dollars a month but im not that confident i dont even like chuck i really perfer wandy but i just think that these guys styles are really good for one another wandy is to bulky making him slower in his last two fights that ended in ko’s u also bring up chucks age henderson is 37 going on 38 and koed him with a left not even his right and unlike cro crop henderson fights at 185 and that night weighed in at 200 so i have a lot to back myself up im not talking out of my azzzzzzz like u think i respect ur decision and i know u respect mine but ill bet a hundred

  32. richard says:

matter of fact KANSAS if this fight happens next year ill bet u 500 dollars i get my income tax back in january u on or what?

  33. bvrasp says:

dam, you guys are crazy! I like Wandy in this fight, but i wouldnt bet $500 on it.. it has nothing to do with confidence, its a fight, anything can happen.. it could be an early stoppage, a no contest, who knows what could happen! ill bet a Tshirt.. cuz i dont really care if i lose.. but your paychecks?? lol calm down guys.. before we start seeing more guys fleeing the site, ala the icefan

  34. mmahero says:

Thanks KANSAS, I know somebody here will see what i see on chuck vs silva saga.

As for chuck vs silva, my prediction is silva wins. I don’t like chuck. Not because he and dana joined at the hip. I couldn’t care less about dana-chuck relationship. I go with silva because chuck is the best striker against wrestler that can strike, not against a fellow striker. If u look at chuck’s record, all his wins were against wrestlers. He lost to the last striker before he was a champ and he lost his belt to a fellow striker in the form of Rampage. All his wins during his champion reign were against ground fighters.

    Reasons of chuck dominance:
    1) He was a wrestler, so he has very good takedown defence
    2) Chuck is difficult to choke because he has short neck. Not to overlook that he has long arms but he also knows enough ju jitsu to get him out of any arms submissions
    3) Chuck has long arms, hence reach advantage. Wrestlers who try to strike most fear opponents reach advantage. They are not skilled enough to overcome that. On top of that, wrestlers are afraid to get hit. So, if wrestlers can’t take u down, if they have to strike with u, wrestlers don’t stand a chance unless lucky punch. To put it simply, chuck is the BEST fighter against wrestlers or wrestlers worst nightmare!
    4) Wrestlers in general don’t have the chin. Maybe except henderson. We will see

    Chuck downfall against silva:
    1) Silva is a striker (just like rampage). Enough said
    2) Chuck’s stand up game has always been a disaster. It just that he is lucky to have faced wrestlers in the majority of his title defence (eg. couture, tito, jeremy horn, babalu etc)
    3) I’ve seen most strikers have better skill than chuck. Even jardine
    4) Silva throw a lot of punches when his oppenent is within reach. One of those could catch chuck. Punchers chance if you like.
    5) Silva not afraid to get hit and he is season enough to overcome chuck’s reach advantage

Striker = MMA fighters that prefer to stand with their opponent rather than having to stand with their opponent because their opponent have better ground game.
Wrestlers = MMA fighters that instinctively take opponent down for ground and pound or submissions and not because their opponent has extremely good stand up game.

  35. mmahero says:

I think to have chuck fighting jardine is a desperate move by dana because chuck could very well lose to jardine. Jardine is a striker/brawler. He is not going to take chuck down for a ground and pound because he knows chuck never stay ‘taken down’. Jardine will strike with chuck and chuck’s striking against a striker will put this fight to 50/50. If chuck lose, it will be very embarrassing for dana. Dana likes to think that chuck is invinsible but somehow i feel he still wakes up with nightmare of rampage fist connected to chuck’s jaw moment. If dana is reading this or smart enough, he should feed a wrestler to chuck. That will nearly guarantee chuck’s win.

  36. richard says:

    mmahero
wandy isnt going to take chuck down so we need not talk about any ground game now u sayhe has a reach advantage and that he throws many punches in ,well doesnt that leave many punches to counter and the same for wandy and chuck u catch one and u might be out.
    BVRASP
im not that confident either but i am confident to bet 100 in 2007 and 500 in 2008 after my income tax comes in Hillbillys problem was he was way to confident in chuck saying there would be no way chuck could lose im saying i think chuck can lose and he might there both very good fighters but iam a betting man

  37. bvrasp says:

you certaily are a betting man rich lol, thats a huge bet on what almost might be a coin flip. I personally give Wandy the edge.. so make it what? 60-40? its still a coin flip, i dont think anyone imagines this fight to be much more than a coin flip. Like i said, not just because of the matchup, but because its a fight!

I like your reasoning of 100 in 2007 and 500 in 2008, we all know 07 is the year of the underdogs, its not even a joke anymore.. its a fact.

  38. richard says:

actually bvrasp i get my income tax check in january febuary and then ill have about 5 grand so to lose 500 dollars wouldnt hurt so much but if it was the year of the under dog shouldnt i bet 5 now if chucks the underdogLOL

  39. bvrasp says:

LOL Rich its a tough call man! thats all i know for sure, either one of these guys can stop the fight in a heartbeat, thats what makes this fight so exciting.

Im not betting on this fight.. but were still on for the Sherk vs BJ hehe

  40. richard says:

for sure and that fight is happening for sure

  41. MMAKansas says:

    @Richard
Ahhh man, you wont ever just “melt” and neither will I.. here’s the deal, I bet 100 Wand wins… you can match that… and we can stop there before DrJ intervenes and informs us that betting online is illegal and we are putting MMAHQ at risk!.. Lol kidding,, but I really don’t bet, however I feel like I could really clean up on this deal, and since I have been running my mouth for so long about this I figured I should back it up. No need for $500 bets, buy your kids some shoes man, forget this… lol $100 is a good bet, but see now I know you aren’t that confident in your boy, otherwise you would have said “heck yeah I will bet you 5K right now… lol

Wand wins … now I am thinking more like round 1 knockout.. lol

  42. richard says:

i have one kid and ur on for a hundred but lets make it double if someone gets koed in the first

  43. mmahero says:

    Richard
Do u actually think chuck’s a great striker? Chuck is hyped up to be a great striker. He has never knockout a fellow striker. Silva has.

The only problem with silva is he throws wild punches every so often and chuck, having reach advantage, could sneak one in to catch him.

I’m not against chuck but I don’t like him too much because he is all hyped up to be better than he actually is. He is the best man to learn from if u have to fight a wrestler. He doesn’t believe in full guard once he is on the ground. He will just try to stand up immediately regardless of what u do to him. In terms of striking, i don’t see chuck as having any edge over silva.

Plus, all chuck’s fight is boring because he is always back paddling. His fight is only interesting if someone comes forward to him a lot. Try watching him fighting jeremy horn 2. If u can’t sleep at night, u put that on, i guarantee u will fall asleep in no time. Rampage got so bored in fighting chuck in the second fight that he has to gesture chuck to come in and engage, remember?

All i want is exciting fight. Chuck’s fight is not. Mark my word. Chuck will never become light heavyweight champion again. I’m not saying that because of his age. I’m saying that because ufc light heavyweight division is filled with striker nowadays eg. Dan henderson, rampage, shogun, lyoto, ?silva etc

I will love to see keith jardine fighting chuck. It’s about time that chuck get exposed. We will probably see a 3 rounds uanimous decision. I hope chuck do win because if he loses, i will be very disappointed that he is so fake. Chuck needs to have at least two wins over decent fellow strikers in a roll to prove that I’m wrong. Whatever the pundit said before between chuck vs rampage ufc 71, I put my money on rampage. I know I will win. See what happen now.

  44. R.J. St.Croix says:

wow there is a lot of Liddell hate going on these days eh? everyone likes to say Chuck is over hyped and hes was never really that good but i dont think that is the whole truth, i think when Liddell was that unbeatable fighter he was just a little ahead of the game and now the rest of the field is catching up. up intill a few months ago people though only one or two fighters had a shot at beating Liddell now people see there is a whole bunch of guys that have a chance and they are saying Liddell sucks. Liddell didnt become a sh*tty fighter everyone else just got better.

  45. richard says:

    mmahero
i respect what u are saying but to say chuck aint no striker come on guy out of twenty wins he has 13 kos but after the head kick to babalou all his fights have ended in either ko or tko so to say now he is a boring fighter no way bud before maybe but not now u know when he steps in the ring somebodys getting koed

  46. richard says:

    GUYS
u know who hella sucks JAMES THOMPSON he got koed in like 13 seconds the guys big for nothing
