Denis KangReports are surfacing today that former PrideFC fighter Denis Kang has signed a contract with K-1 Heros and will be fighting Kazushi Sakuraba on September 17th in Japan.

MMANews.com has a rough translation of a report in Portal do Vale Tudo:

After counting a little of its work as to manager in interview to the Vestibule of the Vale Tudo Magazine, Alex J. Davis entered in contact with us. With the end of Pride, many athletes are migrating for other events, and the fans wanted to know where walked the vice-champion of the Pride Bushido GP at 83kg, Denis Kang. The fighter finishes to sign a contract with the HERO’s and goes to enter in the organization against the former champion of the Pride, always the dangerous Kazushi Sakuraba. The fight will be in day 17 of September, in Kanagawa, in the same show that will count on the ends of the HERO’s.

Earlier this month MMANews.com interviewed Kang and asked him about his future plans. Kang didn’t give any specifics but alluded to the fact that he would be fighting in September and an announcement would be coming soon.

Has one of the best of the remaining PrideFC free agents signed with K-1? A match between Kang and Sakuraba really seems like a joke, but K-1 does have Saku under contract and really doesn’t have any other “big” names for someone like Kang to fight.

    I was hoping the UFC would get Kang. I think he would be the best challanger to Silva’s title. This guys a beast and Heros doesn’t have enough top fighters to give him a challange him. Even if he does go to Heros I bet he eventually gets to the UFC.

    Its a shame.. Sakus over the hill now, as we saw in his last fight with Royce. Riddled with injuries he barely has one good leg to stand on. Hes still one of my favorite fighters of all time and even though hes such a huge underdog in this fight, i gotta stay loyal to my boy Sakuraba. Kang also gets alot of injuries, but hes about 10 years younger than Saku too hehe..

    Hope neither of these guys get hurt during this fight..

    oh man Saku is in for a beating. Why doesnt he realize that his days of being the bad-*** Gracie killer are over. He’s too old, has too many injuries and needs to fight people his own age, not someone like Kang. Denis Kang is gonna give him a brutal beating, and i dont wanna see Saku go out like that :(

    i watch a show about the K-1 event that featured Sakuraba vs. Gracie. it showed Saku checking out the ring (testing the ropes, rolling around on the mat, the normal stuff) he had a lot of issues with the fight. he didnt like that the ropes were too easy to get tangled in and he would have a hard time escaping, they wouldnt allow him to tape his knees he could only wear a sleeve type supporter, he didnt like the amount of vasoline they had to use. i like Saku but you could just see he wasnt 100% confident in him self anymore. i think Saku needs to hang it up now and start training other fighters or something because i dont want to see him go out like Ken Shamrock and get his asss whooped in his last few fights befor he calls it quits.

    God I hope you’re wrong. I guess you don’t watch much mma? The UFC sucks, and their mw class really sucks.
    Hero’s needs about two fighters and they’ve the best mw class in mma.

    I want Kang in Hero’s, but this fight could get savage if it goes down.

    @Richard and BV,

    Sorry about that guys. I didn’t even realize the site had changed styles. I was messing around with some other features earlier today and must have somehow changed the layout to the old original theme. My bad.

    Thanks for saying somthing tough or I probably wouldn’t have noticed it. Everything should be back to normal now.

    @Dr.J
    LOL i just thought you were trying something new LOL

  12. Dr J says:

    Yeah, my bad. There will actually be some style updates for MMA HQ pretty soon when the Top Ten rankings site is launched, but don’t worry, they won’t be as crappy as that one earlier yesterday.

    I was just testing some stuff out for Zach at FightOpinion.com for the new site he is launching and I must have messed something up without realizing it.
