Now that the dust is slowly beginning to settle after UFC 74, I can’t help but look ahead and think about future matchups for the UFC 74 contestants. In particular, let’s talk about Roger Huerta and what might be coming up down the line for him.

In my UFC 74 recap post, I said that I think Huerta is probably only two fights away from getting a title shot. So, the natural line of thinking is, “Who should those next two fights be against?”

I’d like to suggest Clay Guida. Both fighters fought at UFC 74, so the timing and layoff would be the same for both fighters. Both guys are some of the most active and exciting fighters in the lightweight division.

A knock on Huerta has been that the UFC seems to be content in feeding him fighters who are making their UFC debut. On the other hand, Guida has only faced extremely tough opponents since entering the UFC. Guida’s last three UFC fights were against Din Thomas, Tyson Griffin and Marcus Aurelio. Not one single easy fight in that lineup.

Let’s throw these two guys in the cage and see what happens. Roger Huerta will definitely be tested and we’ll see what he is truly made of and how he handles being pressed non-stop for 15 minutes. Clay Guida will be tested as well and be able to show whether or not he can break through and start a decent winning streak. Either way I think it would be a heck of a fight.

What do you guys think? Who would you like to see Huerta fight next? Who would you like to see Guida fight next?

Maybe Huerta will get somebody that atleast has 1 fight in the Octagon for his next fight.

Those are the exact opponents I had in mind. But it wouldn’t look good if their mexican poster boy had somewhat of a chance to lose a fight.

i like all three of these fights for Huerta. but i would have them fight in the opposite order you put.i would have Heurta fight Lauzon then Fisher then Stevenson. i think that would be the perfect way to test him.
