After Chuck Liddell lost to Keith Jardine at UFC 76 last month, it looked like MMA fans might never get to see the once dreamed about matchup between Liddell and Wanderlei Silva.
Had Liddell defeated Jardine, the UFC was set to promote their much-awaited bout between the two fighters on the UFC 79 fight card set for December 29th in Las Vegas. UFC 79 was already slated to be a star-studded event with the welterweight title fight between current UFC champion Matt Serra and former UFC champion Matt Hughes, as well a lightweight title fight between challenger BJ Penn and either Sean Sherk or most likely Joe Stevenson; but adding a Liddell vs Silva fight to that card would easly be the icing on the cake.
After UFC 79, Dana White went so far as to say that the Liddell vs Silva fight was “just not meant to happen,” leading many to believe that the fight was being called off. Most of the MMA community still called for the fight to happen and, in fact, still having the fight in December made more sense than just abandoning it altogether. Was Dana being serious or just his usual, over-dramatic self? It appears the latter might be the case.
Percy Crawford from FightHype.com recently interviewed Liddell’s long-time trainer John Hackleman who stated that they were currently preparing to fight Wanderlei Silva in December.
PC: I know you guys were eyeballing a fight with Shogun, but his knee surgery will prevent that fight from happening. Will you still like to get the Wanderlei fight?
JH: Looks like the Wanderlei fight is going to happen.
PC: Ok, is it still going to be in December?
JH: December, yeah!
So, it appears that Dana White and Joe Silva have come to the same conclusion the rest of the MMA world has and decided to continue on with the fight. If the fight still doesn’t happen this December, I won’t be the least bit surprised, but at least someone close to the situation is hinting that it will take place.

Tito does suck sorry to break it to ya but its true, beating the hell out of an aging Ken Shamrock does not make you good. as far as Chuck and Wandi not matching up well its not a matter of one over the other and thats why people want to see this fight so bad, it the wild puncher vs. the counter puncher. it not going to be like Babalu coming in swinging and get knocked out Wandi is a top notch striker and if he catches Chuck with 1 or 2 and get inside and works the knees its over for Chuck. the whole thing is, can Wandi punch his way inside and knee Chuck to death? can Chuck hang back and catch Wandi napping and put him out? we will see soon enough. the way i see it is in Chucks last 3 fights (Tito, Rampage, Jardine) Chuck striking just wasnt up to snuff and i think Wandi will be able to get inside work the knees and elbows and finish Liddell.

i was watching chuck train for silva and all though i think he is going to win but they had to run a mile and he was the last one to finish i have to agree he does need to get a new training camp but he says he’ll fight untill his body cant handle it anymore He is going to have to train better if he wants to make another run for the title.

Well now that all the Chuck huggers have had their little “I agree with you” ohhhh “I think you are brilliant” ohhhh “I agree with you” patting each other on the back and TRYING to convince YOURSELVES that Chuck will win based on his comments on the fight network… a LOT more than “wandys style” plays into this fight…. for instance, 50% of Chucks training in the past 3 years has been perfecting the sprawl… the guy is impossible to take down and keep down because of it HOWEVER he has not been training his kicks as is evident in his past 4 fights.. the only kick I have seen was against Babalu, and it was a finisher AFTER he had the guy knocked out via punches while standing… the kick didn’t do the job it was the punches boys….

Sure… there is no other MMA org competing with the UFC save M-1 which is only a “potential” competator… however… we may have an issue with perhaps ….. Fedor dropping weight and Shogun going up in a few years…. or perhaps Jackson vs Thiago Alves… there is no answer to your question… you have to close one chapter in order to open another I guess…
