ESPN did a quick phone interview with Randy Couture today about his resignation from the UFC.

i guess it really is all about the money for Randy Couture aswell. No one left for him to fight? Last I looked Noguera i ranked higher than him to. Theres plenty of guys out there to fight and now its not gonna happen.
Answer me this… why does a boxer get 30 million a fight, that a champion by the way, and a guy like Couture gets 250k? I mean, the UFC makes above and beyond what boxing is making now… or WWE, yet guys like Mike Tyson and Hulk Hogan got much more per “MATCH” or “FIGHT” if you want to call it that… I seriously think Coutures stepping down really has sent a strong message and if Dana/Zuffa doesn’t get it, they may get that message again and again over and over, how many times can the UFC afford to have their titles vacated… it’s happened frequently in the UFC since ZUFFA and its embarrassing especially when the champs are doing ESPN interviews and just telling it straight out…. they need pay increases that match what Wrestling and Boxing are doing… its all about the fighters, not the announcers, or the lights, or the production, heck id watch Couture in a back alley fighting… and PAY FOR IT… lol

How will that be accomplished though? its not like theyre gonna say, you know what, lets give these guys more money, its unheard of. Randy is taking action on the problem personally, is it the right move, i dunno, but hes doing something atleast. Other sports have been around so long, they have guaranteed fans and followings like football seasons on TV for example. MMA has just been accepted as a sport within the last 10 years, its been growing strong and it took a huge bite out of boxings azzz. Thing is it takes time..

Agreed…. things take time.. they don’t come in multiples usually its one at a time.. thing is Randy has laid a foundation that other smaller or lesser known fighters couldn’t…
Dana White won’t be around forever by the way, people associate him with this permanence in MMA like he “belongs” or something.. the guy has been in MMA for less than 10 years…. he is a boxing guy originally, that is why he has been avoiding promoters ect, calls them names because he knows the game and knows with them in the game fighters will get what they deserve, right now with the setup like WWE, he is the “Vince McMahon” of MMA and gets to be dictator of fighter salaries and salary caps ect. The guy is a real arse because he is basically working AGAINST his own people in order to make the UFC super profitable, and that would mean the owners and himself, he is truly the picture of big business and screw the little man, the little man being the blood of the sport, the fighters..
I know I know, he made the UFC what it is today so that give him and the ownership a pass on this because without them there would be no yada yada yada… shut up.. bullcrap.. whatever… they need to fix the problems… no pass… good for Randy
Again, I’m going to sound like a broken record but…RANDY SIGNED THE DEAL. Its not like he was working without a contract. HE SIGNED THE DEAL. If he didn’t like the deal, he shouldn’t have signed it.
Randy has no one to blame but himself.
Well you got a point there Jason, the question is, do you think these guys should make more money? and how can that ulmimately be achieved?
Dana lied to Randy… look in Docs previous fighter payouts posts, these are official and issued by the state athletic associations.. Cro Cop WAS indeed making more per fight than Randy… it was more about respect just like he said…
I personally don’t see how Randy even has a “movie career”. That cannot be serious or lead anywhere in the long-run. As far as this whole thing goes, it a double-edged sword. Paying guys more money, as in every other major sport, does not necessarily mean that they will put on better performances. By keeping a specific payout structure, fighters are awarded based on their performance and are able, through that, to win many bonuses (ex.”fight of the night”). On the other hand, paying these guys who sacrifice so much too little, and they start to hate you and never want to do business with you. In my opinion, this whole M1 fiasco could be the best thing to ever happen to MMA. Finally, a fighter can give the UFC a big “F U” and go fight somewhere else.
