EliteXC held a media conference call yesterday afternoon for their upcoming fight card scheduled on November 10 in Texas.
On the call, EliteXC President Gary Shaw announced that the promotion will now officially add three new weightclasses. The new weightclasses will be 140 lbs, 150 lbs, and 160 lbs in addition to the existing 170 lbs, 185 lbs, 205 lbs, and 265 lbs divisions. Shaw said that each weightclass will crown a champion over the next year.
The 160 lbs division, which will be called the “lightweight” division will feature its first title match on the Nov. 10 card when Nick Diaz fights KJ Noons. Much speculation was made when the 160 lb title fight was announced and many assumed that EliteXC was catering to Nick Diaz and “creating” a weightclass just to offer him a title fight. Shaw said that the new weightclasses are being added for fighter health and safety and that he will approach the athletic commission in the near future to have the new classes officially sanctioned and recognized.

Oh no you didnt Richard lol. I can agree with Kansas 100% here, that was a really dumb statement. Wand fought the best that pride had to offer man, and they had alot to offer. Just because a guy isnt well rounded, doesnt mean hes not a good fighter. Like Yoshida for example, hes not well rounded, but hes was one of the best Judo practitioners in the world, the pride of Japan. Sakuraba, again the guys legendary in Japan, i shouldnt even have to get into it.
Its a more recent thing where guys are now training in mma, instead of a couple disciplines. Like when chutebox was dominating, they had strong BJJ fighters with next level Thai skills. Pretty well rounded, but the TUF guys are basically NEW AGE fighters, training boxing, wrestling, thai and BJJ. Its not just the TUF guys, but any young fighter whos looking to get into the sport, its just a standard now. TUF guys are proving they are no joke man, atleast the ones who are serious about fighting.
The difference with old school fighters like Wandy is they got the experience man. Trust me, when it comes to fighting Wandys been there done that, theres no position that will surprise him etc. Look how well Randy did, thats all experience and strategy and ofcourse the cardio to get it done.

The fact is… I have been calling Chuck out on “strikers” since I got here…. and have been right so far, yet you are the naysayer that keeps on with comment degrading the most INTENSE fighter in MMA.
I guess we will know whats up on December 29th, I mean either guy has a knockout chance to win, but I am going with Wand for previously mentioned reasons. ive heard a few people say this and i just dont get it, everyone who has watched MMA for 5 or more years SHOULD want to see this fight happen. Chuck vs. Wandi has always been a huge P.P.V. waiting to happen. its the baddest LHW in the UFC vs. the baddest LHW in PRIDE, how can you not be pumped about it. forget for a min they both have 2 losses and just entertained by these two. i dont know about anyone else but ive been waiting years to see these two fight and i dont care if they 22 losses each as long as they fight each other.

I totally understand your point patrick, but Dana promised we would see the matches that have been burining in our minds and on our blogs for as long as he has been in negotiations with Pride before they purchased and after….. a promise is a promise, and from my view, this fight is gonna be so awesome, its like Ali vs Marciano, it never happened, but people wondered about it and still do today, well this is MMA’s version and we DO GET TO SEE IT…. nothing can top that man… I agree with RJ on this …

Richard, what did that breakdown mean? that Wandy hasnt fought strikers? some of the guys you mentioned have striking ability man.. just because theyre known for their grappling, doesnt mean they cant strike.

Richard, this doesnt mean what you think it means.. you cant just look at a guys record and say.. oh this guys not a striker. Metzger only had 8 tko and more submissions LOL just cuz he has more subs doesnt mean hes not a striker. Guys like Otsuka and Fujita, theyre renown wrestlers, but that doesnt mean they cant strike man! its not all about how many KOs you have, how many times do i have to say it.
crocop was already a legend when he came to mma, he beat the best K1 had to offer, he was no rookie man. Hes a striker, coming to mma made no difference.. did you see him shooting on guys at any time in his carreer? no, he hasnt changed since the K1 days, with the exception of a bit of sprawling.. THATS IT. Its a poor excuse to say he was a rookie.

Besides what their opponents MOSTLY do in fights, i think Wandy fought and beat tougher competition than Chuck did over the years. That doesnt mean his opponents SUCK like some people like to say. I just think Wandy fought the tougher guys, thats all.

Thats good to hear Richard, i know your not stupid, but atleast you agree that it was a stupid point.. by both you and Kansas.. they both fought guys who were more known for their grappling skills.
What can we do? grapplers had more success in mma than strikers did in the early days. Because once they close the distance and get the takedown, the striker is finished. A few select fighters and camps were well rounded before it became popular, and they reaped the rewards. The fact is, Chuck and Wandy both fought whoever was put in front of them and they both had great carreers.
The reality of it now is that these guys are quickly becoming dinosaurs, if not because of modern training methods, then certainly because of wear and tear over the years. Theyre among the pioneers of the sport, gracies, shamrocks, chutebox and takada dojo, ALL THESE GUYS DESERVE THEIR RESPECT MAN.

Check out Royce Gracie vs Dan Severn man.. now they can both be seen as very well decorated grapplers with one major difference Dan Severn was 90 POUNDS HEAVIER than Royce. You know what happened? Royce submitted him after already finishing 2 other guys that night cuz it was tourney style.

Ya, that could happen Todd. Though personally im betting on Wandy in this fight, heres the way i see the fight going.
Firstly, we know Chuck is not gonna try and shoot for a takedown, so Wandy will be able to work his leg kicks without having to worry about compromising the balance. Chuck hasnt had to deal with leg kicks for a long time, and Wandy is.. lets say more than adept at throwing them lol.
Secondly, Wandy has alot more tools than Chuck, the kicks, knees, elbows and clinch game that Chuck never uses. These are Wandys bread and butter and we can see the students in his camp are so successful using the same techniques.. like shogun or Anderson Silva.
So whats Chuck got? Chucks got the better hands, hands down lol. If this was a stright boxing match, i think chuck would win. Combine his precise striking, movement and KO power with possibly the best takedown defense in the game and you get Chuck Liddell. Thats what hes got going for him, considering that Wandy is not going for a takedown either, that narrows Chucks advantages to half. Then its Chucks hands vs Wandys hands, feet, elbows and clinch.
If for some reason it DOES go to the ground, Chucks got great wrestling and Wandy has great BJJ.

And yea i think the fight will be somewhat of a chuck/babalou 2 scenario when they were just throwin punches trying to kill each other but in this one somebody is gonna get their head knocked off. And im hoping its wandy, mainly because i want chuck to win this fight, challenge rampage again with/or without the belt. THEN retire!!!!
