Sean Sherk Will Keep Lightweight TitleEveryone’s favorite bald journalist has an interesting article up today at Yahoo Sports. According to Kevin Iole, Dana White has announced that the UFC will not be stripping Sean Sherk of his lightweight title belt, regardless of the final outcome of Sherk’s appeal before the California State Athletic Commission.

Sean Sherk is going to remain the UFC’s lightweight champion, but B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson will fight for a lightweight belt at UFC 80 in January in Newcastle, England, UFC president Dana White said Friday.

White said he’s not going to strip Sherk of his lightweight championship because he is fed up with the California Athletic Commission’s handling of Sherk’s steroids case.

White had vowed to strip Sherk of the title, but said Friday that he no longer plans to do so.

“The way this whole thing has been handled has been a mess,” White said.

He said Penn and Stevenson, who said he learned on Tuesday that he and his wife will have another son, will fight for the interim title as the main event of UFC 80 in Newcastle, England, likely on Jan. 19.

The winner of that bout would then presumably face Sherk once Sherk’s status is defined by the commission.

Zach Arnold over at FightOpinion.com raises some good discussion about Dana White and the UFC opposing the CSAC’s ruling on this matter.

To me the bigger question is what is the point of having multiple title-holders in the same division? If Sherk is going to retain his title, there is no “interim” title even available for BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson to fight for at UFC 80 in January. In addition, the CSAC didn’t exonerate Sherk yet; his appeal was simply postponed again until November 13. What happens in two weeks when Sherk could possible have his appeal denied. The UFC is then going to let Sherk, a “convicted” steroid user, retain his title while still holding a so-called “interim” title fight at UFC 80?

Does any of that even make sense at all? I’m not sure I’ve heard of a more illogical statement come from Dana White in quite a long time. Now, I don’t completely believe that the UFC won’t strip Sherk’s title. This is just Iole’s word on the matter, something I hold in very low regard. I won’t be surprised in the least when the UFC decideds to strip Sherk’s belt on November 14.

He gutted the military, he never responded to terrorist attacks, and he drained our tech stocks by pushing for tax increases and higher rates on that end of the stock spectrum, but all you see Patrick is “everyones shopping, let the good times roll, lets all smoke a J with Bill and nothing is wrong or right” … that is the mark of a jaded generation that cares not about principle, heritage, or ethics, only of the temporal pocketbook, and a national ambiance of “whatever feels good is okay”.. but hey, like Winston Churchill once said “If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart. I have to say that it bothers me immensely when I see fighters that work hard at their craft/sport…lose to a guy that uses “helper” drugs…look at Sherk – freakishly huge ice cream cone muscle shape…its bullsh**…take a look at the natural talents: BJ, Stevenson, KFlo…they look slim, trim, and perform with amazing technique…yet they lose because they are “overpowered”…not by a fighter but by “helper” drugs the fighter is ingesting. Makes me sick.

I’ll go on record…take a close look at Houston Alexander, I’d eat my own wolf sh** if we didn’t find out eventually that he was juicing as well. People just don’t look that way naturally. Sorry.

I wouldn’t go so far to call out fighters I am not 100% sure about, but I would have to agree with you for the most part, as far a juicers go… I have NO respect for them and think the UFC should start dropping contracts and resigning at PUNISHMENT level money to let them know they are not happy ..

  8. bvrasp says:

I think a guy can be cut like Houston without using roids, but when you look at Sherk, the guys veins are about to pop man. Look at it as cars, say your not allowed to use nitro in a race, but your gonna try and use everything thats allowed and overdo it. Next thing you know your at 1000 horsepower! so with Sherk, he hasnt technically used steroids, but hes duplicated the effects steroids would have using products that would be considered legal in mma. The end result is his 1000 horsepower testosterone level which isnt naturally occuring, it was engineered.

The whole idea of drug testing is that all athletes are on an even keel.. Whats next? guys with cybernetic arms that can just grab a guys leg and crush it? technically it wouldnt be steroids, so does that make it acceptable? nooo…

Sherk fcked around and he got caught, bottom line..

Talking about Houston.. i just read up some stuff about him.

Yet in addition to sometime 10 hour shifts in the summer heat, Alexander – then the father of five – had more troubling issues on his mind. His oldest child, 10 year old daughter Elan, was born with a kidney dysfunction, and now the kidney was starting to give out on her. The decision he made next wasn’t tough for him, but it was monumental – he was tested and was a match for his daughter. Soon after, he gave Elan his kidney. A week later, he was back at work.

“I wouldn’t want to disappoint people like that,” said Alexander when talking about ‘going Hollywood’. “I have a lot of people looking up to me, specifically the kids, and I have a whole community of people who stand behind me, so I have to watch what I say and watch what I do because I consider myself a role model. I don’t care what other professional athletes say when they say ‘oh, I’m not a role model.’ Yes you are, because there are a lot of kids who pattern themselves as a Michael Jordan or a Walter Payton. And I’m not a perfect guy, but I’m gonna try to do my best to guide a lot of individuals that are looking up to me.

NOW TO ME, THATS A STAND-UP DUDE, HUMBLE AND RESPECTFUL. I THINK HE WOULD MAKE A BETTER CHAMP THAN MATT SERRA AT THIS POINT. BUT WHO KNOWS PEOPLE CHANGE..

Wow… that is great man… yeah sans the comment I made regarding this “I wouldn’t go so far to call out fighters I am not 100% sure about” because I don’t know enough about the man to say such things.. I have seen bums with good genes living on the streets of Dallas Texas with a better physique than me living off of spare change so who the heck knows… but he is fighting with one kidney, and he is a black man in America working hard to feed his kids taking up the role of Role Model which is more than I can say for some NFL, (Bill Belecheck) NBA, (kobe bryant) or other professional sports orgs/athletes ..

I have access to footage from a few Sherk fights from only a couple years ago…he’s nearly doubled in size in that time. Everyone, just 9 months ago was talking about what a great guy Sherk is/was and just how powerful and “strong” he is/was. He was close to being canonized. I thought back then, “just wait…eventually, he’s going to be tested and he won’t be ready for it”…and voila: positive for “enhancers”.

Alexander, a very VERY nice guy. Great fighter, knockout power from the clinch…however, freakish “comic book” muscular structure and thighs that are comparable to a horse’s thighs. I’m not saying he’s “cut” or “well defined” like a genetically blessed homeless guy. I’m saying he’s got muscles that are consistent with steroid or “enhancer” use.

I love that he’s a father of 6 and is physically hindered but still fights. I love that he considers himself a role model. Everyone was saying what a great role model Sherk was when he called out the Boxing champ. Yet…

I’m just watching Houston’s test results carefully, thats all I’m saying.

Because my last 2 posts come off as considerably negative and accusatory, I feel its necessary to post something positive about
some fighters in the 205lb class: Guys with knock out power that
have natural muscle tone and have accomplished much in MMA/UFC with out the apparent use of ‘helpers’:

    1. Chuck Lidell
    2. Keith Jardine
    3. Quinten Jackson
    4. Forrest Griffin
    5. Dan Henderson
    6. Shogun Rua
    7. Rashad Evans
*8. Michael Bisping (although I don’t think he has much KO power)
    9. Nogueira

I will also say that there have been guys without the “comic book” build that have tested positive for roids: Stephen Bonnar and Hermes Franca. So I’m not making any dogmatic statements, just expressing some strong suspicions.

Not me guys, never been to jail.. the closest ive come is a holding cell which doesnt really count. Although i already know what its about since alot of my friends were criminals and a few been sent away for a long time now. I dont even talk to these people anymore, we picked different paths and parted ways long ago.

This one kid at my school, i used to chill with him all the time, the crew was all around 17 and he was 15. Quiet kid, never said much, just hung out smokin with the boys. Next thing i know, he was caught with a sawed off shotgun and a sht load of small bills and cigarrette cartons in a stolen car. He robbed 4 gas stations and i never heard from that guy again..

I got sent off to the army in my country for a year and it was TOUGH man! a rugged army, in a poor country, besides regular infantry stuff, it was mostly a regiment of starvation and sleep deprivation. On the plus side! i had my own machinegun, G3, which i had to surrender after being discharged

**Cool side note, in call of duty 4, the G3 is available!! the closest ive come to being reunited with my baby.. dam i miss my G3 :(

LOL ya, you bond with your weapon man.. i would have slept with it if i was allowed. They kind of instill that in you, like the rule where nobody can touch your weapon. Even if the general of the army requests it you dont give it up, and if he trys to take it, your authorized to whoop his azzz if you have to. Ofcourse if you DO manage to lose your weapon, your in a world of sht.

When you live in the country, once your done your army service, you get to keep your gun and a whole drum of ammo. The reason being that right now theyre in a state of “cease fire” so war could break out, and everyone defends their own home with their weapon. Also the reason that EVERYONE in the country has to go to the army, errr.. all the men anywyas.. no women there.

So it kind of sucks that i had to give it up, wish i could of brought it with me to canada hahaha. Imagine someone trys to mug you? thats not a gun! this is a gun! :)

i love my snub nose 357 ,cant be letting those shells go everywhere if u know what i mean[/quote]

you have a 357 Richard? dam thats crazy! sadly we werent allowed to play with handguns, they were only for officers. Because i was considered a foreigner i wasnt allowed to have any rank, not even PFC. On the plus side! i got to fire a .50 cal an rpg and a bazooka! dam that thing is sick! takes 2 guys to shoot it, one to hold the weapon and aim, the other guy on his knees holding the guy around the waist to brace him lol.

You get any man love in that there jail??? lol kidding man.. I have never been to jail except when I worked K-9Unit a few years back in Dallas… I have been shot at, I have arrested and chased down rapists, drug dealers, and weird homos but thats about that.. on the lighter side, I am 2-1 on Fight night and will not fight Light weight anymore…. got my tail kicked 2 nights ago and have been having nightmares ever since..

The UFC has posted a new highlight reel for UFC 79 of a certain fight that NOOOBODY on this site wants to even mention … but the freaking trailer rocks so check it out.

    http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=fighter.detail&pid=116

you have to go to the bottom right of the screen to ‘related media” and click on Highlights of Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva

yea Kansas, Pretty cool, though i would have changed a few things, like right at the end where it shows Wandy scream, it should have had the Chuck scream too.. i dunno i was waiting for it but it never came. LOL they show it a million times though…

  34. MMAKansas says:

Yeah BV.. thats okay… Chuck will be screaming on fight night….. .FOR HIS MOMMY! HAHAHA ! Kidding… I know I am gonna generate enough traffic from that comment to put DrJ in a Benz… lol

I dunno, i know the topic is waaaay worn out… but man that fight is ALL I am looking forward to in the way of sports events coming up… its the end all to be all for me… I like both fighters, (one more than the other) and it is gonna be explosive… not some dryhump like the Serra/Hughes fight, which will be nice but i see in my little mma world as a side note to what I consider a more important fight and more entertaining fight… c’mon gotta admit it, when they are in the cage face to face… the excitement, uneasiness, the energy will be consuming… it will def be the fight to watch in December.. all others will pale in comparison when the night gets here… in the mean time we have Bisping vs Evans.. oh gosh, I think I got excited… hmmmm nope that was just gas… oh well..

Oh hell ya, forget about the event of the year, i think this is without question the most anticipated fight in mma history, bar none! I cant see this being a boring fight for any reason, these guys are both gonna be swinging for the fences. I cant see them getting tired and going to a decision.. someones getting caught man.. most likely in the first round, if not in the first minute.

Dont think even for a second that your even a tiny bit more excited than i am! lol. This is the sht right here! i cant believe its finally happening.. ITS GO TIME BABY!!

  37. bvrasp says:

Uhh thanks for the excitement BV… I was talking about “Fight Night” like the xbox 360 game.. lol… sorry man should have made that clearer…

I fight at 185, and I am walking at 191 right now, no way anyone would let me go lightweight… haha but it would be fun if they did hehe..

  39. MMAKansas says:

Tell you what though, i can send doc a pic of my flying side kick from back when I was a little lighter… you guys wouldn’t believe it if you saw it that it was me… but I doubt DrJ would be interested in posting something like that haha.. really its about 8 1/2 feet in the air and pretty incredible i was 17 when my brother caught it on camera.. I ended up doing it for Ringside catalogs and some Martial arts magazine too…

Ya i could imagine, better than the feeling of winning a sparring match hehe.

  49. MMAKansas says:

No sparring…. real full contact fighting…. I have gotten to “Spar” with Superfoot Bill Wallace, back when he was hosting UFC 1 .. ect.. I got to “Spar” with Joe Lewis, I am talking about hitting your opponent full force with the intent of putting a new impression on their chin… of your fist.. lol
