Sean Sherk Stripped of UFC Lightweight Belt

With no fanfare at all, the UFC has finally stripped Sean Sherk of his UFC Lightweight belt after the final ruling by the California State Athletic Commission in Sherk’s steroid case. This is perhaps the first smart move the UFC has made the whole Sherk ordeal.

With all the hype for “huge announcements” during last nights TUF 6 finale, the news of Sherk losing his lightweight title didn’t seem to warrant any coverage.

The title fight between BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson currently scheduled for UFC 80 will now be for the vacant title and no longer be for an “interim” lightweight title.

.. surprising that they went that far after all the “interim” hype…. but agree with the decision and look forward to the Penn vs Stevenson fight… Sherk will get another shot in a year so whatever..

  2. richard says:

i think sherk will got a shot sooner than a year

I don’t only because I think the winner of the Penn vs Stevenson fight will be fighting Kenny Florian… me thinks.. but who knows what goes in the mind of the Joe…..

I wish Marcus Davis would take a division step down and fight in the lw division although as the welters get thinner he will eventually be a contender… anyone noticing this guy besides me.. his fights are erratic and exciting.. I thought his fight with Paul Taylor was the best one on the card on UFC 75 he took sooo much punishment only to come back with a stunner submission… crazy…

Marcus Davis, ya he was one of the TUF fighters, hes developed a half decent wrestling game since the show which helps him with the takedown defense so he can work his boxing. Hes a bit too old to fully round himself out tho.. but ya hes had some exciting fights.

Yep.. well most of them.. the ones that looked interesting… the main fight between Huerta and Hippie was goood… but without the whole season drama build up it kinda didn’t hold much importance to me .. sucks I don’t wanna buy cable JUST for spikes TUF show.. its like more than a ppv just to watch weekly episodes of TUF..

  11. bvrasp says:

Ya i hear you Kansas.. thats why i was saying you should just download the episodes and watch them on your computer man..

Have you managed to get the torrents working that we talked about a while back?

I wouldnt recommend watching season 6 tho.. it was pretty boring.. my favorite was the comeback, i think that was season 4.

Yeah .. I had cable for all seasons cept this one… I “own” or am beginning to own all the TUF seasons.. got one of those “all you can rent’ passes at Blockbuster so I just order them in sequence and uhhh.. i have them by some weird happening .. even after I turn them back in… strange … anyways.. yeah..

I think its premature to put Forrest in there as a tough coach… however I think it will be good for the “ratings” .. what say you?

ya i also mentioned that about Forrest as a coach yesterday, theres alot of guys i would put before him. Ofcourse the idea is to have the coaches fight at the end of the season to boost rating, then its a title match so that should boost it even more. Especially after the big letdown Hughes vs Serra which was the same scenario including the title being on the line.

Besides that stuff, Danas talking about how this season should shake things up, im curious to see what they will be doing different this time. Theyve made a lot of good changes since TUF 1, like getting rid of the dumb challenges and all that generic reality show crap.

Any idea of what they might be doing different this time? i really have no idea myself..

hmmmm. maybe their re-implementing the challenges and generic reality show crap.. .hehe just a thought… TUF one set the pace, this year sucked, maybe they feel they need to put it back in there, even though I agree with you that it would \”suck it up\” ..

Hmmmm……. I don’t think so scooter.. hehe I think he will get whooped.. taken down and whooped.. only thing that would hinder that would be if Rampage succumbed to an injury pre fight like Shogun did..

THATS CRAZY ..I NEVER SAW FOREST EVER GETTING A TITLE SHOT

  21. Ozzy says:

Stevenson will dominate BJ Penn, it will be just like the Hughes/BJ 2. Joe Daddy will prove to be too strong for BJ.

Rampage will beat the crap out of Forest.
