Tim Sylvia Ready for UFC 81 Title Fight

Get ready UFC fans, it appears that Tim “the Maine-iac” Sylvia will once again be fighting for the UFC Heavyweight title. Sylvia will fight for the belt for the ninth time; this time against Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueria.

According to Sylvia’s manager Monte Cox,

Tim signed the contract, and we haven’t heard anything else about it — if Nogueira has signed his contract or what.

Cox said that Tim had already begun training for the fight under the assumption that Nogueria would sign the contract as well.

Nogueria was already next in line for a title shot in the heavyweight division, but some suspected that the UFC might have Cheick Kongo fight for the belt before Sylvia got another crack at it. Instead, according to Loretta Hunt at TheFightNetwork, Kongo will most likely face off against Team Punishment fighter, Justin McCully at UFC 81. McCully has not yet officially accepted the bout offer yet however.

Go Big Nog. I think Nog gets the fight to the ground and submits Tim. Tim might have a slight advantage on the feet but Nog has a cast iron chin so I don’t think Tim will KO him or anything. Nog had a little trouble in his last fight with Herring but I think he has learned from it and we won’t see the same thing happen here. Tim’s tough and it should be a good fight but I think Nog will catch him with a submission eventually. I still wish Randy would have accepted the fight with Big Nog it would have been more interesting.
