Tito Ortiz vs Lyoto Machida?

Ken Pishna at MMAWeekly.com is reporting that the UFC has offered light heavyweight Lyoto Machida a fight against Tito Ortiz.

Ed Soares, Lyoto’s manager, told Pishna that Machida has accepted the fight against the former light heavyweight champion and they are awating Ortiz’s response to the fight offer.

“It would be an honor to fight such a legend as Tito Ortiz,” said Machida. “I would like to see how my technique matches up against his.”

Machida is coming off another solid victory at UFC 79 against Rameau Sokoudjou via submission in the second round and still has an undefeated record of 12-0.

Oritz last fought at UFC 73 last July where he fought to a draw against Rashad Evans. Currently, Ortiz only has one fight left on his current deal with the UFC and Ortiz has stated he is dealing solely with Lorenzo and Frank Fertita on an extension.

My guess that Tito would not accept a fight with someone like Machida unless he already has a contract extension in place. Fighting Machida as the last fight on his deal would not be a very risky move for Ortiz.

    Doc,
Don’t you mean it WOULD be a risk for Tito to fight Machida as the last fight on his contract??

  2. Dr J says:

thanks. good catch. originally I was planning on saying it would not be a very smart move.

You guys see Celebrity apprentice? I never watched the other apprentice shows because i hate Trump, its one thing to be rich, but hes a real **** head.

Well i watched the first episode, the only reason being that Tito and Lennox Lewis are on the show. Tito spent most of the time working the mitts with Lennox, maybe by the end of the show he might learn something.

Also i dont think he’ll fight Machida at this point, hes in the reality show and everything, i know theyre pre recorded and everything, but still. Thats a long time to be out of shape, then step into the octagon with someone as hungry as Machida.

I think Tito will hold out and wait for the rematch with Rashad. More hype with Rashad than Machida, and we all know what Titos about.. Lets face it guys, hype generates ppv buys.

Titos doing the best thing if you ask me, his style of fighting is quickly becoming obsolete and hes trying to make as much money as possible. Hes not gonna get paid by losing a bunch of fights to young fighters who are looking to use him as a stepping stone. Talk ish for about 6 months, then have a fight, win or lose, your getting paid.
