Today's Mixed Martial Arts News and Analysis Headquarters

mdflag_lg2.jpgKirill Reznick, a Democrat from Montgomery County, has introduced House Bill 795 bill to the Maryland State House that would legalize professional mixed martial arts competitions in the state.

Reznick is a 20 year student of Chinese Kempo and sponsored the House Bill along with 18 other state lawmakers.

Reznick says all of the states surrounding Maryland, except for West Virginia, allow the fights. And lawmakers in Michigan signed off on a similar bill last year.

Reznick’s bill would only allow a person to participate in a mixed martial arts competition if the State Athletic Commission licenses that person. The licensee would also have to be examined by a specified physician under specific circumstances and the person would have to provide documented evidence of certain medical tests.

Eventually MMA will be legal in all the states. The shows are going on anyway might as well regulate them and make it safer for the competitors.

if you have ever bought UFC ticket (or any other tickets for that matter) for the sole perpose of making money off the real fans then you are a scum bag and should be ahamed of your self… sorry i just had to put that out there. i would give my left nut to Montreal to see UFC 83 but most of the tickets were bought up by scalpers and its hard for a father of six to spend $300 on a $52 ticket. i will probably still suck it up and drop the big cash for A ticket and go alone insted of take my Dad and i WILL beat the holy hell out of the first scalper i see at the Bell center.

      I hear you.

I’m afraid of what the prices are going to be like once they actually do come here to Boston

      • MAD says:

I was quite surprised how cheap the tickets here in Denver were. I fully expected them to do Pepsi center and charge Vegas prices. To my surprise they decided to do a small venue and had reasonable prices. I was able to get 7 rows from the floor mid cage for $150. The market here is probably a lot smaller though.

  3. R.J. St.Croix says:

no doubt man i hope for your sake you dont have to go through the same sh*t i am i just spent the last hour with to laptops and a phone franticly trying to get even one of the last few tickets that when on sale today and i didnt stand a snowballs chance in hell of getting one. its pretty bad when a room full of people can even come up with one ticket. f*ck you ebay and all you scubbag scalper members

    • MAD says:

That sucks man. I know a few of you guys here are Canadians and to not be able to go to the first event there is teribble. The Canadian fans are obviously very passionate and it’s a shame scalpers are ruining the chances of true fans to get tickets. You may have to throw down the extra $75 and become a UFC member and have access to presale tickets. Sounds like those went fast also but at least there are a lot more available. It probably would be just as cheap to fly to Vegas to attend an event. It wouldn’t be the same as it being in your home country but Vegas is definetely a fun city to party in before and after the fights.

For the Diego Sanchez fans out there, like me, theres a nice interview at mmamania. Doesnt say much about his upcoming fight besides thats the only guy who would step up and fight him. Other than that, he talks about his recent losses and plans for the future.

    http://mmamania.com/2008/02/08/their-worst-nightmare-mmamaniacom-exclusive-interview-with-ufc-welterweight-diego-sanchez/

    • MAD says:

I read the interview also and I hope he rededicates himself and gets back to performing at the level we have seen him in the past. I’m a huge fan because like Condit we are all from Albuquerque. His last couple of fights were disappointing but I think we will see him get back on the winning track his next fight. The loss to Kos was the most disappointing because they didn’t even fight. At least with Fitch they were transitioning BJJ and trying to finish. I hope he gets his head straight and comes back and shows the potential he has.

  5. PATRICK says:

diego good fighter… but a little weird lol

  6. bvrasp says:

Hey guys, heres the main card of EliteXC show this coming saturday.

Tank Abbott (9-13) vs. Kimbo Slice (1-0)
Ricco Rodriguez (27-7) vs. Antonio Silva (9-1)
Kyle Noke (13-4-1) vs. Scott Smith (14-4)
Yves Edwards (32-13-1) vs. Edson Berto (13-4-1)
Brett Roges (7-0) vs. James Thompson (14-7)

Some very interesting matchups, while no top 10 fighters are competing, there is sure to be some entertaining fights. Especially Ricco vs Antonio Silva, we get to see if Ricco still got the stuff that champs are made of taking on that Monster! though he hasnt had much luck in his career against huge guys.

Ofcourse Tank and Kimbo is just gonna be a slugfest and considering the BAS factor, im definately leaning towards Kimbo. Im sure hes been training hard and hes hungry, he really wants to prove to the world that hes a real fighter. Tank on the other hand, is lucky to be on the main event, nice payday for Tank, but i cant see him lasting too long toe to toe with Kimbo at his age.

  7. MAD says:

Everyone thinks the Tank vs Kimbo fight is going to be a standup war. I personally think Tank will want to stand and trade but my guess is that Kimbo will take him down and try and submit him. Working with Bas they have to be training submissions and game plan. I think Kimbo will take the advise and try and defeat Tank on the mat.

    • bvrasp says:

Thats a good point Mad, i think Kimbo would dfinately have the edge on the ground because of Bas, and we all know Tank has no ground game, so it would be a great strategy. The thing is, they start standing and Tank has some takedown defense, you dont wanna get KOed by Tank trying to shoot.

I think its gonna be a slugfest and if it goes to the ground and Kimbos on top, he will probably work his GnP instead of fumbling around for a submission which hes still very new at.

  8. PATRICK says:

o well kimbo wins who gives a ****… hes fighting a ****** fighter…. elite needs to pull a lesner mir type fight… put kimbo up against someone whos actually a good ***** fighter!!

  9. PATRICK says:

man this site is slowin down

  10. bvrasp says:

Ya thats true Patrick, but theres not much going on right now, like another 3 weeks until the next UFC event. I know Doc and some guys watch WEC, it doesnt interest me though. You notice all these smaller organizations have dominant champs that nobody can beat? cuz theres no competition..

Its the big fish in a small pond thing.. Condit or Razor Rob wouldnt make it in the UFC.. neither would Faber.. thats why i dont see how people can rank them in the top 10.

    • MAD says:

I think the WEC has some exciting fighters. They may not all be at the UFC level but entertaining none the less. Their product is much better than the IFL in my opinion. Faber is a beast you must not watch his fights or you would have a different opinion of him. Even for a 145lb fighter I think he can hang with almost any lightweight in the UFC. You being an avid MMA fan a figured you would watch all MMA events available like most of us. It’s hard to not like free live MMA events even if it’s not the UFC. Alot of these guys fight their hearts out trying to make an impression so they can get to the big shows. I personally think the UFC has done some great work with the WEC since they bought them. I’m looking forward to this event obviosly because I am traveling to New Mexico tomarrow to see it live.

      • Dr J says:

Have a great trip MAD and enjoy the show. Should be an excellent event.

        • MAD says:

Thanks man, I’ll have my digital camera with me and I have good seats so I’ll be sending you some pics next week. Hopefully I can get some good ones to share.

      • bvrasp says:

        @Mad

I tried watching WEC, IFL, HCF, etc.. stuff thats on TV for free. I have to admit there are some good fights sometimes but overall the fighters dont interest me. Feels like watching college sports as opposed to Pro sports.

Those guys from WEC will never come to the UFC, like i said, theyre happy being Big fish in a small pond. They dont want to come to the UFC and get dominated and become a nobody. They have their immaculate records, fighting CANS..

Ya i seen some of Fabers fights, and ill tell you this, its not hard to look impressive against an inferior opponent.

WHO HAS FABER BEAT??? crazy horse? he even has a loss to Tyson Griffin, whos a good fighter, but compare him to someone like BJ.. wheres Faber really going? hes staying in the WEC man hehe.

Thats why i give respect to Huerta, though i criticized him at first, hes got the stones to fight in the majors. Granted hes had 6 fights in the UFC and the best guys hes fought is Guida lol. Somehow he still manages to get fights with nobodys to build up his record.

  11. MMAKansas says:

Well.. Richard is gone.. guess he either A. Couldn’t take me disagreeing with him, (kinda like Dennis) or B. He got sick of all his bandwagons crashing.. ie. Hendo.. (then Hendo loses) then there was Alexander Houston who was gonna KILL Thiago… was gonna threaten the division… Rich was on for him too.. (the Alexander loses) you know I pointed all this Bandwagon crap out to him, he got all defensive and mad…. I asked him his favorite fighters.. he names like guys that NOBODY cares about who hardly ever fight anymore… safe bets that nobody can dig on.. unlike Chuck, Wandy, Cro Cop, Arlovski.. NOT so safe bets that you can catch a lot of heat on if they lose right… I just think that Richard got sick of being wrong all the time… and he was really into beating Dennis’ number.. so like that was the highlight of his life and now thats done and over… dunno, sucks having him drop off like that… been a month now pretty much… I think that he will show up somewhere down the road if something major in MMA happens though..

  12. PATRICK says:

ok that manuever is now called pullin a dennis richard….go arlovskiiiiiiiii!!!!!

  13. PATRICK says:

    @BV

what are your thoughts on condit maybe going to the ufc…. ????

    • bvrasp says:

Like i said Patrick, Condits not going anywhere.. I personally dont think hes got what it takes to hang with UFC WW fighters. Ofcourse we will never know, because he will always be in the WEC.

I mean it makes sense kind of, if your the dominant champ, why would you leave that behind just to go out and get your azzz handed to you? lol.

  14. bvrasp says:

Good example is Anderson Silva, hes always been a great fighter, then he won the Cage Rage MW title.. WOW! lol. He had a few successful defenses and finally he just walked away from that garbage promotion.

He certainly could have sat there and dominated upcoming rookies and over the hill has-beens. Instead he came to the UFC and now hes dominating THE BEST FIGHTERS IN THE WORLD.

If Faber, Condit, Melendez, etc.. come to the UFC and try and begin their real mma career, i will have alot more respect for them. Win or lose, i would have more respect for them than i do now. Im not saying they “suck” theyre very good fighters, but until theyre really tested, theyre not top 10.. they cant be.

  15. Casey says:

Whoever wrote that stuff about Faber can suck my you know what. I bet you Faber would beat you down like a little bit** that you are.
