What has been rumored for the past week is finally official. M-1 Global CEO Monte Cox confirmed that Fedor Emelianenko is no longer associated with the promotion.

According to an interview with Cox by Greg Savage, Fedor never signed a formal contract with M-1, but rather signed a “letter of intent” that prevented him from competing in another promotion while negotiations were ongoing.

According to Cox the promotion is not completely dead however:

“The group that formed M-1 Global is still together and we’re going to remain together and put on an MMA event,” Cox told Sherdog.com. “It won’t be under the name M-1 Global because that is definitely associated with Emelianenko Fedor and the Russians, and we’ve come to an agreement that we’re going to part ways.”

“We have different philosophies,” Cox said. “It’s just the way that it is. For me, I’m not as concerned about all the glitz and the glamour of the show; I just want to have good fights and I want to make money. That was my goal.”

Cox says that the promotion hopes to put on their first show sometime this summer, most likely in Chicago, IL.

Good. Maybe we will actually get to see him fight again. If he don’t end up in the UFC I hope Elite is able to sign him. Elite doesn’t have a great talent pool to test him but at least Fedor can get some fights in. I’d have to laugh if they had him face Kimbo and Kimbo actually won.
