This Wednesday night the UFC returns to Colorado for UFC Fight Night 13. The UFC has put together one of their finest all-around fight cards ever and is bringing a total of 12 fights to the table. For the first time ever, this Fight Night event on Spike TV will be a three-hour broadcast instead of the regular two. With so many good fights lined up there are some excellent fights relegated to the undercard, but with a few quick victories, we may get to see most of them.

Kenny Florian vs Joe Lauzon – The Battle of Beantown should be a great main event. Two excellent jiu-jitsu players will go head-to-head in what should be an exciting fight to watch all the way through. Joe Lauzon has been training with BJ Penn in Hawaii and you could see a clear improvement in his game between his fights with Brandon Melendez and Jason Reinhardt.

Kenny Florian has proved time and again that he is a legitimate contender in the lightweight division. Since taking former lightweight champion Sean Sherk to the distance, Florian has reeled off three straight victories via submission. Florian takes pride in finishing his fights before they head to the judges scorecards and that itself creates a good fight.

For all the improvement Lauzon has received training with BJ Penn, I think he still might be a little green when compared to Florian. When the fight hits the mat I see Florian being the aggressor and controlling with ground-and-pound. Winner: Kenny Florian

Karo Parisyan vs Thiago Alves – Thiago Alves has only lost twice since joining the UFC in 2005 – once to Spencer Fisher and once to Jon Fitch – nothing to be ashamed of. “The Pitbull” will push the pace against Karo Parisyan, who doesn’t seem to be the same since he lost to Diego Sanchez at UFC Fight Night 6. Seven of Karo’s last eight victories have come via decision and Thiago will look to push the pace and finish Karo early. Karo needs to look impressive and show us something new this fight or he will slide further into the deep end of the welterweight division. For some reason I think Karo’s squeaks out another decision win. Winner: Karo Parisyan

Matt Hamill vs Tim Boetsch – Tough fight for me to call as I really can see this fight going to either fighter. Tim Boetsch burst onto the scene at UFC 81 last month with a decisive knockout victory over David Heath. Matt Hamill hasn’t fought since UFC 75 last September when he was robbed of a victory against Michael Bisping in England. I’m not familiar at all with Boetsch’s ground game so I have to give wrestling edge to Hamill considering we know that is his strength. Hamill has been sloppy with his standup in the past but looked much better against Bisping. I don’t know if he is at Boetsch’s level on the feet yet. I think Matt will try to stand and strike and that could be his downfall. Winner: Tim Boetsch

Nate Diaz vs Kurt Pellegrino – Nate Diaz is coming of an excellent submission victory over Alvin Robinson. We know Diaz has great jiu-jitsu having trained under Cesar Gracie his whole life. What we don’t know is if Nate will suddenly fall in love with his fists like his older brother Nick. Kurt Pellegrino has a few submissions up his sleeve as well and has the big edge in pure wrestling over Diaz. Pellegrino took Joe Stevenson to decision and his size advantage could be tough for Nate to handle. While I like Diaz’s chances at pulling off a submission, I think Pellegrino takes this fight via submission. Winner: Kurt Pellegrino

Gray Maynard vs Frank Edgar – Frank Edgar is one of the most exciting fighters in the lightweight division right now and if you somehow missed his fights against Tyson Griffin, Mark Bocek, and Spencer Fisher then you are in for a treat. Frank Edgar brings his undefeated record and a high tempo pace into the cage. While Gray Maynard is known for his wrestling, Frank Edgar is equally as good. Edgar’s edge comes in the submission and striking games. Very tough fight for Gray Maynard. Winner: Frank Edgar

Houston Alexander vs James IrvinWinner: Houston Alexander
Josh Neer vs Dim ThomasWinner: Din Thomas
Marcus Aurelio vs Ryan RobertsWinner: Marcus Aurelio
Jeff Cox vs Manvel GamburyanWinner: Manvel Gamburyan
Clay Guida vs Samy SchiavoWinner: Clay Guida
George Sotiropoulous vs Roman MitichyanWinner: George Sotiropoulous
Anthony Johnson vs Tommy SpeerWinner: Anthony Johnson

  5. bvrasp says:

hey, anyone see the movie “Devils Rejects”?

    • richard says:

that movies all wright rob zombies a pretty cool director.

      • bvrasp says:

ya man, it one of my top 10 fav movies man.. i love that bad meets evil kinda theme.

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah man Rejects is one of the best movies ive ever seen for sure.

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

its kinda a Natural Born Killers type of story. witch is another great movie along the whole bad meets evil line.

        • bvrasp says:

I liked that guy who played the sheriff the best, that kills it in those crazy type roles.

Like in that steven segal movie where he blasted that woman in the cars brains out for no reason. hes just cold man heh

        • bvrasp says:

NAtural born killers was a classic, the cutscenes and camera work were off the chain man, that was oliver stone directing with tarantino as like a co-director, fkn masterpiece right there..

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

a lot of people give me a hard time about it but i dont care i say Tarantino is a genius and everything he puts his name on is awesome. the way Natural Born Killers was put together was a work of art. Stone is another director who pumps out the awesome on the regular.

        • PATRICK says:

bv rejects classic…good movie… like christian cage… an instant classic

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

Christian Cage thats the guy from TNA rasslin’ right? i love wrestlers and there catch phrases .

        • PATRICK says:

lol instant classic christian cage…. heck yeah

  6. R.J. St.Croix says:

    my pick are like this:
    Kenny Florian/round 2 sub
    Karo Parisyan/unanimous decision
Tim Boetsch/round 1 TKO (yeah im jumping on that bandwagon lol)
Houston Alexander/round 1 TKO (bumrush anyone?)
Gray Maynard/split decision (i dont know who to pick in this one)
Din Thomas/round 2 TKO (i hope to see Din back to being the monster he once was)
    Clay Guida/unanimous decision
Roman Mitichyan/unanimous decision (because he needs it)
Anthony Johnson/round 1 TKO (i guess i just dont like Speer)
Nate Diaz/round 2 sub (keeping my fingers crossed)
    Manvel Gamburyan/decision
    Marcus Aurelio/round 2 sub

  7. R.J. St.Croix says:

hey Doc did you have a Mike Goldberg moment there:
“Florian has reeled off three straight submission victories via submission.”
i dont even notice it the first time i read it but it kinda cough my eye a min. ago lol.

  8. bvrasp says:

looks like im the only one who picked Neer over Din, i think the only disadvantage for Neer is coming down in weight. We dont know how it will affect him, but i think he has the striking and grappling advantage over Din, plus hes much stronger than Din.

If florian vs Lauzon doesnt live up to the hype, i see this being the fight of the night.

    • Dr J says:

you really think Neer is a better grappler than Din? I’m surprised. First person I’ve heard give The Dentist the advantage on the ground.

      • bvrasp says:

I do, Neers very well rounded man, i could see him submitting din after some gnp, if he doesnt just knock him out.

Neers a tough SOB man, i would be very impressed if Din stops him. Especially at 155, but who knows, he may gas out in the 1st round, first fight at that weight against din is a tough fight.

  9. PATRICK says:

y is everyone so active today… everyone off work of sumthing?

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

man ive been off work for weeks and im bored out of my mind, ive been going and doing siding jobs with my father-in-law just out of pure boredom. for the first week or so i played so much Rock Band i was having dreams i was in the game lol.

  12. MAD says:

Fight day. I can’t wait till this afternoon. Fights start at 2:45 mountain time. Hopefully the day goes by fast can’t wait for the fights. I heard Randy was going to be able to corner one of his fighters tonight. Hope this is true I’d be happy to meat the man. I’ll send in some pics if I get any good ones. It may be harder for this event because it’s sold out and will be packed. The arena is not to big so I’m keeping my hopes up.

  13. maxx says:

I have Neer and Irvin as my upset picks. I seem to be pretty much alone on this one. My reasons are mainly gut feelings. I just see Din being over confident and getting caught, same goes for Alexander. I’m probably way off.

  14. R.J. St.Croix says:

well boys it looks like everyone made weight, so its on like Donkey Kong and man this is going to be a good one. its a bit weird to be watching a card this good in the middle of the week without a housefull of people. oh well at least i wont have any MMA noobs asking me stupid questions all night.

  15. bvrasp says:

oh man, i couldnt help but laughing at Houston vs Irvin, good stoppage tho..

  16. bvrasp says:

is it just me? or does Rampage look a bit chubby tonight?

  17. R.J. St.Croix says:

lmao i almost forgot did you hear the part were Joe Rogan said “Hamill has him with the rape choke” lol i almost died and i couldnt even repeat what i was laughing at cuz my kids were like “whats so funny Dad” lol

  18. R.J. St.Croix says:

wow man this is a good card so far, Karo gets dropped?

  19. bvrasp says:

oh man, Johnson shut down Speers whole game by stopping the takedown, everything he learned with Hughes was useless, great job man.

  20. maxx says:

So far so good, I’m a little upset at Edgar, it was supposed to be one of my sure parlay bets. My two underdog parlays made it….dmn it. Oh well, good fights…hopefully I’ll salvage some picks for the rest.
