One of the more interesting fights at UFC 83 this weekend is between Rich Franklin and Travis Lutter.
Franlin was the last UFC middleweight champion before Anderson Silva joined the promotion, and Lutter was a previous #1 contender. A very important fight for both fighter’s futures in the UFC.

I THINK Franklin will win, but I’m laying money on Lutter over at mmaplayground, cause it’s good odds for something that I think has a real good chance of happening

Wow, me and Patrick actually agree on this, Franklin by TKO in the 2nd. Its a pretty obvious gameplan, Lutter wants to take it to the mat and Franklin wants to keep it standing.
Franklins got that great footwork, takedown defense and im sure since his fights with Silva hes been improving his already solid clinch game. Hes also got very good wrestling and BJJ, hes got it all, a very well rounded fighter.
Whats Lutter got? world class BJJ, which doesnt mean much unless you hit the mat. If he decides to stand with Franklin, hes gonna catch a beating.
Consider this, Franklins never been submitted, if it does hit the mat, i think Rich is good enough to survive until the end of the round or a ref standup happens.

i got Rich round 2 TKO also but im kinda doubting it just because Lutter has a good chin.
I think Lutter is a decent competitor but Franklin’s game is well-rounded enough that Lutter does not present a significant threat anywhere.
Is it possible Franklin will screw up and get caught in a sub? Yeah. Likely? I think not. Most likely scenario is Franklin by KO or decision.

I am picking Lutter in this as an upset. I think Rich will come in over confident because of all the reasons you guys have stated… I think that he has been lackluster mentally and in his training because of his losses, and I think that he will loose heart if Travis does get the takedown.. I see Travis as a man on a mission to prove he is UFC material after not making weight I know that has motivated and weighed on him..

I’m taking Franklin by decision. If the fight stays standing Franklin will win maybe even TKO. Travis has a chance of winning if he can get Rich down and keep him there but that’s unlikely. I think they will be be a little conservative and go to a decision though. If the fight does end in the distance my money’s on Franklin by TKO.

You never make sense…. Lutter might lose, but he will not get destroyed… and I think he will pull an upset.. the only person I have seen “DESTROYED” lately is Franklin… lol
