Sam Caplan at FiveOuncesOfPain.com is reporting that the July 19th show scheduled by the new Affliction promotion may be in jeopardy.

Caplan is reporting that a deal between Affliction and HDNet has fallen through. As a result of the broadcast deal going south, Affliction was also not able to book American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX for the event.

On Saturday nights “Rear Naked Radio” show in Dallas, Randy Couture hinted that the event might now take place at The Pond in Anaheim, CA.

While the first Affliction show is scheduled to be a Pay-Per-View event headlined by a heavyweight fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia, it was thought HDNet would air the undercard fights before the PPV went live.

And, while we are on the subject of Affliction, it appears that EliteXC has also banned its fighters from wearing Affliction clothing during events, just like the UFC.

this whole banning sponsors thing is starting to really bother me. dont these companies realize that the sponsors help in a large part to finance these fighters training camps. it not cool at all to spend $8000 on a training camp and make $10000 for a fight if the money for your training comes out of your own pocket. if companies like the UFC are not going to allow fighter to pimp whatever sponsors they choose then they should at least flip the bill for the fighters camp, you MUST train properly to compete at a pro level and if you cant afford to train well then you’ll have a hard time fighting well. Randy Couture wasnt always the owner of his own gym he was a good fighter who got paid well and used some of that money for training and became a better fighter who got paid even more and then started his own training center and got even better and higher paid, you see a pattern here?

  2. R.J. St.Croix says:

oh on topic of the Affliction card it doesnt surprise me at all that there having trouble getting things going. it seem a bunch of people are getting these great ideas and jumping the gun announcing it only to run into problems before they can even get started.

  3. maxx says:

Well affliction kind of shot their sponsored fighters in the foot by starting their own promotion. In the current MMA environment promotions are for the most part complete self contained and directly compete with other promotions. You won’t see the owner of the Yankees wearing a Red Sox hat.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

your right about the Affliction thing, Burger King is not going to place adds for Big Macs in there stores so i see your point but this isnt the first sponsor to be banned and im sure it wont be the last. Xtream Couture teeshirts are nots allowed to be warn by fighter ether (yeah i know there made by Affliction) and for a while (and im sure soon to be) Punishment was banned too.

  4. R.J. St.Croix says:

i think a time is coming when you see fighters coming to ring with a shirt that says Coke, Duracell, and Nike as opposed to Condom Depot and Tapout. i will reserve judgment on whether this will be a good or bad thing until it happens.

  5. bvrasp says:

Hey Doc, would you be able to get a list of all the fighters the UFC has released this year so far?? its clear they have been trimming the fat from their roster, but they released alot of good fighters too.

If they plan to have WEC absorb most of those guys, it could become a very strong promotion.

  6. Dr J says:

    Joe Doerksen
    Din Thomas
    Tommy Speer
    Travis Lutter
    John Kolosci
    Dorian Price
    Paul Georgieff

    Dan Barrera
    Blake Bowman
    Richie Hightower
    Kalib Starnes
    Kuniyoshi Hironaka
    Jake O’Brien
    David Heath
    John Halverson
    Soa Palelei

Probably a few others, but those are what I have notes on just since Jan. 1, 2008

  7. MAD says:

Damn that is a lot of fighters. Looks like a lot of TUF guys were cut. Din Tomas kinda surprises me. He usually puts on good fights and seems to have a good fan base. Most of these guys I’m not sad to see go though. Lutter’s last couple of performances were pretty bad. He gets close to submitting guys but gasses way to easily to be at this level.

  8. MMAKansas says:

They all deserved to move out to other orgs… none of them performed up to spec..

  9. MMAKansas says:

Gosh everyone is talking about UFC 85 … and there is nothing about UFC 85 that really catches me over UFC 84. … UFC 84 now thats a fight card.. where is all the talk ???? This card is so overstacked its about to tip over! Penn, Silva, Ortiz and all anyone can talk about is all the losers that got cut.. I think Kalib Starnes has made more headlines than BJ, Wanderlei, or Machida/Ortiz …

I just checked and your first comment was on 12/28/2006. This was your comment:

HI EVERYONE REGARDLESS HOW GOOD DIEGO IS IM SORRY BUT NO WAY HE CAN HANDLE GSP…. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MATT HUGHES COULDNT…. GSP WILL BE CHAMP FOR QUITE A WHILE I SEE IT…

      • MAD says:

I think that’s about the time I first started posting on this site can’t remember exactly though.

        • Dr J says:

MAD your first comment was on 12/05/2006:

          What’s up!!
This my first time commenting on this site. I’d just like to say I hope Crocop does get a contract with the UFC. He will take over the Heavyweight division and force Dana to bring in more top ranked competition. I’m also a fan of both Pride and UFC but tend to watch UFC because it is more accessable than Pride is in the states. I like that the UFC is putting on free show every coule of months in the form of the Ultimate fight nights. Since Pride lost it’s TV contract they are not getting the exposure they once were. The New years events for Pride and the UFC should be great. The Tito and Chuck fight is a little over hyped considering they already fought and Tito didn’t give much of an account of himself. If and that’s a big IF he can get Chuck to the ground and keep him there he has a good chance of utilizing his signiture ground and pound. If he makes the mistake of trying to stand in there and swing again he will be KO’d much the same way. I think Pide is cool still holding open weight tournement style fight cards. There is no way Sylvia would be able to take on more than one top level opponent the same night.
I don’t look at it so much as to being loyal to one organization or another, as fans we can appreciate the goog thing that both have to offer. Going back to the fight nights this upcoming show on December 13 should be good. I’m a big fan of Diego Sanchez since were from the same home town. His last fight with Karo was great. Show he can overcome adversity. Joe Riggs will be a good test also. He is a better fighter than his record shows. If he can beat Riggs he should be in line for a title shot. I think GSP is awsome, and the way he took care of Hughes shows how much he has improved since the first fight. If Diego does get a shot at GSP that would be a good fight. My heart is with Diego but GSP is going to be hard to dethrone. As far Tim Sylvia goes his days are numbered. He is a good fighter mainly because of his size but I agree that Fedor, Crocop, Barrnett and Nogueira would be able to take his belt. He may be able to fend them off for a while with his reach but once he’s taken down he will be outmatched. Crocop and Fedor would KO him. The fight I’m hoping to see is Mike Tyson. Although I don’t think he has enough MMA experience to be a real threat it would be an interesting to see him hit someone with the small gloves. They better put a Hannibal Lecter mask on him so he don’t take a chunk!! Don’t mean to be rambling just wanted to say whats up and I like the way everone voices their opinion. I think with both organization taking each other seriously we will all be in for some great fights in the near future.

        • MAD says:

I knew it was about the same time. Looks like my opinions haven’t changes that much since then. Thanks Doc I was just curious.

ya TUF was crazy last night man.. crazy fights, that one guy who got kicked in the chin was lucky if you ask me. He was about 2 inches away from getting kicked in the throat, pretty amazing that nobody has died in a mma fight yet if you ask me, they got great control, thats all io can say.

How bout the rock em sock em robots fight? lol. Entertaining yes.. but pretty low on the skill chart, looked like Don Frye vs Takayama almost.

  19. bvrasp says:

hey Patrick, you played gta 4 yet? we might have to start calling you ****** hehe

Heres some details on the impact of MMA in canada from mmaweekly, i know you gonna check it RJ hehe.

    http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=6229&zoneid=4

Heres some things that caught my eye..

“HALF OF THE BELL CENTRE WAS FROM THE GREATER TORONTO AREA

Sources from the Montreal Bell Centre have indicated that over three quarters of the 21,000 fans in attendance for UFC 83 purchased their tickets through the UFC Fight Club. In fact, half of the tickets were sold to individuals with postal codes in the Greater Toronto Area. All of which contributed to the biggest live gate in Canadian combat sports history, $5.1 million.”

—-> Does this tell you something?? let the UFC come to Toronto you douchebag politicians!!!! Seriously man, if they had an outdoor event in like a park or something, they could probably sell like 500,000 tickets, no BS.

“CHARGES LAID AGAINST PROMOTERS OF NATIVE RESERVE EVENTS IN ONTARIO

Charges have been laid against five promoters from the Iroquois Mixed Martial Arts events held near Hamilton, Ontario. The Six Nation’s police say it was the Ontario Athletic Commissioner, Ken Hayashi, who initiated the official complaint. The complaint resulted in one charge being laid against each of the promoters for holding a “prize fight,” which is in violation of section 83 of Canada’s Criminal Code and punishable by summary conviction. Section 787 states that the maximum penalty for a summary conviction offence is a sentence of six months of imprisonment, a fine of $2000, or both.

The correct first step is to try to set up amateur MMA to get the province comfortable with the sport and also to establish a good track record,” Hayashi elaborated. “I don’t have any say in amateur sport, as that’s run by the Ministry of Health Promotions. But, I will inquire on behalf of the Canadian Mixed Martial Arts Association as to the status of their application review.”

—-> Hey pencil pushers, there IS amateur mma in the province and it has a GREAT track record, aswell as all other MMA around the world, get your head out your *** and smell the maple-nut crunch!

    • bvrasp says:

I dont see how you can have Pro Football with guys getting injured almost on a daily basis, juicing like crazy and its all fine with the province. Hockey players beating the living **** out of each other BARE KNUCKLE, blind-siding guys with crippling body checks and ****. Boxers beating theyre brains out until the become drooling vegetables.

And YET, highly trained professional fighters wearing protective gear cant compete against each other!!

LET THEM FIGHT! and sell out the seats EVERYTIME!

Instead we get baseball games that sell no tickets, you know how many times i got free tickets from cheezy giveaways? and i STILL never went! does that tell them something??

      • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah B i knew about the first nations thing, as you know ive been trying to put together my own MMA promotion (very small, i plan on making no profit what-so-ever) and i intended at first to do it at the Oneida reservation. there has been a few out there in the past, but now with the boost in popularity it seems the whistle blowers are buzzing even more then the fans and all my plans are being squashed over and over. i am still going to put something together and as much as i dont want to get into any trouble i am expecting some heat over it, as long as i can do my part to get it legal in Ontario im ok with it. i just want someday for it to be alright for my sons to compete in there home province.

  21. PATRICK says:
