A quick play-by-play of the three IFL title fights tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

Ryan McGivern vs Dan Miller – Middleweight Title

Round 1 – Both guys come out swinging for the fences. Neither guy giving ground, both landing solid fights. Miller gets the first takedown but can’t do much from the guard. Yves Levigne restarts the fighters in the center of the ring. Schultz lands a strong up-kick from the bottom but Miller grabs a leg on his way to the mat. A minute later, Miller gets a leg and sinks in a kneebar to end the fight at 3:36 of the first round. Second fight to end by kneebar in a row. Dan Miller is the new IFL Middleweight Champion.

Ryan Schultz vs Deividas Taurosevicius – Lightweight Title

Round 1 – Both guys size each other up early and exchange some leg kicks. Neither guy wants to get in close and exchange. Tauro starts to land some solid shots and both fighters clinch up in the corner. Tauro lands half a dozen strong knees to Shultz’s inner thigh. One knee appeared to be a groin shot, but referee Dan Mirgliotta didn’t see it. I score the round 10-9 for Taurosevicius.

Round 2 – Tauro starts round 2 strong and rattles Schultz with a right hook. Schultz is able to clinch able and out-power Tauro to the mat for the first takedown of the fight. Tauro tries to work a triangle from his back, but the angle is back and Schultz is able to muscle out of it and posture up back into Tauro’s full guard. Fighters work close to the ropes and Mirgliotta restarts them on the feet in the center. Very close round, could go either way. I score the round 10-9 Schultz.

Round 3 – Schultz opens round 3 with a huge slam. Tauro continues to be active from the full guard looking for another triangle choke. Tauro works a good sweep and ends up on top in sidemount. Tauro tries for the full mount but Schultz defends well. Tauro takes Schultz’s back with about 1:30 left in the round but Schultz slips out and ends up in top with Tauro trapped in the corner. Another very tough round to score. I give this one 10-9 to Tauro.

Round 4 – Tauro gets the takedown to begin round 4 and works from the sidemount. The fighters get back to the feet and Schultz scores a takedown of his own and lands some shots from the guard. Schultz gets sloppy with some strikes and falls into an armlock. Schultz is able to maintain composure and pick up Tauro and slam him back to the mat to escape the armbar attempt. Schultz remains in guard and continues to ground-and-pound. Schultz pulls and excellent sweep of Tauro’s legs and slides into the mount and rolls onto Tauro’s back. Schultz sinks in a rear naked choke but Tauro is able to hold on until the bell rings to end the round. I score it 10-9 for Schultz.

Round 5 – Tauro lands a shot that wobbles Schultz but Ryan is able to recover and gets Tauro to the ground where he begins to deliver some heavy strikes. Tauro does a back somersault trying to stand up but the ropes prevent him from getting to his feet. Schultz regains top position and continues to deliver blows from Tauro’s guard. I score the round 10-9 for Schultz meaning he retains the title 48-47.

Judges score the fight 48-47 for Ryan Schultz who retains the IFL Lightweight Championship.

Brad Imes vs Roy Nelson – Heavyweight Title

Round 1 – Imes is a big dude in person (he’s big on TV, but in person he’s just HUGE) not that Nelson is a small guy. Nelson rocks Imes with a left hook and continues to rattle his cage. Imes tries to regain his composure but is clearly on shaky legs. Nelson continues to land a solid left jb and Imes is giving no defense. Nelson works Imes into the corner and hammers away at the “Hillbilly Hearthrob” eventually throwing him halfway out of the ring. Imes is completely out of it and Nelson is just picking his shots working both the left and right hands consistently. Nelson lands a hugh right cross that drops Imes to the mat and referee Dan Mirgliotta calls a stop to the fight at 2:55 of round 1. Roy Nelson remains the IFL Heavyweight Champion.

Overall, an exciting night of fights with some good action and upsets. The crowd at Mohegan Sun was once again excellent and energetic throughout the night. Hopefully the IFL can land a big investor and find a way to continue to stay afloat and put on shows, because the level of competition really is solid. Pictures from the event will come soon once I get them all processed.

doc never seen ya do play by play…cool man…

  2. MMAKansas says:

    @Dr J

I am soo curious to hear your breakdown of the fights for next week.. any hints on who you are taking??

    @ EVERYONE…
Who are you guys picking on the Playground???

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

      my picks are like this:
      Clementi-UD
      Koppenhaver-UD
      Thiago-R1 TKO
      Carwin-R2 TKO
      Sokoudjou-UD
      Kim-R1 TKO
      Salaverry-UD
      Gouveia-R3 KO
      Wanderlei-R2 KO
      Machida-UD
and for the main event i have a bold prediction but i think it might happen and im picking Penn round 1 submission. Sherk knows his best shot is to make it very fast paced right from the get go to try and kill Penns cardio, i see Sherk taking Penn down quick and trying to work some g’n'p and getting sloppy trying to keep a high tempo and getting cough in something.

      • MMAKansas says:

Finally someone answered me.. lol thanks RJ.. good picks.. I pretty much see it going the same way, your final pick is more realistic than bold I would say, not to steal your thunder but I can see it going that way too.. same thing Joe Daddy did was JUMP RIGHT IN.. only reason Pierre won was because he felt his way in and then used his height / reach neither of which Sherk has.. he is a little dwarf from the land of Narnia, on roids hehe.. and he’s gonna lose kids.. lol

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah i think Sherk is more interested in out-working Penn and less worried about BEATING him, if Sherk forgets that your aloud to finish fights and tries to hard for control hes going to lose. Sherks best bet is to hurt Penn early and often so BJ has to stay on the defensive, maybe then Sherk can drag into the late rounds and Penns cardio may come in to question then.

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

and im still not sold on the “new” BJ Penn thing, i still dont think he has the cardio to go five and in that sense i would like to see this fight go all the way just to see if can could pull off a five round decision. i guess we will see, that is if someone can drag the fight out with him.

        • bvrasp says:

          Kansas heres my picks:

          BJ 3rd round submission

          - I dont think BJ will end up under Sherk, BJ will control the position but if it goes past the 3rd, its going to the cards.

          Machida 2nd round KO

          - Jacob will probably survive the 1st, maybe get a takedown and wait out the rest of round 1. Round 2 Machida will have figured him out, time him, clock him, drop him..

          WANDERLEI SILVA! 2nd round KO

          - 1st round feeling out peroiod for both guys, some leg kicks and quick exchanges. Round 2 Wandy blitz, put the pressure on Jardine that Chuck never did, Wandy wont sit back and try to counter the entire fight, once hes ready he WILL pull the trigger and take risks to finish the fight.

          Gouveia split Decision:

          - nuff said..

          Salaverry 1st round Submission:

          - I think Ivan has seen what happens when your tentative in the UFC, i think he will be more aggressive in this fight and take it to the ground early where he has the advantage.

          Kim split decision:

          - I like Kim, hes a good fighter but its his first foray into the UFC and Tan has already been to the big show once so hes probably shaken the jitters by now. Kim is the better fighter but i dont see him finishing, probably gas out coming over seas and all that..

          Sokudjou 1st round KO:

          - If hes focused and determined to win this fight, he needs to get nakamura out of there early, use his reach and do what he does best. Soku is such a beast but hes had trouble executing lately, lets hope hes on top form.

          Wellisch split decision:

          - This is gonna be a great fight, i feel theyre both around the same level, i think Wellisch is a bit tougher and scrappier but i cant see either of these guys quitting during this fight.

          Thiago Silva 1st round KO:

          - nuff said

          War Machine split decision:

          - He doesnt impress me and his opponent impresses me even less, probably a boring uneventful fight.

HERES MY UNDERDOG PICK FOR THIS EVENT

Im picking Etim to win a decision over Clementi, why yoiu ask? lol cuz i needed an underdog pick to round out my parlay wager hehe. Etim is pretty good on the ground, he should be able to defend Richs sub attempts, maybe gain a superior position and grind him out for a boring victory..

I can only hope.. if he wins im looking at 113,000 on the playground.. my other picks are most likely in the bag.. but you never know! hehe

        • MMAKansas says:

Guys I am hoping against hope that Wand pulls this out! He does read his emails and respond, I emailed him last week and told him to let loose, also told him I would be praying for him, I was thinking about fasting and praying one day this week for his fight.. .haha kidding.. just wanted to freak out my buddies here that already know I love Jesus and am a fanatic for God! Lol! But seriously Wand is still my fav fighter and it ticks me off that some of these bloggers out there are kicking dirt on his grave and saying it’s over, I am looking for a KO in this fight and after this fight he will either rise up and fight a top contender to set up a Rampage or title fight late in the year or he will move down to 185 .. at any rate.. go Wanderlei!

        • MMAKansas says:

By the way BV.. I like your picks, they all look pretty good… some of these fights are obvious and some of them are a flip of the coin, but most are pretty evident… I think this will be the card of the year honestly, for me anyways in the UFC, yeah.. you have two Chuteboxe/former chuteboxers you have Penn, you have Machida fighting Tito which for me is exciting because of all the drama surrounding it being potentially his last in the UFC.. so yeah.. big card…

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

man i just really hope we get to see the “real” Wanderlei come in and put on a good show, im not sure if i care anymore if he wins or loses i just like watching him fight and i think as long as he comes in and gives us the Axe Murderer the UFC will keep him around no matter how many he loses.

        • MMAKansas says:

I agree RJ but the thrill of your man winning is exhilarating and people, ie myself and other fans are sick of him losing, I really want the nay sayers silenced..

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah i feel you Kansas, i want nothing more then to see Wand rip through the LHW division and meet (and beat) Rampage for the title but im just saying win or lose i dont think the UFC will let him go as long as he fights the way we’ve seen him fight so many times before. and because the UFC does some off the wall sh*t sometimes i could see a situation where if Silva beats Jardine, Dana White will say “well Wand just beat Jardine, who beat Chuck the ex-champ, and Wand also killed Rampage before so of course he gets a title shot” you know what i mean? im not counting on any of this happening but it would not surprise me at all.

  3. Dr J says:

    @Kansas

here’s a quick little preview: I’m taking Thiago Silva and Sokoudjou. Hope that wets your appetite, haha

  4. MMAKansas says:

I don’t like Josh Koscheck, I just finished watching the whole TUF 1 series again on DVD.. and I really just have very little respect for Josh.. glad he lost to Georges and I don’t see him developing into a champion any time soon…

  5. bvrasp says:

Sengoku 2 was a decent card, but the actual fights werent very entertaining to watch. Especially Randleman, the guy comes out like a caged animal… for about 5 sec… then he goes into wrestling mode, forcing stalemate positions, blah…

I guess its only their 2nd event, so we can only hope for better next time, afterall, they only book the fights, performace is all up to the fighters.. but again, pretty dissappointing event..

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

how did you get to see the event download? and your right about Randleman, i used to really like Randleman until i realized he was boring. im still a fan of the Monster but he is boring to watch. the last time i really cheered for Randleman was his fight with Randy Couture. he was supposed to rip Randy to shreds but we all know how that turned out.

  6. PATRICK says:

kansas we all will come to agreement that wand will put it on kIeth…no worries

    • MMAKansas says:

Thanks Patrick, I have been concerned by his size but not as much as before, I thank you for your confidence in him he is not THAT small I mean I watched UFC 79 night before last and he definatly won round two with Chuck handily, if he had pulled the trigger like that from the get go he would have possibly wont the fight, he was too cautious, I don’t think he will make that mistake again, I see Wandy coming out to finish Jardine no matter what, and after watching the interview with Keith, he seems less confident, I don’t know maybe I am wrong but he seems to be minimizing a win and just acting like its okay as long as there is blood and blows and a beating which is good too but that slight of confidenct is good for Wand, and I think once Keith gets hit several times and bum rushed he will recoil and be defensive giving the win to Wand either by KO in round 2 or by decision…

  7. andymann says:

Dr J, I want to join the MMA playground send me an invite. Username is andymann.

    • MAD says:

Dr J, this is my little brother that is in the event pictures I sent in. He wants to try his luck on the Playground. Can you add him to the camp?

    • Dr J says:

No problem. I just sent you an invite so just log into your MMAPlayground.com account and you should see a new message with an invitation

      • MAD says:

Cool thanks man. He’s in now.

        • Dr J says:

          sweet. love the new members!

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

we are still middle weight right? what is the class to members ratio? isnt it 15 to 20 member is middle weight?

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

p.s. are you saying you dont love the old members Doc cuz that hurts a bit lol….. ok that was lame, whatever lol

        • Dr J says:

We are still middleweight because we have 16 members at the moment (11-20 is middleweight).

We would be in the light heavyweights (21-30) but i dropped a couple of people who hadn’t made picks at all for Season 3.

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah i noticed Gatties was gone, too bad because he knows the winner of every single fight ever right? LOL

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

and speaking of mmaplayground how come you guys dont all do secondary league, ive been waiting for one of you guys to come in and knock me out of the top spot.

  8. PATRICK says:

kansas….u say ur close to the good lord ….past six months I’ve been getting close…gotta lot of knowledge in the bible?? gimmie ur email or something…id like tto learn more??

  9. MMAKansas says:

    @Patrick
Doc will give you my email, you can contact me anytime man.. can put you on MSN messenger and you can IM so conversation is quicker… :)

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

im not trying to make fun or anything so dont take it the wrong way, but im wondering why Patrick wants Kansas’s help and what Kansas is going to do to help? i am not a religious person by any stretch so i dont have an answer to why one person would ask an other for help with there faith, but i notice it happens all the time (i have quite a few religious friends) and i’ve asked people to tell me why Jesus is the way and a lot of times they try to send me to talk to someone else (a preacher of some sort) and it seems to me like you need someone REALLY close to God to show you the way but once your on the path its ok to talk to anyone to help keep you there. if you dont feel ok about answering these question thats cool and i dont expect you to i was just wondering about these things.

  10. PATRICK says:

thanks doc…ill email ya kan…na rj I recently cut off tons of bad things outa my lifestyle and theres been some very strange things goin on….coolio..

  11. PATRICK says:

pretty much yes sir…ill email ya kan..

  12. richard says:

    WHAT THE FU*CK?
I DIDNT KNOW WE HAD A GURU,KANSAS LET ME GET AT THAT EMAIL ADDRESS,U SEE I HAVE A PROBLEM,I HAVE BIG BALLS THERE HUGE,U DONT THINK THE BIBLE HAS SOMETHING TO SAY HOW TO MAKE THEM SMALLER
    LOL
    PATRICK
as long as u believe in god and do the right thing buddy u should have no problems in life,i know plenty of people who have found”GOD”and there still phucked.

    • MMAKansas says:

      @Richard
Why don’t you shut your filthy mouth and go about your business.. RJ lay off please; the guy wanted to contact me aside from here so stop being obstinate jerks and let it be.

Real big of you guys.. INTERNET COWBOYS coming on here and JUDGING Patrick for reaching out… so let me ask you Richard what do you know about God besides the crap you have seen on tv or picked up along the way of life? Ever talked to someone who knows more than you ???

“Don’t you know that those who do wrong will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshipers, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. There was a time when some of you were just like that, but now your sins have been washed away, and you have been set apart for God. You have been made right with God because of what the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God have done for you.”

I know for a fact that there is a hell to be avoided and a heaven to be gained, and even DEMONS believe in GOD but they aren’t going where I am going, so just BELIEF in GOD or saying a PRAYER doesn’t make you right or okay, and I think it’s great the Patrick is trying to find God, by talking with people who know more than he does about God, I am no GURU, although I have been to India.. I am a saved, healed, delivered and SANCTIFIED believer in Jesus.

      I commend Patrick.

      • MMAKansas says:

Richard, just being good doesn’t get you to Heaven, and won’t make you “SAVED”.. look at the scripture above, nowhere in the Bible does it say “be good and you will get the prize” this isn’t Christmas and God isn’t Santa Clause, you don’t go to Heaven because you were naughty or nice.. we’ve all be NAUGHTY, but through Christ we can enter the Kingdom, fact is you cannot ever do enough GOOD to get there.. it’s about a covenant between man and God drawn in blood and unless you have made covenant .. yeah you can read the scripture for yourself, its not me.. its not what I wrote, it’s not what I said, its what I believe, declare, preach, and tell but its what God said not me…

  13. bvrasp says:

well Richard, i think your ball problem might be able to be solved by the bible.. just set it on your bean bag and let it sit overnight, by morning they should be shaped like coins hehe.

Kansas, question.. if god is all powerful, can he create a stone so heavy, that he himself couldnt lift it? :)

    • MMAKansas says:

You asked your benign question last time we had a discussion about religion, and that question will be answered with this:

God is a spirit, rocks are physical matter.. matter is beneath God and part of His creation, which is greater, the creation or the creator?

    • bvrasp says:

Im just bustin your BALLS kansas hehe.. not making fun..

      • bvrasp says:

heh i know man, its a paradox, some of my muslim buddies always talk religion, its fun to join in the chatter.

        • MMAKansas says:

          I know… :)

        • bvrasp says:

you gonna watch countdown to 84? just started on spike..

        • MMAKansas says:

no spike…. turned the cable off.. arg…

        • bvrasp says:

im watching it now, for some reason, the production level of this countdown is like 10 times better than the previous ones. Its like the old ones were done with a cam corder, and now they have a real director making it. Funny angles, extreme closeups, Lens filters, better graphics and its more like a story format.

i dunno if it makes sense, but lets just say higher level of production.

        • MMAKansas says:

yeah.. had to be the one with my favorite 2 fighters BJ and Wandy.. lol ..

Okay BV your the online access mullah so help us out.. where online can I stream it or pick it up AFTER its been shown?? :)

        • bvrasp says:

kansas, best bet would be to download it via torrent, but its already late, so you prob have to wait till tomorrow to watch it.

I dont know any place where you can stream spike live anymore, i used to, but that site has been down for a while now..

        • MMAKansas says:

Yeah.. cool no problem.. hey BV your pretty good at breaking things down give us a breakdown on it when it’s over man! :)

  14. PATRICK says:

    lol geesh guys… relax..

kansas the things uve blogged about I feel is totally what I’ve read the past k months…totally agree w u…is this to much to ask if I could txt u dude…

  15. MMAKansas says:

I have to pay 25c per text… sorry dude wish I could but Tmobile is just that good… you can instant message me online.. msn..

  16. PATRICK says:

I got tmobile man…mobile to mobile?

  18. PATRICK says:

ok man call me tomorrow if u can kan….

  19. richard says:

    KANSAS
im just phucking with u,doesnt the bible say something about being judged?I believe in god i love god i just dont think we should break our backs worshiping him afraid of going to hell,sh*it let me have my 60 plus years on this earth to do what i do he can have the rest of eternity!

    • MMAKansas says:

Yeah problem is Richard you have a purpose and it’s not drinking your way to an early death then expecting a holy God to accept you like that in that condition when He made a way for you to live above that standard and to enter into His presence..
Other thing .. the Bible does say things about being judged, it says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ and righteous.. so if that applies to you, then hurray, if its doesn’t then it doesn’t apply to you at all..

The Bible also says judge not lest you be judged with the same measure, its talking in reference to Christians judging each other, but i don’t fear judgment because I don’t live the same lifestyle and I am saved so I have Christ as my advocate against judgment..

neither of these scripture references apply to non-Christians or people who don’t live for Christ..

      • bvrasp says:

I dunno Kansas, after reading your post i did a google search about christian deathbed redemption. Most notably what i saw was a discussion about if Hitler could have accepted Jesus and repented in his final moments.

Most of the people say yes he could have been saved lol.

Sorry man, im not a member of an organized religion, but i do have my own beliefs, morals, ethics, etc..

I dont believe in the i found Jesus or Mohammed BS, which is usually a tactic people use who are trying to get out of prison early…

sure i raped and murdered children and committed mass genocide but ive accepted jesus christ as my saviour, so now i got a clean slate..

in my opinion there is NO REDEMPTION for Hitler, or a child molester, etc..

        • MMAKansas says:

          @BV
IS. 64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing,
          And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind,
          Have taken us away.

You guys are still depending on yourselves.. and trusting that God is no better or more gracious than you… He is big enough to forgive even though we are not.

        • bvrasp says:

well, if thats the way you look at it Kansas, then Richard was right and the deatbed redemption is the way to go. Have your fun while your alive, do what you want then repent right before you die and get into heaven. lol

        • MMAKansas says:

Im not peddling cheap grace.. lol.. and what if you don’t die on your bed.. hehe.. car wrecks can be instant.. kind of a gamble ehh?

anyways… I am hoping wanderlei stomps Keith..

  20. PATRICK says:

geez dudes…then that’s sayin christ died in vain bv lol..

  21. MAD says:

I usually check this site out to see current MMA news and read people’s opinions but latley it’s been bible study here. Why can’t people agree to let others believe what they want and leave it at that. If they end up in hell so what. If there is a heaven and they make it there good for them. I just don’t see reasoning behind converting people beliefs I think people have the right to believe what ever they want good or bad.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

lol i dont think anyone is trying to convert anyone just some friendly conversation ya know. but you are right, enough with the religious chit-chat because we all know that God, Muhammad, Budda, and Jah got together to create this wonderful thing called MMA and they will ALL get upset if we ignore it too long lol.

  22. PATRICK says:

lol mad….lets talk mma boys…doc..arlovski news?

    • Dr J says:

Nothing new. He is scheduled to be at a promotional event for Affliction next week I think (even though he technically hasn’t signed a contract with them). So all signs still continue to point to a fight with Ben Rothwell in Affliction on July 19.

  23. MAD says:

I hope he does fight Big Ben. Andrei deserves to be fighting top guys. Ben Rothwell did well in the IFL and I’d like to see how he fairs against a top heavyweight like the Pitbull. I’m going to order this card there are a few interesting matchups.

    • bvrasp says:

From what ive read Arlovski still might come back to the UFC. Not that his team said anything about it, just based on the fact that the UFC still has the option to match any offer he gets in their contract.

I think his performance in this fight vs Rothwell will determine if the UFC will sign him back. Ofcourse it will also depend on how much someone else is willing to offer Dre, if its too much UFC wont match it.

  24. PATRICK says:

    dre would smoke rothwell.

  25. PATRICK says:

kansas u gotta be my religious bible pal…all my friends here make fun and keep telling me how crazy I am?

    • MMAKansas says:

      You should expect that… lol

Jhn 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

      P.S.
Know you guys don’t like to hear religion, but until Dr J bans me from the site, I will post what I like, and I am not using profanity, nor am I speaking on a subject to discriminate against anyone.. not everyone is a “religion-phobe”… by the way Wandy is a Christian so is Rampage so there, I posted something about MMA :)

Gosh I hate that its Wednesday! Mannn! All the hype surrounding the fights on Saturday make me want to watch now! It’s like Christmas Eve, only three days away! …..
