The UFC officially announced the main event for UFC 87: Seek and Destroy this August in Minnesota. Current UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St Pierre will put his belt on the line against Jon Fitch in a welterweight title fight.

It was already widely known that Jon Fitch was next in line for a shot at the welterweight title, we just didn’t know when that fight would happen. Well, August 9 is the date and the fight will be GSP’s first title defense since regaining the belt against Matt Serra at UFC 83 this past April.

The UFC also announced that Mark Coleman is no longer on the UFC 87 fight card. According to UFC.com, Coleman suffered a knee injury that forced him to withdraw from his scheduled fight with Minnesota native Brock Lesnar. Seems suspect to me that a knee injury in May will keep Coleman out of a fight in August, but I guess for someone at his age, even a less severe injury can take a while to heal. A replacement opponent for Lesnar has not yet been announced.

Also on the UFC 87 fight card is a lightweight matchup between Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta. This fight is expected to produce a number one contender for the next shot at the UFC lightweight title which will be up for grabs this Saturday night at UFC 84.

  1. I like Brock a lot. That being said, my guess is you’ll see a “can” thrown to Brock with the hope that he can pull off a hometown victory.

  2. Also, really looking forward to GSP/Fitch & Florian/Huerta. If I had to make a pick now, I would go with GSP & Florian, but both bouts should be very entertaining.

im kinda glad Coleman is out, im not a big Mark Coleman fan or anything but i dont want to see his get killed. Coleman is not Couture and didnt age as well ether, its hard to see an old man get his asss handed to him (Ken Shamrock over and over) maybe there should be an old timers league for MMA they could have Shamrock vs. Coleman, Royce vs. Miletich ect. ect. it would be fun lol.

ya RJ, ive mentioned that more than a few times in the past. A seniors league would be great! we still wanna see these legends fight, but we dont want to see them get seriously injured.

Theres a TON of guys out there who i would love to see back in the ring.

Shamrock, Coleman, Royce, Miletich, Newton, Goodridge, Takada, Genki, Bas, etc..

      • bvrasp says:

Oh RJ, going along with that idea, i dunno if you ever saw “the eliminator”, but in that movie Bas has a fight with Marco Ruas, that would be an awesome fight to see in a real event.

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

i dont think ive seen the movie, but Bas vs. Ruas would be awesome. Marco is one of my favorite fighters from back in the day (even though i hated him the first time i seem him fight) and i will be an el Guapo devotee for life. there is so many good fights out there for legends someone just needs to figure out how to put it together.

one thing i miss about Pride, is the little clips they setup before the fightcard jumps off.

    remember this? hehe

lol i love it, its got a whole pro-wrestling vibe to it. how can you not have fun with a guy like Bas around. by the way i finally bought GTA4 and the little TV show that Bas has on there is too f*ckin funny, i looks like the people at Rockstar games must be fans of Ruttens self defense video.

    kan..wand looks determined

  6. PATRICK says:

yayyyyyyyyy!!doc how much did I get for puttin 958 on relijec????

    • Dr J says:

I put $250 on Reljic and I won $850 off it (Reljic was a +340)

If you bet $958 on him you would have won about $3258 or so.

I had reljic in my 3 way parlay as well and that netted me over $12,000

I dont think it would be feasable to have an oldtimer’s league. It’s a rapidly growing sport. They have hard enough time paying the young guys. Let alone a 48 year old Gracie. IT is a nice dream, but only a dream nontheless.

  8. DeeNutz says:

    FEASABLE ?? I really can’t see it…….

    • bvrasp says:

Deez, you brought that up twice now, guess your looking for a response, ok here goes..

Is it feasable? no, not really for the reason you stated earlier, there just isnt enough money to go around because the sport is still relatively new.

The thing is, alot of the hardcore fans love these guys and would like to see them back in action regardless of their age, injuries, etc.. Ofcourse thats not something that could sustain a whole “league” but i could definately see some kind of tourney (not fighting multiple times in the same night obviously).

About the money thing, these guys have really taken a beating over the years to entertain us and they were never really compensated for building the sport. The fact that the paydays have increased recently tells me these guys should get atleast 1 or 2 fights so they can put some cash in their pocket for all theyve done for us.

Will it happen? no.. but it would be nice..

      • R.J. St.Croix says:

dreams dont have to be feasible, you got a point but that doesnt mean i dont want to see my heroes from yesterday throw down a few more times. throw a legend match as a co-main on every third ppv and people will love it.
