MMAWeekly.com is reporting that Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez will fight each other this coming October at UFC 89.

A fight between Alves and Sanchez is guaranteed to be an exciting fight from start to finish as both fighters are equally explosive.

This should be an awsome fight. Alves has been on a roll but so has Diego. I have to go for Diego in this one. He’s still one of my favorite fighters. I also like to support my hometown guys. With Sanchez’s improved standup he can hold his own and I would give him the advantage on the ground. Hope the fight lives up to the potential.

  2. Rudy says:

Diego deserves to be next in line for a title shot at welterweight out of everyone in that division.
If Matt Sarra did @ 15 – 4 why not Diego when he was 19 – 0, Now he is 21-2. Fitch just beat Diego by a bit and Thiago Alves was TKO by him.

Thiago Alves got respect because he beat Hughes; he was 190 pounds for sure in that fight.

Will Diego beat GSP, I don’t think so.

Let’s see how GSP does against Fitch,

Diego is bigger & stronger now then before his fight with Fitch; a title shot he does deserve.

    Alves VS Diego sounds right.

Diego wins by submission just like when Fisher submitted Alves

Ya a while back i wanted to see Diego vs Hughes, thats not gonna happen though, Hughes will fight Serra then retire. So Diego vs Alves is filling that void, i think it could be a good scrap, of course im behind Diego 100%. Since those 2 losses he got, i think hes learned humility and hes matured a bit, hope he becomes a great fighter one day.

  4. Amir says:

This is a great fight but really weak-*** “co-main event”.
I’m sure many of us are looking forward to Bisping vs. Leben, but as a main event? hmmmm not so sure…they better add some more umph to this card if I’m going to buy it.

Which brings me to asking Joe Silva once again…

WHERE AND WHEN THE F— IS NATE QUARRY FIGHTING NEXT???

  5. R.J. St.Croix says:

im liking some of the match making these days, im not sure who i like in this one. i would say Diego but Alves is a beast, it should be a good fight.

There is no comparison…. its gonna be a good fight won by the bigger stornger man Thiago Alves!! He has gotten extremly better since his fight against Jon Fitch! When Deigo and Fitch fought it wasnt cloe at all! Diego was getting beat badly on the ground! As far as him getting Thiago down its gonna be alot harder then he thinks because now Thiago has take down defense and he is way stronger then Diego! Even if he did get him on the grond, it would be just like Hughes, getting held in Thiago’s guard and the ref standing it up! Diego still dont have any striking, he just got lucky and fought some no name guys who arent even in the top 25 welterwieght division! He has never seen power like what Thiago possesses now!! Thiago is gonna shut down Diego when he tries to take him down and then destroy him on stand up, because I know Diego is gonna try to come out at first and prove his stand up!! I say a pretty exciting fight, but Thiago wins by ko late 2nd or early 3rd round!! Then he goes on to fight GSP, which mite be the fight of the year, of course that means I know GSP will beat BJ Penn too lol!!

the big question is can Alves make weight for his next fight and continue making weight every time after? it would not be good for his career if he could manage to win the title but not be able to make weight and defend it.
