According to Keith Jardine, UFC 89 this October will feature a light heavyweight matchup between the “Dean of Mean” and Brandon Vera.

Jardine last fought at UFC 84 where he was quickly KO’d in the first round by Wanderlei Silva.

Brandon Vera is coming off a lackluster victory against Reese Andy at UFC Fight Night 14 which was preceded by a loss to Fabricio Werdum in the first round at UFC 85.

The fight has yet to be confirmed by the UFC.

UFC 89 is currently scheduled for October 18 in Birminham, England and will be headlined by a middleweight fight between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben.

hummmm… that fight might be interesting. i gonna say right now if this fight happens it sound like a confidence booster for Vera. with Jardines lack of real KO power and suspect chin Vera probably wont be scared to exchange with him, and with almost 0% chance Jardine will try to take it to the ground Vera can let go with the knees and kicks and work the Muay Thai game. i see a KO win late round one early round two for Vera.

i also heard a rumor that they might be putting Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote for the middle weight title as the headliner for UFC89 AND it might be free! the story is that SPIKE TV doesnt want to pay the big bucks for big shows with no title fights, the only title fight SPIKE TV aired live was Rampage vs. Henderson and they want more, and the story behind Silva vs. Cote is that Okami broke his hand and wont be ready in time for Silva to fight again.

This is a contract cutter for one of these guys…

I wonder was Wand is up to?? I think he is saving himself for the end of the year perhaps for Chuck or Rampage, possibly Forrest…

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah your probably right, i can see Jardine looking for a new promotion to call home soon. Jardine is to hit and miss so its hard for him to be built in to a champ and even if he won every fight ever hes still not very marketable, hes not over the top like Tito or humble like Anderson, hes not talented like St.Pierre or intimidating Wand, he doesnt have that pretty boy look like Huerta, hes just Jardine and in the world of MMA being a good fighter SHOULD be enough to get the contract and the money but as we all know thats just not the way it is. im gonna say right now that if Jardine gets beat by Vera and doesnt put on one hell of a show he’ll the next cut.

RUMOR: Fedor vs Arlovski on oct 11????

Strange, i thought they would have matched Fedor up with Barnett.. Maybe they just want to have Fedor beat up the old UFC guys?? Showing that they have the better fighters (which they definately do at HW).

    • MMKansas says:

Why would they match Fedor with a flabby out of shape Barnett with no American fan base, (casual that is) when they can match him up against Andrei who is coming off his best most agressive performance in over a year and a half, has a great look, and has a North American fan base, not to mention if Fedor shreds him… it will be the second consecutive form Heavy Weight Champion he has destroyed… nice.. running through them and showing the world that Fedor can beat any UFC fighter is really what they are proving… which can really get a fans attention and thus DRAW attention to Affliction… Randy is too old to fight Fedor now.. it should have happened 24 months ago… Randy will get taken at his current age and condition, he will get hurt, and it will retire him not because Fedor is the end all but because he will be humiliated out of the ring.. I hope that fight doesn’t happen..

      • bvrasp says:

Its just that Barnett vs Fedor has been a long awaited matchup that never materialized and i always wanted to see that fight. Oh and Barnett has always been flabby hehe.

Ofcourse i see the strategy in having Fedor beat up the ex UFC guys, so the fight vs Arlovski makes alot of sense from a business perspective.

I think after Fedor submits Arlovski we will finally get to see Josh take a stab at Fedor. I doubt Fedor will be able to submit Josh considering Nog couldnt, but im sure Fedor will out work him and score a TKO, or possibly even a standing KO.

        • MMAKansas says:

I know Barnett has always been flabby.. but he’s never had a Western appeal… a real hero for hardcore fans.. but nobody in the casual fan base has ever heard of him..

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

ive never really been much of a Barnett fan and ive always seen him as kind of a sloppy fighter. like BV said i dont see Barnett being submitted but i do see the fight hitting the ground and Fedor scoring a KO with some brutal grand and pound.
