  • Robbie Lawler came out and fought a smart fight against Scott Smith. In my book Smith took the first round on points, but didn’t do any significant damage to Lawler who was finding his range and getting his pace settled. In round 2 Lawler came alive and turned up the heat even more once he was cut again on the head. Not sure if Smith cracked a rib or not, but Lawler’s knees appeared to hit in just the right spots as he retained his EliteXC middleweight belt.
  • It certainly was nice to see Nick Diaz show up in good shape and fight a good fight once again. Give credit to Thomas Denny for standing in the pocket with Diaz, especially in the final minute of the first round. I’m not sure how Denny stayed standing and made it into round two. A nice solid fight for Diaz in front of his hometown crowd.
  • I hope Jake Shields can forgive me for picking against him against Nick Thompson. Shields, once again, absolutely dominated in this fight and definitely deserves to be wearing the EliteXC welterweight belt. There are half-a-dozen welterweights in the UFC I would love to see Shields take on so we can really see where in the top ten standings he belongs.
  • EliteXC poster girl Gina Carano better hope she doesn’t get matched up against Chris Cyborg in her upcoming fight in October because she will get brutally KO’d in my opinion. After watching Cyborg dismantle Shayna Baszler last night, I don’t see how Carano can do much against her. As my wife said while watching the fight, “that lady [Cyborg] hits like a man.” I don’t know if it comes from training at Chute Boxe or not, but Cyborg’s strength and hand speed are excellent. Very impressive performance.
  • Nice to see Antonio Silva finally get some recognition and capture the initial EliteXC heavyweight title. Sure, Justin Eilers isn’t the toughest opponent, but Silva deserves everything he has earned so far.
  • How nice was it not to have to see Gary Shaw or his son Jared’s mugs up in the camera at every possible opportunity.
  • I thought it was another solid commentating performance by Gus Johnson and Frank Shamrock. Now, if Mauro Renallo could tone down the superlatives a bit it’d be perfect. I know Renallo’s background is in pro wrestling, but sometimes he is just so over the top. Funny, but still over the top.

i get that people (hardcore fans) dont like EliteXC because its “B-class, low level” fighters and some weirdness in one or two shows, but come on tell me those fights where not entertaining. remember why you loved PRIDE, because the fighters came in a threw down and it was wild and fun. we need that again, i need that. im getting tired of MMA snobs talking sh*t about B-level fighters like Kimbo getting put in matches with other B-level like Thompson and getting the main event, i understand if your paying $40 or $50 to watch you want to get the best for your money but if its free and your sitting home just watching the tube, sh*t man just throw on the fight and kick back and enjoy it who cares who it is if its fun to watch and its free.

I agree 100% RJ, especially about Kimbo, everyone hates him.. is it his fault that he whooped peoples *** in the backyard? is it his fault that Elite decided to throw tons of money at him and market him like a champ?

Everyone knows hes not a martial arts trained fighter, including Kimbo himself. Considering the way he looks and where he comes from, hes an AMAZINGLY humble guy, he always says hes a baby in the sport and hes here to learn and work hard.

People hate on Kimbo because theyre haters.. thats all.. theyre mad that hes doing well for himself, theyre mad at his money, theyre mad at his exposure.

We all know where he stands in the technical aspect, but look at Tim Sylvia, he wasnt a streetfighter, he was just a big dude, he buckled down and worked hard and accomplished something only a handful of other guys were able to do..

I say good luck Kimbo, the tougher opponents are coming soon and though it may seem like hes being protected, they are actually rushing him into this sport when hes not even close to ready.

on a lighter note the fights where awesome. lol.

The fights were VERY entertaining.. you hit it dead on RJ. That IS what Pride was about, it wasnt all about the W, except for some of the Gracie guys who would do anything not to lose. Including not tapping out to submissions, i mean ya it shows heart, but if the guy got you, he got you man.. suck up the pride, tapout and give the guy credit.

Thats why i was a fan of Matsui, kid was a warrior man, though he lost alot more fights than he won, he never backed down from anyone! He stood toe to toe with Igor, he went the distance with Wandy, Newton, Belfort, Chonan, Filho, Kondo.. i mean, thats an accomplishment in itself..

look at McFedries, probably one of my fav fighters in the UFC right now, win or lose, you know your in for a great fight thats not getting past the 1st round.

LMAO the grass is greener on the other side…. unless Fedors been there then the grass is soaked in blood and tears LOL. Fedor once finished the song that never ends lol. yeah most of those ARE ripped off from the Chuck Norris thing, but there still funny as hell.

      • richard says:

the best ones are, fedors not hung like a horse a horse is hung like fedor and fedor once punched a guy in the soul.

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

or how bout “Fedor once broke the law, and it never healed” lol

        • bvrasp says:

ya, they originally made that list about chuck norris, but with Fedor its actually true hehe.

my fav, Fedors watch has no numbers on it, it just says “time to kick ***” lol.
