Current EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva has tested positive for the banned substance Boldenone and has been suspended for twelve months and fined $2,500 by the California State Athletic Commission.
Silva tested positive after the EliteXC: Unfinished Business event last month where he won the title by defeating Justin Eilers via TKO. Two separate samples tested by different, independent laboratories both came back positive for the banned substance. Boldenone is the same substance Phil Baroni, Stephan Bonnar, and Kit Cope all tested positive for in the past.
In addition, Edwin Dewees tested positive for the banned substance Nandrolone, an anabolic steroid and was suspended for twelve months and fined $2,500 by the CSAC.
Dewees was tested after his TKO loss to Antonio Nogueira at the Affliction: Banned event. Again, two seperate labs tested two different samples with both testing positive. Nandrolone is the same substance that Sean Sherk, Royce Gracie, and Pawel Nastula all tested positive for in the past.
Both Silva and Dewees have the opportunity to file an appeal with the CSAC and have their case heard at a later date.
