EliteXC and CBS team up for the third of four contracted events this Saturday night with the EliteXC: Heat fight card. The night will feature the EliteXC welterweight title up for grabs as well as former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski on loan from Affliction.

Kevin Ferguson vs Ken Shamrock – I’m not really sure how or why I should even begin to analyze this fight. I’m still not sold on Kevin Ferguson; I think he’ll ultimately be a mid-level heavyweight fighter but he’s not there yet until he gets a halfway decent ground game. Ken Shamrock is not in the proper mental or physical state to still be fighting MMA against people with the power of Ferguson. I really don’t know how people are even giving Shamrock any consideration in this fight. Shammy has only won one fight since 2001 and doesn’t stand a chance in this fight. First round KO for “Kimbo.” Winner: Kevin Ferguson
Jake Shields vs Paul Daley – The fight I’m most looking forward to seeing is this welterweight title fight between Jake Shields and Paul Daley. You may have not heard of or seen Daley fight before, but he is an excellent fighter who could give Shields a tough test if the fight stays on the feet. Daley actually left EliteXC last year and entered a short retirement before returning to the promotion for a shot at the title. Unfortunately for Daley, Jake Shields is the real deal and is probably one of the top five welterweights in the world. Look for Shields to take Daley down and work his trademark submission game to retain his title. Winner: Jake Shields

Andrei Arlovski vs Roy Nelson – As much as Roy Nelson doesn’t look like a decent fighter, he actually is a very tough heavyweight who has held his own against some solid competition. That being said, he has never fought someone on Andrei Arlovski’s level. Arlovski has the edge in every area of the fight, and seems to have his desire back after his last performance against Ben Rothwell. I look for an exciting exchange of punches on the feet and for this fight to end in the second round. Winner: Andrei Arlovski

Gina Carano vs Kelly Kobald – For me, the big question here is whether or not Gina Carano makes weight. Kelly Kobald has the edge in experience going 16-0-1 before losing her last two fights. One of those losses was against Julie Kedzie who Carano defeated in February of 2007. For that reason I give Carano the edge in this fight. Winner: Gina Carano

Maurilo Rua vs Benji Radach – Benji Radach enjoyed a bit of resurgence his career in 2007 winning five of his six fights in the IFL. Radach has good punching power with 14 of his 18 wins coming via TKO. Murilo Rua was the first EliteXC middleweight champion but lost the belt in his first title defense against Robbie Lawler. As any Chute Boxe member, Rua specializes in his BJJ game and will most likely try to control the fight on the mat. This fight really could go either way and should be a good one to watch. In the end, I’m taking Radach in an upset. Winner: Benji Radach

I wouldnt say Ken has NO CHANCE, i mean, if you think about it Ken is the more technical fighter on the ground and even standing. Kens main problem has always been the mental aspect of fighting, if he even once executed a good gameplan he would have alot more success in his more recent fights.

The problem here is even if he executes the perfect gameplan, hes not just fighting Kimbo, hes got Bas to contend with. If Bas wasnt around AND Ken fought a smart fight, he could have submitted Kimbo by heel hook. Ofcourse, Bas IS involved and im sure atleast 50% of Kimbos training is defense against leg locks, since you dont have to worry about Ken trying gator rolls and gogoplatas, hes pretty one dimensional as a grappler.

Its all a moot point because we all know Ken doesnt implement gameplans anyways. Hes gonna try and stand with Kimbo and get KOed in the 1st, but ofcourse you can never count anyone out in this game… wow imagine Ken won? then what?
