With his victory over Chris Leben at UFC 89, the general consensus is that Michael Bisping will be the next in line for a shot at Anderson Silva’s UFC middleweight title.

anyone who votes yes here is stupid… bisbing blows the bing dong
hey Doc, can you tell who voted yes or no? if you can dont tell Patrick i voted yes, ok? LOL.
of course I can man. I can tell everything that goes on at MMA HQ.
i dont necessarily think Bisping deserves a shot, but i do think he should get one. with the middle weight division being so thin in the talent department i think they need as many contenders as they can get there hands on, i dont think they should do rematches unless they have good reason for it (close/controversial decision, loser becomes number 1 again) like i wouldnt mind seeing Anderson rematch Marquardt and Hendo but not until he beats a few new faces and with Cote in a week from now and Okami probably shortly after im sure they’ll be looking to do a rematch right after but why not give him a Bisping or any other middleweight for that matter, let him truly clear out the division befor he retires and leave no question that he is the best middleweight the UFC has ever seen.
This division is getting thinned out fairly quickly, I think that is ONE of the reasons the UFC is pushing Anderson to take 205lb fights, to give younger middleweights time to season up for title shots, you give em’ to early you get what happened to Leben over and over…
i dont even mind seeing Silva do that to people (referring to the Leben fight) just as long as it not Leben over and over. there IS someone out there whos not a top 3 guy, that we’re not thinking of that could beat Anderson (theres gotta be lol) so instead of making them fight a hundred times to get there how about just skip that step all together and just start lining them up outside the cage for Silva. Anderson said he would like to fight 6 or 7 times a year, so why not, who cares if they ALL get crushed, it’ll be fun to watch… and thats really what its about, putting on a good show for the fans right?
Well i do, I would much rather see a fight like Chuck v Wandy than a fight that ends quickly like Silva v Leben – not all fans like those 30 second Tyson wins – although I must say it was quite gratifying to see Wand end Jardine in 36 seconds — :)
i also voted yes,i say who else is left in the 185lb division, and if patrick cote got a shot then there should be no problems with bisbing.
Listen guys, I was the guy a year ago SCREAMING about the unfairness of TITO getting another title shot ect – I don’t like it when people get title shots based on “thats really what its about, putting on a good show for the fans” which basically puts MMA on a wrestling only real level. If it ever is going to become a SPORT it needs to be based on RANKINGS, and WINS, and NOT on popularity only or personality or expansion into a country for the purposes of only making a profit. SPORT v SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT = TWO DIFFERENT THINGS – and I think Bisping has NOT earned a shot because WHO THE HECK HAS HE REALLY FOUGHT AT 185??????????????? Lets see him fight a guy that Silva has beaten besides Leben, how about ohhhh sayyyyy DAN HENDERSON or perhaps a fight with RICH FRANKLIN dropping back down??? A former title holder first, then THE title holder… don’t just GIVE him the shot based on “WHY NOT” .. lol
but the ufc is based on giving guys shots that dont deserve it who did anderson silva faught before he got a shot what about brock lesnar?
i fully understand what your saying about it being legit sport therefor the best should fight the best and new faces should work there way up, that is the formula for most combat sports, but my thought was that no combat sport have ever really been mainstream (not even boxing) and the sports that are mainstream are the ones that everyone will meet everyone in the course of a season. lets use hockey as the example, if the Montreal Canadians are in first place and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in last it doesnt mean they cant or wont compete against each other, they still meet and it gives Montreal and chance to improve there hold over the top spot and it gives Toronto the chance to build them selves up by beating the best team and by the end of the year you might see them being #1 and #2 instead of #1 and #27, so just because Joe Blow cant beat Bisping doesnt mean he cant beat Anderson because the way to find the “real” best is for everyone to fight everyone and the guy who lost the least is the best. just the way i see it anyway.
One more thought on Bisping v Leben – - Leben needs to learn to lay back a bit and draw his opponents in.. if he would have been more patient in the 1st round, he could have FORCED Bisping to move in (he would have after hearing boos for inactivity from the HOME crowd) and then Leben could have landed the left- instead he just pushed forward over and over and over — wandy changed his game recently which I actually thought was pretty good, he waited and baited Jardine, and when Jardine felt the pressure to move in, Wand opened up on his holes and exploited Jardines movements, he countered and took the fight right off… I think Leben as a power puncher should learn to diversify his game as well and soon before 30 so we can see him fight for the title again, otherwise we might see him as a gatekeeper and nothing more than..
If Anderson Silva’s retirement isn’t a bunch of bull ****, I will be extremely pissed off if his last few fights are against Cote and Bisbing. He says he’s done everything he could hope to do in MMA but for him to think that is quite astonishing, considering there is still a whole other weight class that he is obviously capable of fighting in. If he wants to be remembered as the uncontested best pound for pound fighter out there, guys like Liddell, Silva or any big name in the 205 division would be ideal. Too bad him and Machida are friends, that would be the technical match of our lifetime.
there was a interesting fight floating a round {bj penn vs anderson silva}but dana white said no fu#king way ,i mention this cuz theres only so many guys anderson could fight without the higher ups stepping in the way
I personally said NO to this, though theres not many guys in the division, that shouldnt be an excuse to throw Bisping to the wolves this early as a MW. He would get crushed and he wouldnt be at a level where he could learn something from the loss, it would just be pointless in my opinion.
If the division is weak, they should scout more MW talent, theres alot of guys out there in different organizations they could draw from. This way they could intrigue Anderson by giving him a real test thereby making him train even harder. Righ now he never gets to fight, hes so bored in the UFC hes planning retirement for gods sake lol.
with elitexc out the game now what about lawler hes a pertty good striker the only 185er i see beating silva, and i know im going to get some **** for this one,is kung le maybe?
