The lightweight title fight between current Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson and challenger Yves Edwards will have to wait as Thomson broke his toe and had to withdraw from the fight this week. The matchup was scheduled to be the main event for Strikeforce: Destruction on November 21 in San Jose, CA.
Edwards and Thomson had fought once before, a TKO victory by Edwards at UFC 49 back in 2004. Thomson won the Strikeforce belt by defeating Gilbert Melendez last June and has only fought once since then in a non-title fight. Edwards last fought in an EliteXC lightweight title fight against KJ Noons back in June where he lost via TKO in under a minute.
Duane Ludwig will step in to replace Thomson and face Edwards on short notice. Ludwig just fought on October 3 in Strikeforce where he defeated Sam Morgan via TKO in the first round.
