- Like it or not, Brock Lesnar is the new UFC heavyweight champion. Most critics who predicted a Lesnar victory said Lesnar would win because his huge size advantage over Randy Couture. In the end, that had nothing to do with it as Lesnar won the fight on his feet with striking. Couture held his own through the first round while Lensar was on top of him. Brock simply caught Randy with the perfect strike and pounded out the veteran.
- It’s amazing to think that we have a new heavyweight champion with a record of only 3-1, but Lesnar showed he belongs competing with the upper level heavyweights. Lesnar definitely beats Mir in a rematch and, in my opinion, probably beats Nogueira as well.
- I’m already seeing rumblings about Kenny Florian’s win over Joe Stevenson as being “tainted” because he grabbed the fence during a takedown attempt. This is simply laughable as Florian completely dominated Stevenson and won the fight easily, regardless of the fence-grab. A Florian vs B.J. Penn fight will be entertaining, but I think Penn wins that fight.
- As I said in my preview article, “Nate Quarry simply isn’t good enough to defend against Demian Maia’s submission game.” Maia is unbelievable on the ground and makes it look so easy. A fight against Michael Bisping would be a good one, but I think Zuffa will think long and hard before putting that fight together.
- Once again, Dustin Hazelett continues to impress with his submission game and made quick work of Tamdan McCrory. If you don’t enjoy ground fighting like that, you shouldn’t be watching MMA.
- How did Rafael dos Anjos not see that uppercut coming from Jeremy Stephens? That bomb was telegraphed from the next state, but still hit the mark and dropped dos Anjos in devastating fashion.
- I still can’t stand the guy, but it was nice to see Jorge Gurgel put on a solid performance against Aaron Riley.
- Leave it to Joe Rogan to refer to the north-south position as the “smell my butt position.” Classic.
- How nice was it to actually see every fight on the fight card during a UFC PPV broadcast! Reminded me of the old PrideFC days…
- Raise your hand if you think that kid wearing the “Brock Lesnar’s Number One Fan” shirt is going to grow up and become the new “Just Bleed” guy.

big nog has lesnars number, but as i right this im bald i bet my hair on couture to win and now i look like a ugly nut sack.oh and by the way i hate gurgel and i picked that fight perfectly.placing 3rd in the camp this time around
you and i both brother… i knew my hatred for Bi-Curious Jorge would pay off someday lol.
WTF was the ufc doing interviewing 50 cent?
lol. he did some kind of new music video for them. you can see it on the ufc’s page on youtube.
great…. i cant stand brock the **** lesnar….ugh this is so dissappointing…..randy you tard…. ugh!!!!!
As is obvious most people dont like lesnar among the hardcore fans, but I was really impressed with the way he handled his victory, respectfully. After he won he showed Couture nothing but respect, and that is what UFC needs in its champions. Respectfully, agreeable people outside of the ring but unmerciful brutes in the ring, which I believe brock may be, judging by last night.
i will give props to Lesnar for his win AND he demeanor after, it looked to me like he went over to Randy and said “sorry for the sh*t talking before the fight” so he knows how to sell a fight and he can be humble too. i wish i could find it now, but i remember saying when i first heard Brock got signed by the UFC that “Brock will do well and he will see a title shot SOON” although i didnt expect it to be that soon AND i didnt really expect him to win, but like i said props to Brock for getting the job done and good luck to anyone trying to take the title away.
Nice to see the guys on our site are gracious in defeat as well as victory. I feel the same way, great job by Lesnar, he won the stand up game, he won the ground game and it wasnt some lucky shot that connected on Randy. Lesanr landed a couple stiff shots that looked really bad, especially those 3 knees wow, imagine taking one of those. He displayed incredible progress since his first fight against Mir and hes clearly worked his *** off for this win.
No hate here, Lesnars the man and like everyone says, imagine what hes gonna be like in 2-3 years from now.. I wonder if this big win will finally cause Kurt Angle to step into the cage instead of just talking about it.
Imagine Kurt angle vs Brock Lesnar for the UFC HW title! lol man.. no matter what miracles happen, the sport of MMA never ceases to amaze me, best sport ever!
I picked lesnar to win on playground and in Doc’s poll simply because he is too big, too strong, and a wrestler, so he really wasn’t easily pent up like Randy likes to do to other big guys, and he’s hard to get on his back.
I agree Doc, Brock takes Mir in a rematch … now about Noguira, I completely disagree – - 100% and adamantly so –
Nog is 241lbs and can beef up to 245 – 250 easily, he is taller than Randy AND taller than Brock – Nog is 6ft 4in – Randy is only 6ft 1in — Brock is only 6ft 3in —
Nog has a legend chin and none of Brocks shots that rocked Randy would’ve done the same to Nog – I mean who’s beaten Nog in the past 5 years? Fedor and Barnett? No shame there – I think in striking Nog lets Brock wear himself down, if he takes Nog down, submission Nog — I really want to see this fight happen.
I gotta agree with you Kansas, im with Nog all the way too.. alot of people are seeing Lesnar as unbeatable because of this win, it was a great win, but nobody is unbeatable and we still havent seen Brock taken into the deep waters of the 4th and 5th round. Though we did see his chin get tested last night and its pretty solid, he doesnt have the footwork of a boxer yet, but hes got HEAVY hands man.
That being said, i think Nog wins that fight by submission, assuming we dont get another surprise with Mir beating Nog. Imagine that, Brock vs Mir 2 for the HW title LOL. Nothing surprises me anymore in the world of mma…..
yeah one if the things that Brock has in his advantage is that power, its not a good plan to exchange with Brock…. EVER, im not going to say Brock is any kind of striker but if exchange with him your rolling the dice for sure, because if he tags you it’ll probably turn out bad. i said to my brother-in-law last night “dont be surprised if we see Brock go on a bit of a tear until someone figures him out.” and im going to stand by that statement. Nog will need to avoid slugging with Brock and try to NOT let Lesnar beat his face in because as we seen last night after he hurt Couture he pounced quick and the hammerfist at the end were not the most devastating shots but they were enough to get the ref to call an end. if Lesnar can tag Nog and put him on his asss and do the same as he did to Randy we could see “Brock Lesnar: undisputed heavyweight champion” and think about the top ten rankings after Lesnar beats the #2 guy in the world.
@RJ
So basically your saying Brock has very little skill but “lunchbox hands” so he has a punchers chance of winning?
I am still going with BIG Nog, I think Brock will get taken down unexpectedly like Tim Sylvia and subbed pretty easily.
I don’t see Mir beating Nog, anything could happen, but nahh, never been the same since that accident. If it were like the Mir from before the accident, OMG I would probably be undecided and leaning towards Mir, but in this case, I really feel that Nog will beat him and then sub Lesnar.
yeah im gonna say the lunchboxes he carries and the power he swings them with makes him dangerous, AND im still gonna say both Nog or Mir would sub Brock…. given the right game plan. you cant let Lesnar punch you solid in the head, hes got too much brute strength (sort of like taking a slap from a silverback lol) and as good as Nogs chin is, if Brock drops him and dives into a good position it doesnt matter how hurt hes not, 30 or 40 hammerfist will get the ref jumpy.
i said awhile back that Brock should do well just based on the idea that the UFC is built for wrestlers and Brock is a very big strong wrestler, now add that to the fact that you got a 50/50 shot at being put to sleep on your feet with him and that makes him a tough go for anyone.
I don’t see Mir beating Nog in any way. But, I wouldn’t put Nog past Lesnar that quickly.
