For those of you lucky enough to have HDNet, you were able to catch last nights Strikeforce: Destruction event in San Jose, CA. Overall, what initially looked like an exciting fight card ended up not delivering on its promise.
- In the main event Scott Smith made quick work of Terry Martin. Martin left himself open to a quick counter by Smith and hit the canvas like a sack of rocks.
- Renato Sobral won his first title by defeating former light heavyweight champion Bobby Southworth. The whole first round was your standard clinch match against the cage until Sobral landed a powerful elbow to Southworth’s head that opened up a big cut over his right eye. In between the first and second round, the doctor’s stopped the fight making Sobral the winner by TKO due to doctor’s stoppage.
- What many people were expecting to be an exciting fight between Yves Edwards and Duane Ludwig ended up being a technical, strategic battle. Ludwig ended up winning the unanimous decision 29-28, but I personally think Edwards won the fight 2 rounds to 1.
- Kim Couture picked up her first official professional victory in an amusing fight against Lina Kvokov. Even though it was only Couture’s second fight, Kvokov still had no business being in the cage with last night. In fact, Kvokov looked like she should not ever enter the cage again as she consistently turned her back to Couture and looked like someone found her the night before and asked if she’d be interested in fighting.
- Joe Riggs looked good in his second round TKO victory over Luke Stewart. Stewart controlled the first round on the ground but Riggs was able to avoid any serious submission attempts. In the second round, Riggs was finally able to let his hands go and drop Stewart to the mat and finish the fight.

Man, can anyone put up the clip of Terry Martin getting KO’d, as usual?
That guy is going to have some serious brain damage in his old age…I don’t think I know any other fighter who gets viciously and brutally KO’d on a monthly basis
Amir, you gotta wait through the intros, fighters walking to the cage, commentating and etc. before the fight. I suggest you skip the video forward as its buffering to about halfway through the video, so heres the link.

So the big rumor today, Chuck vs Randy 4 in germany. Doesnt sound too far fetched but the odd thing is, it wont be at LHW, instead chuck will be making the move to HW. This doesnt make much sense to me guys, after all these years, why would chuck want to move up? especially considering hes on the biggest losing streak of his career.
Looks like theyre finally scrapping the Anderson vs Chuck fight and instead he will likely face the winner of Wandy/Rampage which could be an amazing fight either way. I like this matchup better than Chuck, but still, Chuck at HW? hmm.. i dont like it..
i didnt hear that one yet. makes you wonder what Chucks motivation for moving up is, i just dont see him winning the heavyweight title and if its just for the sake of Randy/Chuck 4 i dont know they should bother, what if Randy wins are we gonna see Chuck/Randy 5? now Anderson vs. the winner of Wand/Rampage THAT sounds like a whole bunch of awesome.
Okay BV, come back down to reality, the winner of Wand V Rampage should not be dropping down a weight class, they should be competing for the title in THEIR weight class, one held the Pride title for 5 years at LHW the other held the UFC LHW title and is on the comeback trail, so fighting Anderson Silva would be a step down for either of them simply because of the weight class, if either lost to him, it would be detrimental to their career, and to the UFC’s sell ability of the Ramapage, Axe Murderer product.
On Couture V Liddell at LHW, they aren’t expecting Randy to make it through that fight, in their eyes he is going to lose, and Church just has to go from that fight to Lesnar… in my opinion they are trying to either rid themselves of Couture at an old age, and his heavy contract, or they are trying to resurrect Chuck, or both, for super fights with Lesnar that could yield big money, and are thinking they could possibly preserve Chuck at HW … people were talking about him moving up LAST YEAR to fight Cro Cop, why not now???? Against a wrestler like Lesnar, he would def, have a gooooood chance.. I like the idea.
Kansas, the idea is for Anderson to move UP to 205, not for Wandy or Rampage to move down to 185, i thought that was obvious….
As for Chuck moving up, i personally think Chuck will get smashed at HW because he doesnt have the control that Randy does. Lesnar can hold him down and we have all seen how heavy his shots are, he might Knock Chuck out with one shot as we saw from Rampage and Evans. Besides Lesnar, who could Chuck fight at HW? Shane Carwin? lol, nah man.. Chuck isnt built for HW considering his style of fighting. Hes having a hard enough time not getting KOed in his own weight class let alone giving up 60-80 lbs to his opponents.. in my opinion its just a bad move for Chuck.
Now if he moves up and has one fight with Randy and drops back down, thats fine and it makes alot of sense, but going for the title at HW? no way man, he doesnt have a prayer ;)
“going for the title at HW? no way man, he doesnt have a prayer ;)”
Same thing everyone said about Couture, sometimes a little time off, and a move up or down can shift the mindset and confidence in a fighter… I think your comment is over confident, I think Chuck would distance, and move in and out, stick and move, and sprawl and possibly win against Lesnar, and if he doesn’t, then they can get Chucks heavy contract off as well.. looks like the UFC might be cleaning house, it’s a business, and Chuck/Randy are getting to be old war horses, that aren’t going to have much pull after another couple losses man.
;)
Kansas, ofcourse anything can happen in a fight, its just my personal opinion that Chuck wouldnt make it in the HW div. Like i said, 1 fight with Randy and move back down. He was a good striker and dominated for a long time, but people have figured out his style and hes definately lost a step. I just dont see a future for Chuck at HW thats all..
Id rather just see him fight Wandy 10 more times hehe
kansas
u shouldnt be putting rampage and liddel in the same boat,cuz u really be imbarrased when rampage ko’s wandy.
are you just saying that to piss off Kansas or do you really think Rampage has what it takes….. this time?
R.J.
After watching Rampages last two times with Wand, Wand’s new found confidence, and Rampages WONDERFUL performance and focused life pre and post Forrest, I cannot wait for the 3rd go with Wand… I do think that you are just stirring this up, but go ahead, you haven’t a leg to stand on and you know it…
@BV
I would love to see a Chuck v Wand rematch, 10 times if you will… that rematch would look something like Wand V Jardine, because Chuck would look to finish this time, and Wand would be more aggressive … so bring it on.. Chuck couldn’t knock Wand down with a shot in that fight, but Wand did knock Chuck down, twice I believe… I would love to see that rematch.. If Chuck V Wand had gone down like Wand V Rampage (take your pick both were brutal) then I would say Chucks just got his number, but since Chuck cannot finish fights anymore, I wouldn’t give him the win at all…
I think it would go like St. Pierre V Hughes # Two only via strikes….
@RJ
He’s trying to make me mad… hehe… I don’t blame him, without me arguing on here this site starts getting mundane, it consists of R.J and BV with an occasional Richard or Patrick stepping in, and the other half of the time its BV commenting, asking questions, then answering them himself.. lol
(Sorry that one about Quintin “I like to eat knees” Jackson was meant for Richard aka ***) … hahahahaha
@Kansas,
Whats with this comment? What Richard said must have really bugged you, cuz its like your attacking the whole site saying its mundane unless your here. Lately youve had this troll gatties type attitude towards everyone and i dont know why. You post things like, i dont care what you guys think, im gonna keep coming to this site, etc..
You act like everyone is against you, but nobody wants you to leave the site man, i dont know where you got that idea.
You used to argue with Richard all the time, so why so sensitive all of a sudden? You said my name twice in that post, saying half the comments on the site are mine but if you notice i dont have that many more comments than you do.
Probably everytime i ask a question in a post i DO answer it myself, for example:
“who do you guys like in BJ vs GSP? im picking BJ because etc…..”
So whats wrong with that?
i dont say things on here unless i mean them,i do think rampage is going to win against wandy the third time around,and this new found wandy ur talking about koed KEITH JARDINE my friend someone who has been on the oppeset end of a very ko plenty of times.i just think liddel and rampage are at the same points in there carrer,liddel towards the end and rampage maybe cresting.
As for Wandy vs Rampage 3, its a whole different fight than the first 2 in pride were. Rampage is a much more difficult opponent than he used to be, hes actually TRAINING for fights these days. Hes making more money and taking MMA more seriously, these two factors have put him one step closer to his full potential as a fighter.
Wanderlei has also improved in the scientific sense of his training/nutrition regimen. The problem is Wandy has taken alot more damage than Rampage has over the years and hes got tons of scar tissue, old injuries, etc..
I can say with 100% confidence that Rampage will be coming in as the favorite in this fight as far as the betting lines are concerned.
BUT, regardless of all that, im STILL picking Wandy to win!! I think hes in Rampages head, plus i think hes just mentally stronger than Rampage in general.
i have to agree with being in rampages head.as for betting odds i like rampage to win but i would of guessed it would be a underdog bet since wandy has beaten rampage twice before
Thats true Richard, but that was in Pride, in the UFC Wandy is 1-1 and Rampage is the ex-champ. It might not make sense, but thats how its gonna be, i personally think its a toss up.
man martin went down hard.i have no idea why the released smith so fast
Thanks a lot BV,
They should let Terry Martin fight Sean Salmon for the future brain damage championship of the world…and the winner gets to face Keith Jardine…lmfao
As for this Chuck Randy 4 thing…cmo’n man…this HAS to be a joke..I’ve heard the rumors but that would be such a stupid, pointless fight…I hope no one in their right mind actually favors something like this.
Man…I’d love to see Scott Smith vs. Nate Quarry or even Chris Leben…
Yea Amir, Scott Smith may not be an amazing all around fighter, but he sure is fun to watch! The UFC releases alot of good fighters and exciting fighters for no reason, i dunno what they were thinking when they cut that guy…
How bout Scott smith vs McFedries? hehe man theres so many great matchups for him..
