Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber will waste little time trying to get his title back as he is expected to fight at WEC 38 this January. Faber was originally rumored to be fighting Jose Aldo, but reports are not confirming that Faber will instead rematch with Jens Pulver.
Faber and Pulver fought previously at WEC 34 in an excellent five-round battle that saw Faber retaining his title by unanimous decision. Since then both fighters lost their next fight, Pulver to Leonard Garcia and Faber to Mike Brown.
WEC 38 is currently expected to take place on January 25 in San Diego, CA. The WEC lightweight title is expected to be on the line that night as current champion Jamie Varner will fight Donald Cerrone. No other fights have yet been reported for the fight card.

if Faber vs. Pulver 2 is half the fight the first one was then it should be a hell of a show. i dont know what it is about WEC for me but it just seems like the minor leagues to me, a lot of other promotions i look at like there peers with the UFC but for some reason not WEC and i dont know why they put on some very entertaining fights. maybe its the Zuffa tie-in they seem like the little UFC, sort of like the OHL and the NHL.
I know what you mean RJ.. but now with EliteXC gone and Dream losing money, WEC will have to carry alot of weight very soon. As it stands right now, they dont have the roster to be anything more than a minor league show.
i see the sport slowly moving in to an era of one big promotion (UFC, no doubt) with a few smaller shows that they pluck any talent from. im ok with it IF they deliver a weekly or bi-weekly show to help to keep things moving along. one of the reasons im for seeing one promotion is the idea that we will get to see more of the best vs. the best, the best football players are in the NFL, the best baseball players are in MLB, the best golfers play in the PGA, but if you look at MMA the best heavyweight is in Affliction, the best of everything else is in the UFC and number 2-10 in every weight class are scattered all over. i was lucky enough to see Michael Jordan vs. Magic Johnson but i will probably never get to see Randy vs. Fedor, this saddens me.
RJ, Ideally thats how it should be, but we all know the UFC doesnt often match the best vs the best like they did in Pride. I think it has to do with your post on the Chuck vs Randy 4 thread. Its about the total fighter payroll for each event and they never let it exceed 1-2 mil, thats why we dont get those stacked cards.. Then again, Pride went out of business and the UFC is #1 lol.
yeah i dont think anyone can dispute that the UFC has the winning formula for making MMA work on a main stream level, but as the newer and casual fans become more educated about the sport i think the demand will grow to see these big fights go down. i was just looking at some videos on youtube about Lesnar vs. Fedor and fans who obviously dont know a whole lot about MMA are starting to pipe up about why Fedor is not part of the UFC yet, so im thinking its just a matter of time before enough people think $50 is just to much to ask for 1 or 2 big fights so at that point it’ll be listen to the fans and there demands or go back to the underground. heres hoping we see the main card filled with top ten guys and the undercard filled with guys trying to make it to the main card someday, let the TUF dropouts fight on a weekly show to work there way onto the P.P.V.
boooooooorrrrrrrrriiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg
Care to elaborate patrick… I watched Pulver/Faber 1 and it was a freakin awesome showcase of athleticism and MMA talent. I will gladly watch Pulver/Faber 2.
its sad that the ufc gots MMA cornered but its reality,if the fighters dont start getting some kind of union,in the end the mma fans will suffer.
if the UFC is going to be the only one left then a fighters union is probably a good idea but as long as there is other promotions fighters will shy away from a union. for some reason a lot of people hate, distrust, and are scared of unions and i kinda understand why (i’ve heard all the reasons) but for every negative point there is a positive.
one of the things i hear a lot is “its not right that if a union comes into your workplace you HAVE to join” and that is true, BUT a union doesnt just come in and take over they must be voted in by a majority vote from your peers. and people say “well i dont want to be a part of it but they MAKE me join” well think about it like this, if the union at your workplace demands everyone get paid $30/hour and they allow the company to hire out side of the union i may come in and take the job at $20/hour, so who is the company going to employ you and your friends or me and mine?
