Fans of Mixed Martial Arts lightweight division are in for a special treat for New Year’s as Eddie Alvarez and Shinya Aoki will fight each other on the K-1 Dynamite!! 2008 fight card. Sherdog.com first reported the news citing Alvarez’s manager Monte Cox as the source.

Alvarez and Aoki are both widely regarded as top five lightweights with many critics ranking them No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, with B.J. Penn being the No. 1 lightweight. It goes without saying that Aoki will look to work his world-class jiu-jitsu while Alvarez will look to use his explosive punching power to land another TKO victory.

The year-ending K-1 show is generally packed with stars and this year will be no different as K-1 and DREAM are teaming up for the Dynamite!! 2008 event at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

Other fights on the card include matches between two other top ten lightweights, Joachim Hansen and Gesias Calvancante. Alistair Overeem will meet Sergei Kharitonov while Kazushi Sakuraba and Kiyoshi Tamura will meet in a fight that is about five years too late in the making.

Also expected to appear on the fight card are Tatsuya Kawajiri, Mitsuhiro Ishida, Atsushi Yamamoto, Nick Diaz, Hayato Sakurai, Ikushisa Minowa, and Masakazu Imanari.
