The UFC kicks into high gear this Wednesday night with the first of three UFC events in the month of December. UFC Fight Night 16: Fight for the Troops will be held in Fayetteville, NC and will feature a three hour live event on SpikeTV benefitting the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

Main Card

Josh Koscheck vs Yoshiyuki Yoshida – Will this fight against Yoshiyuki Yoshida be Josh Koscheck’s last fight in the UFC? We’ll find out soon enough, but for now let’s enjoy the fight to come. Koscheck is coming off a unanimous decision loss against Thiago Alves at UFC 90, a fight that he took on short notice for an injured Diego Sanchez. Koscheck was originally in training for this fight against Yoshida and now we will be able to see how that training has paid off.

Yoshiyuki Yoshida is a judo specialist and is not a fighter to be taken lightly. Yoshida is a strong, technical fighter and should provide a solid matchup for Koscheck; however, Koscheck has the much stronger wrestling game and most likely a stronger striking game as well. Yoshida’s judo advantage will largely be negated by Koscheck’s wrestling and takedowns and Yoshida will most likely be in tough fight no matter where the match takes place. I look for this fight to go to a decision with Kos coming out the victor. Winner: Josh Koscheck

Mike Swick vs Jonathan Goulet – Jonathan Goulet is another one of those fighter that just never has been able to beat top-level or even B-level opponents. Unfortunately for Goulet, Swick is one of those B-level fighters that I think he will struggle with. As cliched as it may sound, Mike Swick is simply too quick for Goulet. Since dropping to welterweight, Swick has won both his fights, most recently against Marcus Davis at UFC 85. Goulet does have some power, but Swick has better hand-speed and a better ground game. Winner: Mike Swick

Matt Wiman vs Jim Miller – Jim Miller took this fight on less then two weeks notice and is replacing an injured Frank Edgar. The big factor for Miller will be conditioning, and if he can come into this fight in decent cardio shape I think he has the tools needed to defeat Matt Wiman. While Miller may not be well known yet, he has excellent ground skills and should be able to work his game against Wiman on the mat. Wiman will have the reach advantage and is riding a wave of momentum after winning his last four fights. Wiman will do all he can to keep this fight on the mat and drag the match into the third round. If conditioning doesn’t become a factor for Miller, I think he takes this fight. Winner: Jim Miller

Steve Cantwell vs Razak Al-Hassan – Steve Cantwell was the final WEC light heavyweight champion after avenging the only loss of his career against Brian Stann at WEC 35 in August. When Zuffa shut down the WEC light heavyweight division, Cantwell was one of the guys they welcomed into the UFC and Cantwell will be making his UFC debut with a record of 6-1. Razah Al-Hussan is also making his UFC debut and brings in a record of 6-0. Cantwell will look to keep the fight standing against Al-Hassan who is a solid grappler. I look for Cantwell to control the pace of the fight early and win a decision victory. Winner: Steve Cantwell

Tim Credeur vs Nate Loughran – Both fighters are making their second appearance for the UFC and both guys are good ground fighters. Credeur may have the slight edge on the feet, but I think Loughran has better skills on the mat. Should be a pretty close fight, but I really haven’t seen enough of either fighter to give one guy a clear advantage. Winner: Nate Loughran

Undercard

Luigi Fioravanti vs Brodie FarberWinner: Luigi Fioravanti
Steve Bruno vs Johnny ReesWinner: Johnny Rees
Ben Saunders vs Brandon WolffWinner: Ben Saunders
Corey Hill vs Dale HarttWinner: Corey Hill
Eddie Sanchez vs Justin McCullyWinner: Eddie Sanchez

why might it be the last fight for koscheck?

  2. Lam says:

Doc, if you are right and all of these fights go the distance we aren’t gonna get to see any of the undercard.

  3. R.J. St.Croix says:

im not going to worry much about spoilers tonight because if your not watching it tonight your probably not watching it and if your checking the internet later you probably looking for results, so this is the one warning spoiler alert ahead…………..

i just read a minute ago that on the Cory Hill/Dale Heartt fight ended 20 seconds in due to an injury and there thinking Hill broke his leg checking a kick. no disrespect to Cory Hill because i really like the guy but i think hes in the wrong line of work, hes ether losing or getting injured and i dont think hes going to have a hall of fame career.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

lol in the commercial for the show tonight Goldy said “tonight on fight for the troops, your gonna learn all about traumatic brain injuries!” or something to that effect lol i love Goldy. i hope he never figures out how to use his brain and think before he speaks lol.

  4. R.J. St.Croix says:

by the way to anyone bored and waiting for the fight to come on, if you tune into spike right now there going to show GSP vs. Penn RIGHT NOW!

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

and yes i realize im the only one here taking to my self, leave me alone i havent posted in a while lol.

      • bvrasp says:

hehe im here RJ, unleashed has been pretty sweet tonight, did you see Babalu vs Chael Sonnen? very nice fight, one they dont show a million times like chuck/randy..

Yup GSP vs BJ, alot of people thought BJ won this fight, i think GSP won because of the takedowns, but BJ really put the hurt on him man!

        • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah i didnt really expect them to show a fight like that, Babalu is not there anymore and Sonnen is just coming back and he loses in it. maybe there just trying to get the fans to know of Sonnen.

  5. bvrasp says:

Im getting hammered on the picks so far man.. i picked Sanchez Hill and Rees.

Joe Rogan is saying Hills injury is the worst hes ever seen in the octagon. I think your right RJ, hes got the height, but thats about it. With leg kicks, you need to condition your legs to absorb that and his legs are like toothpicks. I dont see how he can come back to mma after this because his future opponents will definately take advantage of that.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

yeah man he should have spent the last two years beating the piss out of his legs and using Mauy Thai rollers, but its a bit late now once you get an injury like that its going to be a big kink in your armor forever.

  6. bvrasp says:

dam i missed Farber too, from the play by play looks like it was a complete wrestling clinic and Luigi got something like 7-8 takedowns in the fight so brodie couldnt set up any striking… so far im 1-4 lol this isnt looking good.

  7. bvrasp says:

lol Wiman is looking terrible out there, big mental hole in his game tonight, hes just walking through punches when he doesnt have to, falls right into a guillotine, should have been over right there. If he was fighting someone with heavier hands he would have been KO already….

    • bvrasp says:

thats gotta suck, when you have a full training camp and you gas out, while a guy comes in on short notice and throws you a beating. Knowing the UFC, theyre probably gonna cut Wiman after this performance, he probably doesnt deserve it for 1 bad fight, but theyve been very unforgiving lately.

  8. bvrasp says:

OH ****! did anyone tell Razak that hes allowed to tapout?? thats 2 broken limbs so far tonight, kind of ironic isnt it? considering theyre raising money to help people with injuries lol.

  9. bvrasp says:

oh man! that looked more like a mugging than a professional fight.. daaaaam…

  10. bvrasp says:

unrelated observation here guys.. im in the construction industry and every one of these type of institutions are ridiculously aimed at aesthetics. Instead of dumping all this money in to make a cool looking building they could have made 2 institutions that look plain keeping them strictly utilitarian.

My company did the millwork for the canadian national institute for the blind, no word of a lie, the amount of detail and extravagence was ridicuous. They had marble everywhere, glass extrusions and even a 200 foot long suspended wood ceiling all staggered and tilting in some crazy desing. AND THE PATIENTS ARE BLIND!!! They could have probably made 3 building instead of all that crap and helped triple the amount of patients….

I wonder who the geniuses is behind these ventures are…
