WEC bantamweight Will Ribeiro was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident yesterday in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
According to Ed Soares, Ribeiro’s manager, the accident was caused by slick road surfaces due to recent rain. Ribeiro was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.
“My assistant said that the doctor said for sure that he (Ribeiro) has lost sight in one of his eyes,” Soares said. “He’s still in a coma. After surgery the doctor said there is a 50-50 shot that he will come out of it (survive).
“He’s a very positive guy, very hard-working, a good person,” Soares said of Ribeiro. “He had had a very rough life. His mother passed away like seven years ago and he took over the care of his younger sister. He’s like a father-brother-mother to her … I’m still crushed right now.”
Ribeiro is currently 1-1 in the WEC, defeating Chase Beebe at WEC 34 and recently losing to Brian Bowles at WEC 37.

stay off motorcycles people.!!
TERRIBLE…
the guy was a really great fighter, what a shame and always were helmets.
KANASAS
did u know that wandy is gonna lose against rampage,if u didnt u do now
lol kansas you gotta love richard …. always effen with ya before wandy steps into the cage.!!!!
Cant wait for that fight… who cares about the belts! The Axe vs The Ram should be the main event man. Forrest vs Rashad, ya thats cool, but its not some classic grudge match or anything, its the champ vs #1 contender but not much hype there.
Axe will run through ram… then ave will probably put it on forrest if he gets pass rasheds cocky ***… which i hope he knocks his head off
i mean axe not ave lol
man i sooooooo hope Wand doesnt lose. i still think he’ll whoop Rampage, but this isnt 5 years ago and we are talking about two different fighters now. if this was 2004 i would say Wanderlei will win by complete asss kicking, but with the match happening now its like a whole new match up and you can even use old fights to compare.
Hmmm. RJ I have to say I cannot completely agree, Rampage was Chucks Kryptonite, years ago, and recently.
Seems that some fighters have others’ numbers, and once they are in your head, its hard to shake loose of that. I would say that is true regarding Wand and Jackson, and I think the most approximate fight will show that.
Thats both of us.. I am really pulling for Wanderlei..
Hmmm gotta disagree Richard, seems the odds are a bit stacked against you on this … the logic says that Wand is coming off a 36 second knockout win, while Rampage just lost the title and went through a mental breakdown, which for all intents and purposes looks to still be effecting him, (check all the interviews for that souless blank expression and tone).
Wand has two DEVASTATING knockout wins in Jackson’s head already… this will be a third, then Wandy fights for the title.. wow who would have thought.
:)
man any of yall ever see lions hump…its nasty
lmao…. good times…. good times…. those big ol’kitties can really give er eh?
Man… im just imagining the staredown for Axe vs Ram, thats gonna be worth the ppv alone! lol. One more week.. im hyped for this fight like CRAZY!! havent been this hyped up since Chuck vs Wandy.
This one wont be going the distance guys lol, someones going to SLEEP!
remember when Dana White said “I’ll bet my house this fight doesnt go to the judges!” about Chuck and Wand, well he still has yet to send me the keys to my new house. but if Axe vs. Ram (coined by BV) is anything like Ice vs. Axe i wont mind if it goes the distance.
The thing about Chuck vs Wandy, everyone wanted to see it, but most of the sht talking came from Dana not Chuck. With Rampage theres a real legit beef there, both these guys dont like each other and they have been very vocal about it for years. You figure Rampage would be humbled by now and respect Wandy, but he doesnt, he still thinks Wandy was overrated and protected by Pride, blah blah…
I like Rampage, as a person and as a fighter, but when a guy whos smaller than you knocks you out twice, you should have some respect for his skills. Then again, mutual respect doest sell as many tickets as grudge matches and its not nearly as fun :)
@BV “Then again, mutual respect doest sell as many tickets as grudge matches and its not nearly as fun :)”
Absolutely — here here!
@BV
I think you, me, RJ, AMIR, and Dennis all said the same thing last year when Chuck V Wand happened… hmmm so did Dana.. lol
Now that were getting closer to the fight date, the odds are shifting for Axe vs Ram. At BETUS.COM they have it dead even -120 to -120, ofcourse the playground has Wandy as the favortie but they have had very questionable odds in the past. Most notably was Sylvia vs Vera where they had big Tim as a 3-1 underdog which was absolutely ridiculous and i cleaned up nicely on that one. More recently was Efrain vs Phillipe where they had Efrain as more than a 3 to 1 dog also which was also way off in my opinion.
kansas
u willing to do a bet with me on the rampage fight?
No – we have all been on here for about 2 years, and you know I don’t ever bet …. seriously dude, I am cheering for Wand, he is my fav fighter you know that, #2 is Penn, I think both will win in the next two UFC events.. nuff said..
If anyone cares, im gonna be breaking down both these fights.. watch the fights (again) and follow along with me.
Axe vs Ram 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPfk83KbLs8
Rampage used his wrestling to control almost the entire fight punishing Wandy with GnP. Wandy had absolutely no answer for Rampages wrestling, although he tried to work his BJJ game, Rampage showed very good defense. If it was the UFC the round would have ended at the 5 min mark with Rampage easily taking round 1. Instead there was a questionable standup issued by the ref and Wandy got a yellow card for inactivity which was odd because you figure the card would be issued to the guy laying on top of you.. but anyways.. after the standup Wandy took advantage and proceeded to batter Rampage with punches and knees while Rampage was desperately shooting from VERY far away telegraphing his takedowns. Wandy definately benefitted from the Pride rules kicking Rampage in the head on the ground before just overwhelming him with a vicious barrage of unanswered knees to the head causing the ref to stop the fight.. good stoppage.
This was definately not a one sided fight where Wandy just destroyed Rampage, in fact Rampage was dominating the entire fight until they were stood back up which Rampage was very vocal about in the weeks and months after.. but wow! was it ever one hell of a fight! :)
Rampage got destroyed, he didn’t do squat on the ground when he was down there really, probably would get stood up by Bob Marley Dean in the UFC, (like Gonzaga Cro Cop) so yeah, I think Wands take down defense has improved in his new camp, and his wrestling game is “born” and he will win again with a stand up victory, I say round 2 KO for Wand.
Kansas, you know im a big Wandy fan too, but that wasnt a one sided fight, Rampage owned the ground Wandy owned the standup. Not like GSP vs Hughes 3 where GSP dominated in every aspect or like a Wandy vs Jardine, those were one sided. Rampage actually did do some damage on the ground in my opinion going to the head and body and cutting Wandy open without the use of elbows. I know Wandy has alot of scar tissue but cuts dont open unless someone in beating on your face bro.
i gotta agree with you, Rampage took Wand down and controlled the fight from the top right up until the stand up. under the 10 point must Ram would have taken first with ease. when the fight got back up Ram looked frustrated and went a bit wild, you cant just stand and throw with the Axe, thats his world. this is why im kind of wondering why all the “experts” are not even giving Ram a chance, if he comes in with a good game plan (takedown and control) and he can keep his head together he could walk away with the win.
no doubt RJ, considering the factors that have changed and the factors that stayed the same, this is pretty much a coin flip. Its clear what each guy has to do in this fight, Rampage has to take it to the ground period! if he gets a hair up his *** about standing with Wandy hes probably getting knocked out. Historically Wandy has struggled with strong wrestlers, hes got the BJJ advantage but hes not what you would call a gifted grappler.
Thats what makes this fight so exciting, if it was a clear mismatch it wouldnt be nearly as interesting of a fight. This is anyones fight, with a big purse on the line, #1 contender status, the go and bragging rights, emotions will be high and the bloods gonna be pumpin hot.
I cant hardly wait hehe.
yeah one factor that could play a role in this one is Rampage’s mental stability (or lack of) we all seen Rams recent melt down and that combined with the fact that Wand has KOed him twice already might have Jackson in a bad place come fight day. in a sport where you can win or lose in your head before you ever get in the cage you need to have your sh*t together mentally or your going to wake up with people standing over you asking if your ok.
Gotta agree with you BV…. you have good points, the fight is a coin toss, I am going with Wand – got to and I am hoping against hope that having worked with Coutures camp has improved his takedown defence and ground management, time has passed, its been almost two years since Pride 33 and I think that Wand is becoming more rounded as well, but Rampage is also on a whole new level, if this goes to the ground, I am concerned for Wand, if Wand keeps it standing, Rampage is toast.. and on the line is Wands sole chance to get a title shot and possibly do what nobody lately has thought possible, hold the UFC LHW title, OMG after 5 years of holding the Pride belt, that would really be the culmination of his career… I am so anxious, I was getting my mens group together at church today, we are having a guys night at my worship leaders house, big screen, bbq, whole nine yards!!! AHHH! Best card of the YEAR!!!!
haha im with Wandy too man! all the way no matter who hes fighting. You make a good point about Couture, look at how that helped Forrest in his fight with Rampage, the difference is Wandy wont dance around throwing jabs on the feet hes gonna be stalking and punishing Rampage.
The mental aspect RJ talked about is also a big factor man, some people say its 80% mental, i think it probably like 50/50 considering theres so many things classisfied as mental and so many physical.
In the mental theres willpower, confidence, tenacity, gameplan, knowledge of tecniques, focus, timing, reading your opponent, fakes, unexpected attacks, etc.. Its a huge part of the game man and Wandy has the edge in almost every one of those.
In the physical you got raw power, endurance, flexibility, physical toughness and muscle memory for tecniques. With the exception of raw power which goes to Rampage, i think the rest are pretty much even.
Its on like donkey kong lol
Amen!
Doc my post didnt make it again lol… is it just me? or does this happen to anyone else?
its just you man, and I have no idea why. Anytime you make a post that has a link in it, it goes into the moderation queue and I have to manually approve it. You are the only one though. Posting comments with links works fine for everyone else.
I’ll have to dig in and do some research to why it it keeps happening.
ahhh ok thanks for the feedback, atleast now i know its the links that causing the problems. Ok, im gonna be making another post about Axe vs Ram 2 with a link and my breakdown, can you approve those 2 back to back so they show up together? oh and after that i saw an awesome hype video i wanted to post up for the guys too. thanks again doc.
yeah, I’ll keep an eye out for them
I don’t see Wandi winning here at all. First of all,it’s a totally different environment (cage vs. ring). I don’t see Wandi cornering Rampage into the cage and unleashing his muy thai assualt. Second, I’ll be very controversial here and say that I believe Wandi, like many others, may of had some illegal substances in his system back in the old Pride days…which made him so explosive, tireless, violent.
I agree that Wand “MIGHT” have used those substances and it made him more violent and tireless, BUT he is a good finisher regardless, and I don’t think he used them in the IVC so that makes the point that Wand could very well come in tough angry and ready to wage war, he didn’t fare too shabby against Jardine – I really think the losses back to back to back are what deflated his violent confidence, perhaps we will see some of the more violent tireless Wand next Saturday.. dunno
I do get tired of people making these accusations even if they might be true or not… I am not God and don’t know, but I know this, he was so YOUNG during those days in Pride, people forget he was riding a wave of confidence, he was from one of the best camps in MMA EVER and he was violent, heck when I was 21 I was a violent fighter myself, I liked to fight fast, hard and I didn’t wind in the heat of the moment because my adrenaline was pumping and you dont think about cardio or pain when you are determined, confident, and young. Wand was 26 in the first fight 28 in the second one…. give him a freaking break, he held a 205 title longer than any fighter in MMA History ..
I have to disagree on the substance abuse issue. Im not saying it didnt happen because i dont know one way or another, but you think it would have just been Wandy juicing and everyone else was clean so he had the advantage? no way, if juicing was rampant in Pride then Rampage was probably using too so if theyre both roided out its an even playing field in my book.
Look at Wandy before Pride, after Pride, in training seminars.. is it all roids? we know for sure hes been clean in every UFC fight so far and he may have lost a step but that could be due to age (dont mention randy) injuries and ofcourse change of venue which we have seen affects everyone including veteran fighters.
Hes not as explosive, tireless or violent?? ask Keith Jardine about that man! lol. His first fight back in the octagon was against Chuck Liddell man and after a long layoff right back in vs Chuck. Chucks was used to fighting in the UFC, over cutting weight etc.. you see the size difference between Chuck and Wandy? Moving to a new country, new food, climate, etc.. everything was working against Wandy in that fight and in my opinion he came through like a CHAMP. That was all heart right there man thats something roids can never give you.
The guys all heart man, hes a legitimate modern day warrior fighting HW guys like Fujita, Crocop, Hunt and still holding his own. You cant dismiss a lifetime of training and achievement for some questionable allegations..
Yes… thanks BV you make excellent points and they need to be magnified.. HEY DOC how about letting BV get on and publish a breakdown of this fight, he’s as passionate a fan of both fighters as any of us and pretty good? I still want to see yours of course. I am kind of curious Doc who you are picking in this one, why, and how.. ;)
hehe i been breaking it down for a while now, it be tough to put all that info into 1 paragraph that Doc uses for each fight. Alot can be left out and it can be simplified as a coin flip with each guy posessing well rounded skills in differenct areas. On the feet Rampage has the more technical boxing and Wandy has the amazing muai thai skill, both have the KO power. On the ground Rampage has the wrestling and Wandy has the BJJ. Wandys muai thai trumps Rampages wrestling and Rampages wrestling trumps Wandys BJJ.
Its gonna be a BARN BURNER hehehe, should be the main event.. dam the titles…
you notice nobody has said anything about Forrest and Rashad or Nog vs Mir? lol theyre good fights but both of them put together pale in comparison to AXE VS RAM!
AXE VS RAM HYPE VIDEO…best one ive seen so far
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHB-jg3io48
GREAT VIDEO BV… long but the BEST YET
Update on this story Doc, he woke up from the coma! wow, nice to hear some good news for a change.
nice, and yeah its cool that MMA fans get some good news once in a blue moon. it seems like even when we do have some upbeat things to talk about the crap is coming shortly behind. heres hoping for Ribeiro and his family the very speedy recovery starts right now.
