Japanese lightweight Shinya Aoki made quick work of Eddie Alvarez at last nights FEG – K-1 Dynamite!! 2008 show to become the first WAMMA lightweight champion.

Alvarez was able to avoid the early takedown by Aoki and after a referee restart, Aoki was able to get Alvarez’s back and bring the action to the mat. Alvarez attempted to escape from the ground, but Aoki was able to secure a heel hook and end the fight in just over 90 seconds.

In other MMA action on the fight card, Semmy Schilt defeated Siala “Mighty Mo” Miliga via submission, Mirko Filipovic defeated Hong Man Choi via TKO, Melvin Manhoef defeated Mark Hunt via KO in only 18 seconds of the first round, and Kiyhoski Tamura defeated Kazushi Sakuraba via decision.

In K-1 action, Alistair Overeem scored a huge, very impressive KO victory over K-1 “bad boy” Badr Hari in the first round.

** UPDATE **

Here is a clip of Overeem’s nice KO of Badr Hari

  3. Amir says:

    Your the man Doc,

talk about head trauma for Badr Hari…Overeem dropped him like a sac of potatoes. When is Overeem gonna make the leap into the UFC?

    • Dr J says:

Thats a good question. Overeem would make an excellent addition to the UFC heavyweight division. I’d love to see him in there but I’m not sure if he’s interested. I think he likes fighting all over the place and doing K-1 and kickboxing matches in Holland as well as fighting MMA so I doubt he’d want to give that up to fight in the UFC.

see that is one of those things that really sucks, the UFC runs a hell of a show (the best in my opinion) and they give us more fights more often then anyone else…. BUT a lot of really good fighters dont like the way they do things so we will probably never see them fight there. i wish they could just forget owning everyone and everything and start doing 1 or 2 fight contracts sometimes, just showcase some good fighters putting on good fights sometimes and dont worry so damn much about who is going to be making off that fighter tomorrow.

Alvarez wasn’t getting up … shoulda tapped sooner. Heel hooks are dangerous. Man, that was hilarious when Aoki Shinya was chasing Eddie A. in the butt scoot position, and the crown loved it.

I can’t believe the two big guys, Schilt & Choi both lost. Cor-Cop vs. Choi musta been good.

What a shame to see continuing losses ffrom a legend like Sakuraba. He’s definately one of my favorite fighters of all time. Alistair Overeem & Manhoff & Hunt are all old-timers.

    • R.J. St.Croix says:

Aoki is amazing man, i dont think the guy even throws punches EVER but if he gets his hands on you, your moments away from having to tap. i almost dont even like watching Saku fight any more, its almost painful to see a legend get beat up over and over. im not sure i would call Overeem, Hunt, and Manhoef oldtimers, Hunt is 34, Manhoef is 32, and Overeem is only 28 they have all been around for a while but i wouldnt say any of there times have come and passed just yet.

I made a post earlier and it had a link in it so… it hasnt appeared yet, so i wont talk about Saku again in this post :)

For Schilt i wouldnt say hes an old timer either man, he just came off a 13 fight win streak in K1 as the HW champ not fighting cans either, guys like Aerts, Lebanner, Hoost. His striking is obviously dangerous in MMA too and as we saw he knows a little BJJ, though its very old school, closed guard and mostly defensive. That costed him a bit in this fight, he took a little beating on the ground before his opponent got sloopy/tired and fell right into the triangle.

I wish we could see Semmy in the UFC again man but again they would probably want him to quit kickboxing LOL how ridiculous is that.

Ya i missed this event, got confused on the 31st after midnight ****.. i was looking forward to JZ vs Hansen man, but Hansen had to pull out with a broken hand.

Great job by Aoki, nobody comes near the level of flexibility he has man, maybe BJ would come the closest, that would be an interesting BJJ match, but not MMA cuz BJ would knock him out within the first min of the fight hehe. BAKA SURVIVOR! :)

Saku vs Tamura, of course not a very exciting match, but it had its moments, takes some of the fun away knowing that its going to the decision though, like on some close subs. I personally enjoyed it, Saku wanted it to be a no time limit bout but those days are long gone, they dont have that much time to burn on one fight man. Some of the leg kicks Saku absorbed were painful just to watch man, knowing his injuries, overall i think he did a good job in that fight (on the ground) but Tamura beat him up in the striking.

most of them were good fights, if you guys wanna check em out, theyre at http://mixedmartialartvideos.com check the right side of the page for recent posts.

  6. bvrasp says:

Did you see the Bob Sapp fight? LOL Bob Sapp vs Japanese anime character Kinniku Mantaro (played by Akihito Tanaka).

This was hands down the most ridiculous fight ever, i swear i felt like i was watching WWF or something. If i didnt know bob, and didnt know how little punishment he could absorb, and didnt know how slow his punches are……… i would swear this fight was fake lol.

  7. bvrasp says:

Doc, just noticed something, it says

“Siala “Mighty Mo” Miliga defeated Semmy Schilt via submission”

Its the other way around, Semmy WON by submission, triangle in the 1st round..

  8. bvrasp says:

Another UFC fighter having a rough Holiday season, on the bright side, he didnt get murdered but Josh Neer got pinched for DUI, Hit and Run and Evadine police. Thanks god this didnt happen in Canada, because here he would be screwed man. Thay dont play around with drinking an driving, hopefully this will all blow over and it wont affect Neer too much because im a big Neer fan and hope he does well against Mac Danzig in his next fight.
