Takanori Gomi, who has generally been considered one of the top lightweight fighters for the past several years, was defeated by Satoru Kitaoka at Sengoku: Seventh Battle yesterday in Japan.
Kitaoko was able to take “The Fireball Kid” down to the mat early in the opening round and was able to secure an achilles lock submission forcing Gomi to tap out just over 1:40 into the match. With the victory, Kitaoka became the first Sengoku lightweight champion.
Gomi has now lost his last two fights, and if you count the No-Contest match against Nick Diaz as a loss, Gomi has lost 3 of his last 5 matches.

It was a pretty good night of fights, probably not worth staying up lol, but there were some decent fights. Misaki vs Santiago wasnt action packed bell to bell, but it was a good back and forth on the feet and on the ground. Alot of upsets that night, but some of the favorites looked great, like Mo Lawal.
Oddest thing was Satoshi Ishii walking into the ring with a UFC shirt on lol, there was nobody to translate but id really like to know what he said, cuz thats almost like a slap in the face of the japanese fans.
If you check out the sherdog play-by-play post, they do a translation of what Ishii was saying
the next ufc fight is on ppv?
