In a bit of news that will make myself and all my Canadian readers happy, it appears that David Loiseau will make his return to the UFC when he fights Ed Herman at UFC 97 this April.
Loiseau is the current Xtreme MMA middleweight champion and has enjoyed some mixed success since his departure from the UFC in 2006. Loiseau suffered his third straight loss against Joey Villasenor at EliteXC: Destiny in February of 2007, but has since won four of his next five fights including the XMMA belt against Solomon Hutcherson at XMMA 5: It’s Crow Time this past September.
Loiseau made his name in the UFC with his vicious elbow barrages and his spinning-back-kick/flying-knee combo KO of Charles McCarthy at UFC 53. Loiseau took then UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin a full five-rounds in a title-shot decision loss and then lost an uninspiring follow-up fight to Mike Swick at UFC 63. Following that fight, the UFC cancelled Loiseau’s contract. Loiseau claimed he would be UFC champion one day; looks like he is going to get another shot at backing up his promise.
The fight will also be a do-or-die matchup for a struggling Ed Herman who has run into another two-fight UFC losing streak. Herman began his UFC career with two straight losses but managed to follow up with three straight victories including a submission of Scott Smith and a KO victory against Joe Doerksen. Herman’s win streak hit a speed bump as he dropped his next two fights against Demian Maia and Alan Belcher.
UFC 97 is currently scheduled for April 18, 2009 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The rumored headline fight is a middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Thales Leites.

Hey Dr. J,
I googled MMAHQ for some reason and this site popped up that shows all of the statistics and demographics and whatnot for this site. I thought it might be of interest

Thanks Lam
I actually integrate with Quantcast already. That’s how they get the detailed demographic info for the site.
Thanks for the heads up though
To be honest, im surprised they brought loiseau back.. pleasantly surprised, but still i never thought we would see our boy back in the big show.
The UFC isnt very forgiving these days though, hes got a tough challenge ahead of him in Ed Herman. People dont like him or feel hes overrated but make no mistake, he can be a dangerous opponent for Loiseau. Especially considering the fact that Hermans on the bubble now, if he loses this fight he could be out of the UFC. Hes not looking for a highlight reel, he needs a W plain and simple and he might grind out the Crow to a decision.
Hopefully Loiseau will be in the best shape of his life for this fight, its a huge opportunity that usually only comes once. Hes got a second chance, i hope tears it up in the gym and knocks out Herman in the 1st.
